"A Lie Kept/ A Lie Revealed"

A Sprina Fanfiction

Portia, under the watchful eye of Spencer, went over to Trina and gave her a hug. Portia hugged her so tightly, as if she wanted to remember everything about her daughter's hug, because she knew that this would all fall apart soon-once Trina found out about her role in all of this. Trina was so happy to see her mother. Although they were still trying to get back where they were before the paternity shocker, Trina loved her mother and was glad that she was there. Trina let Portia know that Taggert told her that he was her biological father.

"How do you feel about that, Trina?" Portia asked.

"Honestly, despite spending time with and getting closer to Curtis, Dad was and is always going to be my dad. These results just support that a little more, now," Trina answered truthfully.

Portia just smiled and thought about how amazing her daughter was. However, Portia knew that she had set all of this in motion-all, being what led Trina to being in that hospital bed right now. Portia tried to push that out of her mind as she continued to visit with Trina. After a short while, Portia told Trina that she needed her rest, so she was going to go. Spencer quickly rose to hasten her departure-it had been hard for him to stomach their conversation, knowing what Portia had done.

"I love you, Trina. Please always know that,"Portia said.

"I love you, too, Mom," Trina replied.

After Portia left, one of the attending doctors came in to check on Trina's progress.

Spencer asked, "How is she?"

The doctor let them both know that Trina was progressing exactly as she should. He attributed the good progress to her youth and her physical condition.

"I knew that taking those yoga classes would pay off," Trina said.

"Make sure to rest as much as you can today and limit your visitors. You're going to need all your strength over the next few days because we're going to want you up and moving as much as you can, so that you'll be closer to going home. How does that sound?" the doctor asked.

"It sounds great," Trina replied.

"It sure does and I'll make sure that she gets the rest that she needs," Spencer chimed in. Trina looked over at him lovingly as he took charge.

As the doctor left, a nurse came in and said that she would help Trina with getting herself cleaned and changed, along with making sure that she ate.

"Oh, I can make sure that she eats,"Spencer said.

"I'm sure you can, but that's why I'm here," the nurse said. "I'll help her with everything. I'll be right back."

Trina noticed how tired her boyfriend looked. He had to be exhausted. He had been at her side the whole time. She had even noticed him rubbing his eyes and yawning when they were in there alone.

"Spencer, would you do something for me?" Trina asked.

"Of course, what do you need?"

"I need you to go home, shower, change, eat, and then get some rest. You've been great and I appreciate you for all that you've done. It sounds like the next few days are going to be a lot, and I'm going to need you at full strength. So, will you please go home?"

Spencer frowned at the idea of leaving her, but he wanted to make her happy, so he agreed. However, he said that he would be back later on to make sure that she was ok. He bent down to kiss her, as he prepared to leave.

"I love you," Trina said.

"I love you, more," Spencer replied.

It wasn't long after Spencer left and the nurse came in and helped her, that Trina fell fast asleep.

Meanwhile, Spencer did exactly as Trina had asked. Very rarely did he not do what she asked of him-he knew better. He was glad to shower, change, and eat. While on the way home, he had contacted the Social Services case worker about Ace. He was glad to hear that Ace had a good night and was doing well. He knew that Martin would work his legal magic to get Ace out of there. As soon as Spencer's head hit the pillow, he was out like a light. When he finally woke up, it was almost dark. He jumped up, called for a ride and made his way back to Trina's room, where he would again spend the night at her side.

TJ came in early the next morning. Spencer and Trina were eager to hear the instructions for the day.

"Trina, the goal for today is to get you up and moving, in order to hasten along your recovery," TJ instructed. "Just a walk or two, or three, around the floor. Spencer, make sure that she doesn't overdo it. It's not a race, she just needs to get used to moving again, so that she can get home as soon as possible."

"I will definitely make sure that she does not overexert herself, TJ," Spencer said as he nodded at Trina.

"Can I get started now? I'm so ready to do whatever I can to get out of here-no offense, TJ. But, I have so much that I need to get back to and enjoy," Trina said as she smiled at Spencer.

"You sure can. Just make sure to use the walker for support," TJ said.

"And remember, I'll be right there with you the whole time and you can use me for support, as well," Spencer told Trina.

"I'll always lean on you for support," Trina said lovingly, as she and Spencer exchanged loving looks and smiles.

TJ, feeling like an intruder at this point, cleared his throat to get the young couple back on track. It only worked after clearing it at least three times, with each time getting louder and louder. Spencer and Trina finally snapped out of their love trance and thanked TJ for the instructions.

"Ok, let's get you out of that bed and on the road to recovery and back to the only bed I want to see you in after this is over-our bed," Spencer said as he carefully helped Trina to her feet in front of the walker.

"That's all the incentive that I need. This bed is so lonely, so let's get this walking thing started," Trina replied.

The young couple headed out of the room and began their walk. Trina had both hands on the walker and took slow, careful steps, while Spencer walked beside her-staying close, just in case Trina might need a little more support.

"You're doing great, baby. Keep it up, but take your time," Spencer encouraged Trina.

All of a sudden, she stopped. Trina looked around to make sure that TJ was not around because she wanted to try something-something that she knew anyone on her medical team would probably advise against. Then, she turned and looked at Spencer.

