Chapter 1 Don"t Judge A thing Until You Know What"s Inside it.

"Everyone has lost something they can"t live without. Sometimes to find it again you have to be willing to do anything- even look fear right in the eye. Just make sure you don"t blink."

After all the events that had gone on in the past few days Hiccup decided to take a break from Dragon training and anything else that would deem too chaotic to handle. She had almost lost Toothless just seeing what Dagur had done to him was horrific and chilling enough. Subconsciously she looked over from her desk near her bed where toothless had decided to hang himself from above on one of the rafters sound asleep, she breathed a sigh of relief.

'It's okay, he's here he's safe we are safe.' She told her self calmly Even though her body had relaxed some the thoughts continued to plague her mind screaming for her undivided attention.

Balling up her fists in frustration she tossed the paper filled with notes she'd been working on to the ground. Grabbing her head as her concentration finally came back to life. Slowly getting up from her desk she went over to the crumpled up paper and began to smooth it out as she brought out the book of dragons to begin transferring her raft draft of notes into its permanent files.

Hiccup Knew she was in trouble it was just a feeling she had honed over time. How much trouble she would actually end up in had yet to make itself clear until the very moment she opened the book of dragons and a purple burst of light came swirling out around her in a vicious purple tornado sucking her into its depths. She felt herself moving through the air at speeds unknown to her before the purple wind slowed down and she felt her entire body jolt with the force.

Landing on the grass with a heavy thud tangled on the ground. She gasped in discomfort and began to try and move her arms only to discover she no longer had them as instead of a hand coming into her line of vision a black paw came forth.

Shrieking in both shock and panic she tried to back up only for her to trip on something else that wasn't hers before, to begin with turning... Was that a tail? Panicking Hiccup backed up until she hit the dead end of a grove of trees. A small splash caught her attention looking down in the she noticed water pooling at her paws spinning around she looked down at the puddle of water that nestled in the stream below her. Staring in complete shock at the reflection staring back at her because instead of her human face staring back at her there in it's place stood a night furies.

She tilted her head the reflection doing the same. inspecting the reflection She found she was much smaller then Toothless deducing it was probably due to the fact she herself was still an adolescent her features were a lot softer than his as well. When she shifted a bit that"s when she felt her wings on her back as they fluttered open they were slightly larger then her entire form but what struck her the most were her eyes they were a beautiful electrifying blue. So many thoughts began to fly through her head. "How was this possible? for one. However one quickly and resolutely took over the rest. "Where am I?" The thought echoed in her head.

That's the thought that gets her into motion her father and Toothless were probably worried sick. She just needed to find them. Her father could help figure this out if not him then definitely Gothi had to know something it had to do with the book of Dragons that she was sure of.

Taking in her surroundings she noticed it had to be a tropical island of some kind. The temperature in the air was far too hot for Berk and trees were of shapes she had never seen before though they mirrored what Trader Johann had talked about in the retelling of his many many travels.

Her paws padded through the thick trees Hiccup knew she would need a clear space for what she was about to do.

Finally coming upon a clearing she got into position one she witnessed Toothless make many times. Pausing when another realization came upon her as she opened her wings she moved her tail ever so slightly and there staring back at her where she guessed her prosthetic leg would be stood a prosthetic tail wing instead like the one she had made for Toothless on snoggletog.

Turning back around and glancing at the sky she backed up before letting her wings spread out propelling herself forward and shooting up into the air. The feeling was much different then when she was on Toothless anticipation eating at her as she flapped her wings on instinct. The wind getting both heavier and lighter as the clouds encircled her form. The chill of the wind and the breathtaking view below making her heart soar and flutter in her chest. Diving down she free fell before spreading her wings and moving her tail in a motion she knew by heart having practiced this maneuver with Toothless many times.

The feeling of she had they practiced this came back tenfold except this time it somehow felt more exhilarating doing it herself she felt so...Free. With that feeling came a pang in her heart remembering how long Toothless had spent not being able to fly. This added a whole new layer of guilt here she was enjoying herself when Toothless was stuck at home waiting for her he couldn't fly without her she had to get back to him he was depending on her.

