Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto

The night is serene and dark, the wind is calmly swaying outside, and the stars are twinkling over the peaceful city of Konoha. However, in contrast to the quietness of the evening, a blonde seventeen year-old adolescent is causing a wreck in his own room.

"AHHHH!" Naruto shuffles his hair in frustration. "What's happening to me?!" Naruto is undergoing an internal turmoil and confusion which leads to him rolling, and rolling on his bed.

He has no idea what this blue-haired girl from his class is doing to him. Is he happy, in pain, or what? Can someone give him an answer? He thinks that maybe it's because of her smile. That's right, her smile is the culprit. But how can that be? How can a simple smile make his heart accelerate as if it's in a car racing, or make butterflies dance happily inside his stomach, yet at the same time, do some gruesome acts like crushing his own fragile heart? Is her smile a knife that is made of beautiful yet oh so vicious diamonds or something?

Naruto finally decides that he has to be still, and ask for help.

After a few moments of contemplating who to call, he makes a resolve to dial the number of someone he can count on when it comes to logic.

"Hey Shikamaru!" He smiles with his famous Naruto Uzumaki grin, even though his smart friend cannot see him. He is confident that Shikamaru can do something about the perplexed state of his mind, body, and heart.

"Yeah?" Shikamaru replies.

"Uhh… I know I thought of calling Sasuke first. But knowing that guy, he'll just drop the call and leave me me hanging in the air. And Sakura, well maybe she can give decent advice but there's just no certainty that she won't tell Ino, and then Ino will tell Sai. And you know how unpredictable that Sai is right? He might tell the entire worl-."

"Cut to the chase, Naruto. No need to explain." Shikamaru sighs.

"So there's this girl…"

Shikamaru sighs once again.

"She smiled." Naruto says as he smiles and daydreams about the princess' mesmerizing smile.

"At you?" Shikamaru asks curiously and manages to snap Naruto out of his fantasies.

"No!" Naruto exclaims. "At that dog Kiba, and that gloomy dude." He bitterly adds.

"And so? What seems to be the problem about her smile?" The black-haired asks. He now knows who the object of his friend's attention is.

"It's hard to answer that, Shikamaru. I don't know… but I feel different. All my insides seem to be doing cartwheels but I'm happy? Am I making sense?"

There's only silence from Shikamaru's end so the blonde continues his soliloquy.

"Am I?" Naruto asks.

Shikamaru sighs for the nth time this night.

"Cursed?" Naruto gulps and starts to worry.

"What a drag." Shikamaru replies. "No, Naruto." He continues. "Relax, you just have a crush on her." Shikamaru finally declares while massaging his temple.

"Crush?" Naruto asks. "Explain it in simpler ways, Shikamaru." Naruto makes a quizzical look and crosses his arm in front of him.

Shikamaru reflects on his life and thinks about what he may have done to deserve this torture.

"Naruto, have you ever watched a romance movie?" Shikamaru infers that since explaining to Naruto will take too much effort and time, maybe, an example will finally shed light to the blonde's dilemma.

"Of course! Where the guy meets this gorgeous girl, then they go to amusement parks, and then get married eventually? Is that what's happening to me too?" Naruto starts to become ecstatic and begins to create some romantic illusions in his head where he and his lavender-eyed princess will spend time together under the moonlit night and talk about their future children, maybe a blonde boy and a blue-haired girl, just like them.

"Well somehow but wait you're thinking too far ahea—" Naruto interrupts Shikamaru. "I get it now! Thank you, Shikamaru! I knew I can count on you! Bye!" And just like that, Naruto drops the call.

Shikamaru badly wants to slam his hand on his face but decides to let it go and allow himself to have a good night sleep after this troublesome night and hopefully, he won't dream or worse, wake up to some whiskered blonde suddenly proposing in class.

"Next pair would be Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga"

Naruto freezes out of shock. If his heart was doing cartwheels several nights ago during his talk with Shikamaru, for sure, right now, it's riding on an extreme rollercoaster ride.

The class professor, Iruka Umino, is pairing up random students for an activity. Maybe the heavens heard Naruto's silent prayers as only a divine intervention would miraculously make him work on a class activity with the girl who has been stuck in his mind.

For the past few days, he has been binge-watching romance movies and series; he imagines himself as the show's hero while his long-haired classmate would be his heroine. How wonderful would it be to have her by his side, her presence enveloping him with warmth and sunshine? How lucky would he be to have his last name next to her first name?

"Naruto-kun?" Naruto is finally brought to reality by his now partner in the activity. As much as he wants to try and look calm, it is just so extremely difficult to concentrate and look cool when you have a goddess next to you.

Naruto tries his best to contribute to the activity. He'd better look good and cool. The last thing he wants to happen is to embarrass himself and make this activity, the bluenette's lowest grade in class.

When they finished their task, the lavender eyed girl was about to take their paper to submit when Naruto grabs it swiftly, like a ninja.

"Oh no, you just sit down. I'll hand our paper to Iruka-sensei."

"O-okay. Oh, and please write our names, Naruto-kun."

"Yeah, leave it to me!" Naruto grins and confidently writes down their names. Of course, he knows the girl's accurate full name. They're classmates after all, and he couldn't count how many times he replayed her name in his daydreams. He wouldn't make a mistake – or so he thought.

Naruto goes back to his seat, next to his partner, and waits for the next instructions from Professor Iruka. Though he hates class activities, he hoped this one was a long one. It's not every day that he gets to be near the girl he adores.

After collecting the students' works, Iruka calls different pairings to present their activity in front of the class, and finally…

"Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata…" Iruka raises a brow then continues "Hinata Uzumaki?"

"OH SHOOT," Naruto screams internally. He felt that his hand grew a mind of its own from all the fantasizing he has done. He turns his head slowly to where his partner is and he sees that her face is beet-red, surely because of the humiliation he has caused.

Their classmates are cooing and laughing, and Naruto sees Shikamaru just trying to sleep the second-hand embarrassment away. The knucklehead thinks of 2 options, to apologize and say that he just made a mistake, or to run out of the room and never show his face again.

But, there's a third one, and since it has come to this point and since he is the main lead in his own romantic story, then might as well do things the Naruto way.

The blonde sighs and makes a resolve.

He composes himself and calmly asks, "Hinata, would you like to have lunch together?"

Naruto chuckles as he sees his classmate turning redder than how she was."

"I-I would love to."

Well, this is different from the romantic movies he has watched but definitely better than all of them combined, and he is excited with how the plot of their story will go. Will he be able to live his fantasies and daydreams? Will his simple crush evolve into something deeper? The future is uncertain and he can only dream about it, but one thing is for sure, he will forever treasure the view in front of him, his heroine, finally smiling at him.
