Paperwork could wait as Grissom left his office after a call from Brass. He headed to the breakroom and the first CSIs he saw were Sara and Warrick. Both working on paperwork of their own regarding the previous case. As if she had a sixth sense regarding him, Sara looked up and saw him in the doorway.

"I need you two. Brass says there's a homicide with a mysterious caller."

"Okay." Sara closed her file and stood up, leaving her chair empty.

Warrick did the same, "right behind you Gris."

"Thank you." He said as he turned to leave, leaving them to get themselves ready for their shift.

Sara found herself irritated at Sofia's attitude regarding her call. It was just after ten and the blonde was upset she didn't respond the first time the call was made. She had her appointment rescheduled due to the doctor being out, so she had her therapy appointment at six that evening and it'd gone two hours. She was normally irritable after her appointment but blowing up at Sofia wouldn't be helpful.

Lifting fingerprints from the phone and taking hairs from the bottom of the phone booth, Sara turned to Sofia. The blonde was leaned against the phone booth as if waiting for something. "You know, sometimes people turn off their phones because they're busy."

"Busy with what?"

"I had my therapy appointment at six and it went for two hours. Then it took time to get to the lab, pick up a vehicle and come here." She looked up at Sofia. "I didn't get your call or page since my phone was off."

Sofia gave her nod, "my apologies."

"You're forgiven." Sara stood up with her collection envelopes and print lifts. "Just don't always jump to a conclusion or make assumptions until you the full story."

Grissom looked up when someone sat down in front of his desk and he found Sara with multiple files in her hands. She only looked up to smile at him before looking back down at the files. With Sara occupied, Grissom went back to his paperwork. It was peaceful and they were content to spend time in the same room without even needing to talk. They had their own files or paperwork to spend their attention on. It was only when the sun started to shine through his windows that he put aside the paperwork that could wait till the next day.

"You ready to head home?" It was a question asked gently.

"Yeah." Sara closed the files she had been working on and stood, placing them on the corner of the desk. It was a separate pile that Grissom knew belonged to her. Completed files would be in a different pile.

Sara made her way to the locker room to retrieve her bag and trade out her work shoes for her normal shoes. It was winter in Las Vegas so her beanie and scarf were necessary along with her coat. Grissom picked up her jacket from where she'd laid it as she closed her locker door. Sara turned to put it on and found him holding it up for her. She slid one arm in her jacket then the other. Once she was set for going home, the two of them walked out of the lab together.

"What would you do if our child had a genetic condition?" Sara asked him as they reached her Prius.

Grissom looked at her over the hood of her car. "I'd do whatever was necessary for them to live as normal a life as possible. I certainly won't abandon them."

"Me either." Sara stated before they got into the car. "I still can't understand why she abandoned them. Especially since Allison needed the support."

"We can't understand because we didn't live in that world. She spoke to me about why but I knew I'd never understand what she was saying." He watched Sara as she started the car. "I truly believe we can never understand the mind of a parent until we live as one."

Sara nodded. "I don't want to ever understand my mother."