After one final spin Hiccup evened herself up and took to the sky now ready for her journey home. Thoughts of Toothless and her father plaguing her mind as the sun began to go down her flight now spanning the distance of the shoreline of the island as it became smaller before disappearing completely.

Hiccup searched for Berk and while she searched she learned. Not only did Berks location seem nonexistant with how long and hard she searched but the people on all the other seven large Islands she scouted were odd to say the least and so were the many odd machines they used. She began to wonder if the book took her to a different world entirely. The machines they had were not only more advanced then anything she'd ever seen but dangerous too.

She watched as one machine leveled forests at a rate a Timberjack would have been envious of and more then once in the sky she was almost run over on a flying metal machine the use for she was still unsure about.

Hiccups Search had become weeks then months and now almost a year. During that time her heart felt as if it had shattered into tiny pieces as desperation clawed at her soul whenever Toothlesses face appeared in her mind. Now any time when she tried to remember her father, Gobber and any of her friends they had started to fade it felt like the harder she tried to remember each detail of their faces the more distorted they became only their voices remained.

Living in the wild for a year had changed me more then i could imagine throughout my search for Berk i had made sure to keep my existence from humans a secret. Not only did i learn i knew nothing about where i was or where exactly the book had taken me but also if these humans even knew about dragons and if they did i really didn't want to risk if they were friendly or not. I learned how to find the perfect territories with the best resources available to me which meant ones near a steady supply of fish I learned how to defend that territory whether it meant shooting blasts at seagulls of which helped my aim improve greatly. or fighting off larger predators from taking my territory as their own. I learned how to use my wings to shield myself from specific attacks the strength of their durability was incredible.

After having searched all Seven Islands and finding no sight of Berk I came to the disheartening conclusion that wherever the book had taken me Berk no longer resides in the place i was now in. The gravity of it was a constricting feeling like poison running all throughout my body at this conclusion. The devastating whole that filled my entire being at the realization I may never ever see my family again and that feeling free fell whenever Toothless face came into my mind and heart. "Oh how I missed him." it was like a piece of my soul cracked he was my everything i needed to get back I had too. That hopelessness never left me though hanging on wherever i went next. "What else could i do? Where else could i look?

I had also began to forget what it was like to be human my human instincts and behavior leaving me and being replaced with a Dragons.

One calling that was getting stronger by the day was the one for a family of which called to me any time I saw parents taking care of baby birds in the nests. Or mother Deer's calling for her fawn. And big cats bringing in the kill for their young. I wanted that with every fiber of my being calling out for it. i wanted something to nurture a hatchling of my own I had that with Toothless in a way and that made me miss him even more maybe if he were here these instincts would not be as strong as they were now.

The night sung to me as I watched the birds whirling displays in the air,the nights peace interrupted by a rustle in the near by bushes caught my attention.

Crouching low i stalked over wings held back body on the defensive. To my surprise i heard a wirring noise before a sharp pain hit my neck i felt a net enclosing me before i hit the ground the dart in my neck causing my head to spin before everything goes black.

"My, My have you been a pain in my neck to track down but so glad to finally have you safely in our facility my dear." A voiced cooed. The sound sending chills down my spine.

I Tried to move my legs only to feel them being restricted by something cold and metal. Alarmed my eyes shot open i was hanging upside down struggling my wings were pinned with the metal bars around my body keeping it them caged and trapped together from where i was hanging by a pole. Glancing around at my surroundings i noticed i was in some kind of dark cell like room stone covering all the walls a weird looking chair had its back to me that's where i assumed the voice had come from. Red hair was all i was able to see as i growled lowly.

The chair turned toward me i took in the man before me he was maybe in his late thirties with red hair and glasses. He wore his hair in a ponytail and had on an obnoxiously white vest. Without a second thought i shot a plasma blast only for him to touch a button and a shield shot out deflecting the blasts. His eyes looked on in wonder gaze sliding over to me. "Incredible.' He breathed out.

He approached me from the side fiddling with something causing the button he pressed to follow him standing right before me he reached out almost as if to touch me before seeming to get a grasp on himself and pulling away.

He seemed to now hold a business like air about himself as he spoke. "It"s a pleasure to meet you Hiccup I"m Dr Desmond."