"Spencer, I need to use your body," Trina said.

"And, I am so very ready for you to use it as much as you want-as soon as you are recovered and released," Spencer jokingly responded.

"Spencer, you idiot, I need to use your body to walk. I want to try walking arm-in-arm, without using this thing. I need to jumpstart this rehab," Trina laughed.

"Ok, but we're taking it slow," Spencer replied, getting back to a somewhat more serious tone.

With that, Spencer moved the walker off to the side and he and Trina continued her slow walk around the floor. Although it was trying, Trina made slow strides around the floor supported by a caring and patient Spencer. She felt so safe and loved as they walked. Despite the accident a few nights back, Trina felt that all was right with the world: She was walking and healing-being supported by the man she loved, and Esme was in jail. Trina was on top of the world, until she and Spencer rounded a corner and came face-to-face with someone who was all set to knock her off. There, in all of her unholy glory stood Esme.

"Esme, why...how are you here? You're supposed to be in jail!" Spencer demanded.

"I know that you had to make bail. How did you manage that? Did you all of a sudden get access to your trust fund or did the Invader set up a Go Fund Me account for your legal fees?" Trina snidely questioned.

"So many questions, you two," Esme said coyly.

"Well, first of all, I was given this new little accessory to wear, although I think it clashes with my outfit," Esme referred jokingly to the ankle monitor that she had been fitted with before being released.

"Ok, you've got an ankle monitor, but that doesn't explain what I'm sure was an exorbitant bail set for you," Trina responded icily. "So, I'm going to ask you again, who got you out on bail?"

Esme looked at Spencer with a wicked grin. She figured that he had to know about Portia's role in all of this, so she was going to enjoy watching him squirm.

"Well, Trina. You are absolutely right. Since I don't have access to my trust fund, I did need help with posting my bail," Esme responded.

"Who would help you?" Trina asked.

Esme's eyes veered towards Spencer. "Well, Spencer do you have any ideas about that?" she asked menacingly. Spencer's eyes gave her a hard stare as if to silence her. But, Esme was having too much fun antagonizing Trina.

"Spencer, did you pay her bail?" Trina asked, clearly irritated by the prospect of that.

To keep her from knowing the truth about her mother, Spencer was tempted to lie and say that he had. But, he and Trina were beyond keeping things from each other. They had vowed that they would always tell each other the truth. Technically, he tried to reason in his mind, by not telling her about Portia's role in Esme's attempted exit, he wasn't lying-he just had not mentioned it. So, he knew that he should definitely not tell a blatant lie. So, he said simply and with somewhat of a heavy heart, "No."

"So, why is she looking at you like that? Like you know more than you're telling me? Trina's pleading grew more desperate in tone. Esme's glee over seeing Trina in such despair outmatched Spencer's concern for keeping Trina shielded from her mother's lies.

Esme could not hesitate another moment. She had despised Trina for so long. Despite the fact that becoming involved with Spencer was all a part of Ryan's plan to get Ava, Esme never appreciated how Trina took Spencer's focus away from her. She hated seeing Trina be everything to Spencer that she knew she had never been or never could have been. Since she was still, barely, holding on to her amnesia scheme, Esme's only way of hurting Trina would come from seeing Trina's world completely upended by, not her but, her own mother.

"Trina, let's go. You don't need to deal with her now. You're still recuperating. Please, Trina, don't let her win," Spencer pleaded.

"O-Ok, but, I'm going to find out," Trina said, as she allowed Spencer to lead her away slowly.

Fuming, Esme said loudly, "It was your mother, Trina."

With that, Trina froze.

"My saving grace, the one who posted my bail, was your mother, Dr. Portia Robinson."

"Esme, you monster!" Spencer screamed.

"Spencer," Trina said, "Stop, I need to hear the obvious lies that this psycho wants to tell."

"No lies, Trina. All truth. Your mother was so determined to keep Spencer away from you that she approached me with an idea to finance my relocation out of the country with Ace. She knew that if Spencer found out that I was leaving with Ace, he would be sure to follow-leaving you behind. Unfortunately, you had to come along with Spencer on his way to find us. And, well, here we all are-courtesy of your very own mother."

Trina had just stood there, supported by Spencer, taking in everything that Esme was telling her. Tears had welled up, as had her anger. Esme was standing there, with the most self-satisfied smirk on her face, reveling in watching Trina's world begin to crumble. Before he knew it, Trina let go of his hand and used that free hand to slap Esme harder than she thought possible.

"You're lying!" Trina shouted, as Esme just smiled, rubbing her face victoriously.

"Trina, let's go back to your room. You're still on the mend. This can wait," Spencer said as he took back her hand.

"No! I need to know that she is lying," Trina replied.

At that moment, Portia had come around the corner-not knowing what had just transpired. However, she became unnerved at the sight of Esme. Not knowing what Esme might or might not have said, Portia was very careful as she chose her words to Trina.

"Trina, honey, how are you feeling? Is the walking going ok?"

Trina responded with silence and a teary-eyed cold stare. Portia's eyes moved slowly to see Spencer's face for some sort of hint as to what she had just walked in on. The disgust on his face as he held on to Trina let Portia know all that she needed to know.
