It's been twenty years since Paul Edgecomb finally wrote the story of John Coffey and life at Cold Mountain State Penitentiary, and Paul is still at Georgia Pines. He feels like he's finally taking his long-awaited walk down his own Green Mile.

Paul, as usual, can't sleep all that well, so he goes on down to the TV Room to watch some classic movies. While he's sitting in what has been dubbed "his chair," he dozes off as he does so often. He's completely relaxed and at peace as he starts to see some familiar faces.

Paul starts out having a dream that he's 40 again, only this time he's sitting in a familiar looking prison cell. As he's looking around, he sees a few old friends coming to his cell and unlocking it.

Looking confused, he calls out to the first familiar looking guard he sees. "Dean! You wanna tell me what's going on here?"

"Paul Edgecomb," Dean begins, "as an Officer of the Court and of the Kingdom of Heaven, I have a warrant for death by electrocution, such execution to be carried out at 12:01am on November 20th, 2012. Will you step forward?"

Paul steps out to see Harry Terwilliger and Bill Dodge. "Hold up there, Boss Edgecomb," Bill says as he's checking Paul's head. "Just as God intended," Bill says, clapping Paul on the shoulder.

Dean and Harry get on either side of Paul with Bill behind them as they lead him down the Green Mile. They pass through what was Paul's office, through the short door to the old storage room. When they get to the bottom step, Paul looks over and sees Brutal Howell standing next to the old electric chair.

Among the witnesses are his loving wife, Janice, his special friend at Georgia Pines, Elaine Connelly, Hal and Melinda Moores, Curtis Anderson, (surprisingly, but at the same time not too surprising) Eduard Delacroix with Mr. Jingles perched on his shoulder, and John Coffey with his seemingly never-ending stream of tears. The boys get Paul sitting in the chair and strapped in.

"Roll on one!" Brutal yells to Jack Van Hay. "Paul Edgecomb," Brutal begins, "you have been condemned to die in the electric chair, sentence passed by a jury of your peers and imposed by a Judge in good standing in this Kingdom. God save the souls of this Kingdom. Do you have anything to say before this sentence is carried out?"

Barely able to choke the words out, Paul says, "I've done some things I'm not particularly proud of. God, please forgive me and welcome me Home into Your grace."

Brutal brings the brine soaked sponge to the top of Paul's head after Harry puts the black hood over his face and straps the cap over the sponge.

"You'll be alright in a little while, Boss," comes the deep voice of John Coffey. "God the Father knows all the kindness you done."

"Paul Edgecomb, electricity shall now be passed through your body until you are dead, in accordance with His law." Brutal smiles a little and finishes with, "God WILL have mercy on your soul, my friend."

Brutal walks over to the chair and shakes Paul's hand, and Harry, Dean, and Bill all follow suit, Dean with tears in his eyes.

"You wipe your face before you turn around, Dean," Brutal says.

"Yes, sir," Dean replies, walking back to his spot.

A long time passes by without Brutal saying a word. Knowing what has to be said, even from under the black hood, Paul yells out to Van Hay, "Roll on two!"

Paul surges forward quickly as he feels himself slipping away from the edge of life.