I looked at him surprised a doctor? And how could he possibly Know who i was?

As if reading my mind he began to speak." Along while ago I found an ancient Norse book detailing dragons and to my shock how to train them." He said as he stepped back a bit. "I put it off as rubbish that is until a certain group caught the public eye decided to give it another look."

"Ancient?" I thought. "Wait does that mean..."

"Turns out when you have friends in high places like i do you can do a little more then see into the past. " He said with a note of arrogance. "I wanted to study one of these dragons could you imagine the scientific discoveries and accomplishments we could make with this."

"Of coarse I asked specifically for a friend of mine to take and find both the Author of the book and a dragon."He sighed in annoyance." But after a year and only the book being found along with your footprints, I should have guessed something went wrong with their powers that caused this."He rolled his eyes. "This is what you get for trusting amateurs."

"I put two and two together after confronting them about it and for them to show me this." He moved over to where he took out a familiar book and pulled out a bunch of papers before finding the one he needed and showing it to me. It was one i had drawn of Toothless and I both are prosthetic's visible. He pointed to my old prosthetic and the viking rune on the side then pointed above me following his gaze i noticed the same rune on my tail prosthetic.

He then gave me a bone chilling smile. "You'll do even better though Dragon Tamer." laughing at his own joke i watched as he pulled a panel on something releasing a scream as electicity washed over me.

Cadmus 2010 Robin

The group made their way toward the main control room voices heated as Kid Flash they looked over the young Clone of Superman just laying motionless. Robin looking over at him with the others. After a moment of debate they released him not before Robin saw another unit on the computer that had a release order. He knew he shouldn't have done what he did next but something was pulling at him to do it so he that button as well.

The next moments were absolute Chaos Superboy attacked and in what felt like seconds had taken out the entire team darkness took over as he hit the ground.

Waking up he found himself next to his friends in pods all in the same position as him. He looked over noticing Superman's clone.

"Stop Staring It's freaking me out." Kid flash burst out.

Feeling annoyed with his friend and weary at the hard face staring back at them. ""Hey maybe don't piss off the guy who can fry us with a look." He advised him.

What began next was a failed attempt to at least get the clone to see sense. When it finally looked like the boy's resolve was waning they were interrupted by the good quickly sent Genomorphs to subdue Superboy's mind and sent him on his way. He continued on now completely ignoring their plea's though Dick had hoped they'd at least planted enough seeds in his mind.

Trying something to distract the Dr from reaching over to clone them he blurted out. "What's project Nightlight?"

Dr Desmond froze in his track before a fury took over his features as spun around. "You didn't." He growled eyes wild.

I went to reply only for the alarms to sound giving Dr Desmond all the answers he needed. They watched as the Doctor went over to the computer typing something into computer the system before sending the a message out for security to "Secure her." So he'd been right it had been something important but what? And who was she? Glancing toward his friends they similar thoughts seemed to be running through their heads. One question loomed in the air around them. Why had he not sent the Genomorphs like with Superboy.

I had very little time to think on this before Desmond promptly started the cloning process. The events sped up when Superboy proved to have a mind of his own. As he appeared and saved them in the nick of time much like his counterpart.

The fight continued as they managed to get through to the Elevator they made it to a door leading to their possible exit only for the Genomorphs to catch up with them. again.

They all began to feel sleepy just when they were about to lose consciousness a loud call fills the air a sound none of them could distinguish ever hearing before. Soon the sound of soft gentle but rapid wing beats filled the air. The dizziness left them as if something had snatched it away and deflected it.

A flash of black loomed over their heads. Dick watched in awe as did his teammates as a black scaled bat like creature glided over them in the air shrieking as it went. "She" a voice in his head informed him. "This must be the She Desmond was so worried about."He thought. The one he'd taken the liberty of releasing.

"Project Nightlight."He breathed out to his companions.

"What the heck was that some kind of mutated bat."Kid Flash exclaimed in stunned disbelief only for his jaw to drop with the others as the creature breathed out a purple ball from it's mouth that blasted the door open.

"I don't think a mutated bat could do that." I said numbly.

