The twins were safely evacuated from the house, and the fire was eventually put out. "Okay, I want to know what the hell is going on?" demanded the fire chief. "Why was the bedroom door covered in kerosine?" The Pines family stood there confused, they had no idea how that could have happened. "I think I know what this was, somebody must have broken in and started the fire deliberately" said one of the firefighters. When they checked the security cameras, they saw that there was no footage whatsoever. The same thing happened with all of the other security cameras in the neighborhood.
After an investigation, the police were unable to find any concrete evidence of how the fire happened. However, in case something like this were to happen again, several cops were stationed around the neighborhood. If the arsonist was going to strike again, they weren't going to succeed.
The following Monday at school during lunch, the fire was all anybody was talking about. "Wow, I thought Weirdmageddon was the last dangerous thing we would have to put up with" said Mabel. "As weird as it sounds, there is something else that I am way more concerned about" said Dipper. "And what would that be?" asked Mabel. "I'd rather not say, it's uncomfortable" said Dipper. "I think I know what it is, I saw you making out with your pillow last night, you're still not over Wendy" said Mabel. "Dude, it's over, move on." "Mabel, I'm completely over Wendy, I was just having a weird dream, and I was making out with an imaginary girlfriend that doesn't exist" said Dipper. "And what did this fantasy girl look like?" asked Mabel. Dipper began stuttering nervously. "You are a horrible liar" said Mabel. Not too far away from them, another student that had large muscles for an eighth grader, had overheard everything. This kid's name was Peter, and he had been bullying Dipper since they were in Kindergarten. However, it was all just mean words, he never actually did anything outrageous. "Aw, how sweet, the ugly constellation has a crush" mocked Peter. "Hey, you know that my brother is very self conscious about his birthmark" said Mabel. "Mabel just drop it, let's not lower ourselves to his level and just eat at another table" said Dipper. As he began walking away, Peter went behind him, and pulled down his pants and underwear. A bunch of other students began laughing, and Dipper was very embarrassed. Something snapped inside of Mabel. She was so angry, she punched Peter hard in the face, breaking his nose, and causing it to severely bleed.
The incident resulted in an after school detention for Mabel, and once that was over, she was summoned to the principal's office where her parents were waiting. "Listen Mabel, I get that you're going through a lot of emotions after you near death experience, but you can't just punch another student" said the principal. "He sexually harassed my brother, and now everyone in this school knows what his penis looks like" said Mabel. "There was no way I was going to sit there and do absolutely nothing." "Listen Mabel, I get that what Peter did was wrong, but if you do something like this outside of school, you're going to get arrested" said Alex. "You're not going be using any electronics for two weeks young lady" said Samantha.
When she got home and stepped into her and Dipper's shared bedroom, Dipper wasn't amused either. "Mabel, I can take care of myself, I don't need you fighting my battles for me" said Dipper. "Considering how I almost had you killed last summer, is was blatantly clear that I owed you one" said Mabel. "That was an accident, you weren't intending to put Gravity Falls in danger" said Dipper. "It's not just that, i'm trying to make up for my misdeeds" said Mabel. "I was a complete jerk to you last summer." "Do you not remember how much you had to sacrifice for me?" "I haven't been an angel either, last summer I constantly put us in situations that put others in danger" said Dipper. "Take the zombie Apocalypse for example." "I kinda had a bit of a habit of rushing into things, not knowing what the consequences would be." "I mean for crying out loud, I made a deal with Bill freaking Cipher." "The point that i'm making, is that you need to forget about the past, and focus on the future." "What's done, is done."
Authors note: Several Gravity Falls fans say that Mabel is the worst character, because of how selfish she can be at times. You have to take into consideration, that she is not the kind of character who wants bad things to happen to others. Don't even get me started on the times in the show when she is legitimately trying to help others, even if the results don't always turn out as expected. Yes, she has problems, but her heart is usually in the right place.
Dipper is a flawed protagonist, there's no denying it. He has a tendency to do things without thinking about how his actions my affect others.
