DM Taking Care Of Mom Chapter 1

Gru and Lucy had captured some bank robbers and handed them in to the police. Then they returned to the AVL headquarters. It was meeting time with Valarie Da Vinci and Silas Ramsbottom. ''Tomorrow, you all have a very busy day'' said Silas, ''Your jobs will start, especially early''. That evening they returned home as usual and the girls ran up to greet them. Then they had dinner together as usual. Then at the end of the day, they got ready for bed just the same as they always did. Early the next morning Gru and Lucy woke up and got dressed ready for work. At the AVL, their first job of the day was to capture a few criminals at the park. In the park, they laid a net on the ground, set a trip wire and lay in wait for the criminals. Shortly the criminals came running by without looking where they were going and fell right over the wire and into the net which pulled them high into the air.

They both yelled as they dangled in mid-air. Then Lucy called the police and asked them to come and get the criminals. The cops arrived and handcuffed the criminals, then they drove them away in the police car and Gru and Lucy returned to base. But Lucy wasn't feeling so good, she needed to sit down. ''Gru, honey, I feel awkward" groaned Lucy, ''My muscles are aching! And my head's killing me''. ''What? Oh, honey'' said Gru as he gave Lucy a hug, ''How could this happened?'' Gru noticed she was shivering and gasped, ''You're shaking''. Gru felt Lucy's forehead, checking the temperature. It was extremely hot, making him know that Lucy was coming down with something and not feeling well at all. She moaned and groaned from body aches and her legs were shaking. "Honey, we have to get you home right away" he said. Gru gently picked up Lucy and carried her away.

On the way out, he spoke to Silas and Valerie, ''Lucy's not feeling too good, I think she needs to go home''. ''No way…'' snarled Valerie. Silas scowled at her. ''Very well then, Mr. Gru. Take care'' he said. ''If you must'' snarled Valerie who was always inpatient with the agents. 'Thank you'' said Gru as he carried Lucy away who moaned and groaned at her body aches. He placed her in his airship car and they headed for home. As usual, Margo, Edith and Agnes were there waiting for their parents. They saw Gru park the airship and carry Lucy out towards the front door. ''Why's Dad carrying Mom?'' asked Agnes. ''Maybe she's feeling ill?'' said Margo, ''This is what happened when Mom made herself sick from eating too much ice cream''. ''Hello girls'' said Gru as he walked through the front door, Lucy greeted her daughters with a row of coughs. They saw her face flushed with redness and sweating. Now they really were worried. Gru sat Lucy in a chair and went to fetch the thermometer.

He stuck it in Lucy's mouth for a second and took it out again to look at the results. It read 37.8 C. Gru turned to the girls, ''Your mother has a fever'' he said. They gasped in shock. ''Can one of you girls go fetch her some paracetamol and some water to drink it with please?'' said Gru. "I'll do it" said Margo. After Lucy had taken some paracetamol with some water, Gru said, ''You go and get ready for bed honey and Dru and I will look after the girls tonight''. Lucy heaved herself upstairs and went to her bedroom to get changed into her pyjamas consisting of a blue shirt and boxer shorts with her bare belly sticking out. Then she got into her bed and pulled the duvet over herself. She was glad to be lying down. Lucy felt like her body was glued to the bed. She groaned as she tossed and turned trying to find a comfortable spot. The next morning, Lucy felt just as shivery and achy as she had done yesterday, only her head seemed to feel better from taking the paracetamol. She reached for her phone and called the AVL.

Silas answered the call. "Anti-Villain League, Silas Ramsbottom speaking" he said. "Sir, this is Agent Lucy Wilde" said Lucy, "I won't be able to come to work today as I'm still sick". "Oh, I see, Agent Wilde" said Silas, then he said goodbye. Gru got Lucy a cup of tea and some paracetamol before he went to work by himself. Lucy stayed in bed all day. Later that day, when the girls got home from school, Margo said, ''Mom always takes good care of us when we are sick, so let's do the same for her''. Her sisters nodded in agreement. ''What are you girls up to?'' Gru asked when he saw them in the kitchen carrying a hot water bottle and getting ready to put the kettle on. "We're making a cup of tea for Mom" replied Margo. ''And we're getting a hot water bottle ready for her'' added Edith. ''Well let me handle de hot water'' said, ''I know you want to help your mom get better as soon as possible, but I don't want any of you girls burning yourselves''.

The girls knew their dad was right so they stepped aside to give him space while he boiled the water in the kettle. When everything was ready, Margo carried the tea and hot water bottle on a tray with both hands on each of the handles and carefully carried it upstairs. Under her duvet, Lucy was muttering in her sleep. Margo walked into the room quietly. She placed the cup of tea on Lucy's bedside stand and slipped the hot water bottle under the duvet, Lucy was too busy tossing and turning she didn't notice until she put her arm on it and felt warmth. Margo tiptoed away to leave Lucy to sleep, hoping it would help her recover more quickly. Tomorrow was Saturday so she hoped Lucy would be better by then so they could have a mother daughter day to themselves like they'd done before. The next morning, Lucy still wasn't very well and greeted her daughters with a series of moans and groans. Gru brought her a morning cup of tea.

''You stay in bed today honey'' he said. Lucy nodded. Margo felt so disappointed that about not being to go out somewhere with her mom that she wanted to cry. Gru put his arm round her and said, ''Margo it's not mom's fault she's sick, eet was out of her control. You'll be able to go out with her another day''. Margo bit her lip. She knew her dad was right. ''She will get better in a few days just like you, Edith and Agnes always do whenever any of you get sick'' Gru added. Later on that day, Jillian and Jessica came to visit. They had brought Lucy some get well gifts, some grapes and a spy novel called International Secret Agent Hero. Jillian knocked softly on the bedroom door. ''Come in'' said Lucy sleepily. She sat up in bed as Jillian and Jessica walked in to her bedside. ''Hello Lucy'' said Jillian, ''We heard you weren't feeling well, so we've brought you some get well gifts''.

''Here you go Lucy'' said Jessica, handing her some grapes and a spy novel titled International Secret Agent Hero. ''Oh thank you, that's very thoughtful of you both'' said Lucy. ''It's our pleasure'' replied Jillian, ''Now you get some rest, come on Jessica sweetheart, we'd better get going, I don't want either of us to catch Lucy's fever''. ''No me neither Mom'' agreed Jessica as they left.