That's when Superboy came back into view with Desmond who had an elixir in his hands his eyes weren't on Superboy though they were searching for something else. That's when the creature came barreling toward Desmond in a fury.

The Desmond ducked as she came careening toward him. He drank in the elixir laughing as he called out. "Ah my Dear finally you have arrived?" He said joyously before darkly adding. " Don't worry we will have this all sorted soon i won't lose you.'

This only seemed to anger her as she sent a blast toward his face of which he dodged before turning into a monster. He was suddenly knocked off his feet and thrown into the air they all watched as the creature took her paws with Desmond wrapped in them and somersaulted in the air quickly hurling him at a wall knocking him through. This did little to sway him though as he came barrelling back the proving elixir must have given him some pretty good durability.

Superboy joined the fight grabbing Desmond and punching him in a blaze of heated aggression. The creature stayed back a bit assessing the situation.

That's when I got a good look at her. She was black with spikes along her sides ear fllaps and a long tail that balanced her in the air. That's something else caught my eye her tail.

In place of what I assumed used to be a fin was flap of leather fabric. "Had Cadmus done something to it." The thought making me sick. I knew this creature was clearly dangerous but so far none of that danger had been directed at any of us. Whatever she was she was clearly a victim of the facility too.

Superboy was thrown into a pillar and that's when everything went down around them. Aqualad and Kid Flash hung on to him as he shot his grappling gun up not paying attention with what it had connected to he lowered them down until they reached ground level where he safely deposited them before going back up to get Superboy who was hanging on to a thread and who Desmond was about to pounce on.

The second he was about to reach him he heard a snap that made his bones chill and heart climb into his throat as he began to free fall his line having prematurely snapped.

Just when he felt like I was doomed to the same fate as my parents I landed on something soft before feeling myself being gradually lifted into the air again. For a moment he thought it was Superboy only to open his eyes he hadn't realized he had closed and looked around him on either side of him large black wings were spread out it didn't take a genius to figure out who his rescuer was.

I turned over on soft scales my hands running over them jumping a bit when I felt a gentle rumbling from the creature that had caught me at the touch of my hand on her scales.

I turned over barely catching a glimpse of her as she gently landed in front of a gaping Kid Flash and Aqualad. That's when she turned her head gaze locking on to me. I continued to stare at her as she stared at back at me with those electric blue eyes staring into the very depths of my soul I couldn't look away. We stood there staring at each other she even leaned a bit toward me only to seem to catch herself before Huffing in irritation and i was shaken off of her falling to the ground sharply.

I distinctly could hear my best friend snort in amusement. though I could tell both of my companions were equally too shocked and honestly terrified to make any comments or moves toward her.

"Superboy." He found himself saying looking up toward the wreckage scanning for any sign of him.

He had completely forgot about the clone to preoccupied with his current circumstance to remember Superboy had also been in trouble.

Hearing a rustling sound he turned back toward his rescuer.

As if on Cue the she drew one of her wings up. There struggling wrapped in her front legs was Superboy an angry scowl on his face as he kept trying to rip himself out. Superboy was likely too spent from the previous fight with Desmond as his struggles were getting him nowhere. Making a sort of humming purr she unwrapped her legs abruptly. An amused glint in her eye as Superboy flopped onto the ground.

Her head tilted to the side sensing something near before her gaze snapped up and with one low growl she shot into the air.

"Uh thanks?" Kid flash said awkwardly with a bewildered look toward her. waving his hand in the air.

They all watched as she glided through the air up to the top finally noticing Desmond"s advance. She switched positions in the air at lightning speed and twisted in the air like a tornado hurling right into him sending him to the ground they all dodged out of the way as the monster doctor crashed. Creating a crater bellow him multiple cracks began to make there way around them as they scrambled up and away from crash sight.

Watching as a giant crack was formed into the earth below them as they safely stood on the outskirts. That's when they heard rumbling and everything began to crumbl,e debris began to fall on them. I braced for myself for impact as Aqualad and Superboy began to shield us only for a familiar black figure to once again throw itself toward us in the sky blocking each piece of rubble as it came near before finally the figure stood still fully shielding me with her wings.

