Chapter 6: First Day of School
Morning soon rolled around as Cyrus, Damien, and Axel all woke up to an already-awake-but-tired Sebastian.
"Morning everyone," Sebastian spoke, yawning in his drowsiness. "I take it you all got some decent sleep?"
"I did," Axel replied, raising his hand up slightly. "But you look dreadful. Kinda like a washed-up celebrity. But worse."
"I'm what some might call a night owl. Except almost every night." Sebastian smiled weakly at his own statement. He waved his hand. "Anyway, that isn't important. What is, however, is where the hell everyone is going." Sebastian pointed to other new students leaving the ballroom.
"Well, that one lady from the assembly yesterday said something about initiation, right?" said Cyrus. "Guess we go wherever that is."
"Wait," said Damien. "Shouldn't we go get our weapons first?"
"Weapons you say?" Sebastian grinned as he pulled out his steel ball from his pocket. "This bad boy stays on me at all times. For special occasions of course." He put it back into his pocket with an evil chuckle.
"Well, aren't you special?" Damien said playfully. "Not all of us are lucky enough to have pocket-sized weaponry."
"Speak for yourself," Axel said, smiling smugly as he pulled his staff out from under his pillow. "I haven't gone a night without this since the robbery."
Then, without missing a beat, Damien's eyes went from engaged in the conversation to spacing out. He almost seemed lost in his thoughts as he left to get dressed. Cyrus followed suit. Axel turned to Sebastian.
"What's his deal?" Axel asked.
Sebastian just shrugged.
"Your guess is as good as mine."
Axel got up to go get dressed, making sure to avoid Damien in the process. Then, the group met up in the cafeteria for breakfast.
They found an empty table in the back corner of the cafeteria and sat down.
"Hey, did you guys hear that Ruby girl constantly bickering with that Schnee girl last night?" Axel muttered, tiredly poking at a sausage link.
"I don't think anyone in Remnant could miss THAT conversation." Cyrus added, stabbing his pancake.
"And I don't think anyone could miss out on this breakfast," Sebastian spoke between the huge bites of pancakes he was shoveling into his mouth. Even Nora was staring.
Cyrus pulled his fork out of his pancake and looked at Damien, whose food was untouched. He almost seemed to completely disregard his pancakes as a contemplative look was plastered on his face.
"Bro, what's your deal?" he asked.
"Nothing. Just got a lot on my mind with this whole initiation thing. Also, first time sleeping with, you know, an actual roof over my head as far as I can remember. So, I'm still kinda taking that in." Damien replied.
"You gonna eat that, man?" Sebastian asked, his mouth dripping with syrup.
Damien focused on where Sebastian was pointing his fork and recoiled in surprise at the sight of the pancakes. Almost as if he didn't realize they existed. "Shit, was I really so lost in thought that I was ignoring this?!" he thought. He took the two pancakes on top and put them on a seperate plate. "The rest are yours," he replied, pushing his plate over.
"Your loss pal," Sebstian greedily slobbered, his fork already driving into Damien's pancakes and lifting up a heaping pile, shoving it all directly into his mouth.
Cyrus looked down at his plate to grab a bite, only to find that his pancakes weren't there. He looked up to find that they were in fact floating in the air above his head. He screamed, jumping and falling off of his seat. Sebastian looked down at Cyrus, laughing.
"You good there, buddy? Looks like you saw floating pancakes or something."
The group laughed and finished their meals, then they headed to their lockers. It was time to prepare for initiation.
