Dimentio had managed to keep the portal open long enough for all three of them to enter through. Dimentio assumed that this would be a good place, since he had been through every dimension and this one actually had demons in it. Everyone who could travel dimensions tended to stay away from this place.

The Oni started sniffing the air. "Weakened prey." He crouched down. "And it's not too far from here. I bet I could grab it before anyone else gets to it." He leaped, coming close to the impressive height of ten feet at least. He leaped off of the tree branch he had landed on.

Em faced Dimentio once the Oni had left. "Didi, tell me what's going on. You're not acting like yourself."

"Nothing's wrong, Em. I'm doing just fine."

"Stop lying to me. Is it because of what Olive said?"

Dimentio looked at the ground. "Yeah...you don't think I'm heartless, do you?"

"I know the real you isn't. But this...façade you're using? I don't like it. Nobody does."

"I-I don't want to be myself! The me I used to know made some horrible mistakes!"

"And you're saying this one hasn't?"

Dimentio paused. Em was right, Dimentio had made even worse mistakes since coming to the Mushroom Kingdom. Mind control, murder, possession. The only thing Dimentio had done in his home world was pushing his friends away.

The Oni returned. "I assumed you guys don't eat Oni flesh, so I just went ahead and took the whole thing." He rubbed the side of his head. "I remembered something while hunting down the Oni."

"Oh? Do tell," Em said.

"I remember an Oni with white, curly hair. The lady from before didn't want me anywhere near the child. But I couldn't help myself." He looked at his hands and smiled. "I was hungry."

"You killed the kid?!" Em gasped.

"What? I was hungry, not heartless! I attacked the lady instead. I seem to go into some sort of beast-like mode when I'm hungry for Oni." He poked the side of his head near his horns. "Shaking, drooling, aggression, etc." He folded his arms. "But I kind of like you two. Especially the jester boy." He pointed a thumb at Dimentio. "He's quiet, and was willing to teleport an Oni Eater to a different world just so I could get a bite. I have to admit, you're one step closer to getting your eye back, kid."

"Yeah...my eye."