Once everything had cleared I looked up into electrifying blue eyes searching my face i felt glued to the spot everything in me lost in those eyes that held such concern and sadness. A sadness recognized instantly i saw it in my own eyes every time i looked in the mirror it was the look of deep agonizing loss. I felt a pull in my soul as i stared into her eyes a connection brewing within.

My fingers twitched at my sides wanting to reach out my hand restraining myself i continued to the stare feeling for once in my life not so agonizingly alone like i had found a soul just as lost as my own. i didn't want to lose this feeling it was like i was being seen truly seen for the first time. Bruce could relate sure but he could was still filled with his own darkness that had never healed he couldn't fully connect in the way i had needed the way i had longed for.

She stared at me for one more second before scanning over everyone else before once again looking to the sky only this time with such wonder and longing. I looked up too there in all it's glory stood the full moon. Kid flash must have caught sight of it too as i heard him call out. "See the moon."

Right at that moment she took to the air flying faster then we had yet to see only for me to realize at the last second something was off her prosthetic tailfin. it must have been damaged when she was taking out Desmond one final time as all that was left were ripped remains. My voice caught in my throat making a strangled sound as i watched her focused gaze turn to confusion then horror as she began to drop out of the sky screeching.

We all watched in silent horror as she fell down into the crack of the crater below our feet. Racing to the edge everyone released a breath of relief when her paws snagged one of the rocks and she clung to it safely.

Only for the most haunting shrieks to fill our ears one's i imagined a bird would make if its wings had been cut off.

Kid Flash backed up a bit at the sound face looking disturbed as he shook his head almost like he was trying to cancel out in his head the cries she was making. Aqualad looked stoic as ever but he could still make out a concerned glint in his eye. Superboy however was only focused on the moon.

Looking up too I saw what looked like a black dot as it seemed to be getting closer. Elbowing Kid flash he looked up as well before pointing. "And Superman." He boasted."Do we keep our promises or what?"

The joyous atmosphere was cut off when more hero's started arriving and soon they were surrounded by the whole Justice League.

They were all silent not by choice but because the Leagues focus was now on the shrieks of the creature below disturbed looks being exchanged among them. They all glanced down enough too get a good look at it each hero letting out their own looks of shock and confusion on what exactly it was. I looked down as well briefly once again catching her eyes. Her gaze caught mine the helplessness in it causing a twist in my stomach she looked at me with such grief and hopelessness it was enough to make my heart sink. Our eye contact continued her eyes almost pleading with me before she shrieked again and looked toward the sky.

I watched as Hawkwoman walked toward Batman she seemed to be the most effected by the shrieking. Hawman not doing much better as his eyes had yet to leave the shrieking creature bellow.

"We aren't just going to leave it here." She spoke voice a bit strained. "Right?" She asked posing her question to Batman.

I couldn't stop the words before they left my mouth. "Her." i said feeling all eyes now on me. "Desmond refers to her in his files as project Nightlight." I said directing the last part at my mentor his eyes narrowing at the last part of the name.

"She did save us."Aqualad spoke up almost causing me to jump. Having forgot his close proximity "Twice." Kid Flash put out.

Aqualad rolled his eyes before reiterating. "Yes Twice."

Batman's eyes were still narrowed but at the look Hawkwoman was giving him along with a very pointed one from Diana that would have made me laugh in any other situation caused him to turn back around figure facing the still shrieking creature below. "No we won't leave her." His gruff voiced barked out before he took out a small dart gun from his utility belt and pressed another botton his wrist watch which made a net fall out from his gloves. "Hawkwoman be prepared to catch."

I could only watch in pity as he shot the dart at her causing to fall silent and tumble downward Hawkwoman catching her at the last second with a net which encircled her entire body.

"Take her back to base."He ordered her next. I continued to watch Hawkwoman carry her deadly still form until it was out of sight completely missing the exchange between Superboy and Superman until i felt a sharp elbow stab. Looking i saw Kid flash glancing at me curiously before nodding his head i saw our mentors staring at us. Batman began to speak sending me a look i knew all too well. "Cadmus will be investigated all fifty two levels let's make one thing clear-

"You should have called." Flash put in upset.

"End results aside we are not happy you hacked Justice League systems endangered lives."Batman continued his speech ending it with. "And it will not be happening again."

'I am Sorry but will." Aqualad spoke up looking toward them determination.

"Aqualad stand down."Aquaman ordered looking at his protege sternly.

"Apologizes my king but no."He declared still staring hard into his mentors face. "We did good work here tonight the work you trained us to do."

He continued to speak. " Together on our own We forged something powerful here tonight something important. "

"If this is about your treatment at the hall." Flash spoke up. "The three of you-

"The four of us." Kid Flash corrected. "And it's not."

I spoke up next looking at Batman trying to focus on the task at hand and not the images of black creature with haunting blue eyes that filled my head.

"Batman We're ready to use what you taught us." i said staring hard into his unflinching lenses. "Or why teach us at all.?" i taked on.

Superboy moved forward next glaring hard at them. "Why let them tell us what to do at all." He said. "It's simple get on board or get out of the way."

They exchanged looks at this last remark. I watched listlessly as the League worked to clear out what was left. I finally noticed my mentor talking with Diana over to the side. I walked over to them Kid Flash and Aqualad having left with their mentors on accounts for not being needed for this. Superboy sat of to the side with a morose expression having been told they'd figure living arrangements out for him as soon as they were done here.

Finally not being able to handle the thoughts swirling in my head any longer i stalked forward toward Batman. He finally acknowlaged me as i asked. "What are you going to do with her?"

Clearing his throat he said. "We'll figure out what to do as soon as i comb over Cadmus files on her and get her checked out."He said. "Once she's cleared as any potential-"

"You're not going to hurt her right." I said interrupting him. Staring a hole into the lense of his mask. "She's been experimented enough on." I harshly reminded. knowing what a few of his tests would be and that he tended to be less then considerate about how he administers them.

"We need to understand everything we can about her we don't know if she could be-"Batman started only for me to cut him off again wincing at bit knowing he hated constant constant interruptions.

"She saved us." I exclaimed in her defense i knew he could be paranoid but couldn't he see she didn't try to hurt us? i know it was a bit of an irrational though at the circumstances surrounding us and that this was protocol put in place to ensure every ones safety but i couldn't help but feel the unfairness of it all. She had just escaped one cage be put back in another.

I scrambled for anything i could do to make the situation smoother.

"You won't be keeping her in a cell will you."I asked stepping even closer toward him."She at least deserves that much."

a voice interjected behind me. "He better not."I spun around seeing Hawkwoman wings spread out as she leveled a steely glare toward Batman arms crossed.

"For the time being she will be in a cell but once she's cleared as a non threat to the League or otherwise i will make other arrangements." He appeased at the look Hawkwoman sent him.

"I"ll make sure of that."Diana spoke up next to Batman sending him her own steely look.

"Hey not to interrupt whatever this is but what exactly are we going to do with you know who."Hal spoke up as he made his way toward us. head gesturing to Superboy.

"He can hear you." I told him smirking when his eyes widened the reminder of the superhearing.

I watched as Diana and Batman exchanged a look before they both turned toward Superboy and began to walk in his direction.

i looked over at Hawkwoman now that we were alone and implored "Think you can convince him she's not going a threat?"

She gave me a look. "Since when can anyone convince him they aren't a threat until he's made up his mind on it.?"She asked. Eyes twinkling. I shook my head a bit hand coming to my neck in embarrassment. Chuckling her hand touched my arm reassuringly.

"Don't worry though I'll be taking up the cause on this one."She said looking deep into my eyes. "No creature should be forced to stay locked up."

I nodded watching as a haunted look came into her eyes before she shook herself off and took off into the night sky. Feeling my shoulders sag relief that there was one person i could count on for this issue, well two if i knew how to read Diana at all.

I took a breath as everything became settled. Black Canary had taken Superboy somewhere and i was ordered by Batman to go home i knew a long lecture was coming but i didn't care my thoughts were on continued to linger on the eyes of that made me feel less alone then I'd ever felt before in a very long time.

A/N There"s going to be a few details in here that won"t make sense but it will all be explained in the next chapter.
