"It doesn't seem like your condition had went away, but it's only been over a month, and there's a lot of improvements" my doctor told me as I was in the ER in the same hospital in Lumiose I was going to visit him in. He was my regular family doctor, so as soon as I was done with the emergency I had, he came to visit me.
"Thanks, doc" I sighed, relieved to hear that.
"The color is back in your face, your blood pressure got a lot better" he looked at the notes Yvonne had written down for me to keep "Your heart is still a bit fragile, but once you work on your anxiety, that can boost your health a lot more. Your body is getting better, but your mental health is just as important" I nodded, understanding "Your handwriting is quite girly" he joked at the notes. I explained who's been nursing me "Ah, that's very good to hear. It's nice to have a travel companion who's one step ahead of you. She even got your temperature and look notes on your progress in exercises and diet" I blushed, feeling embarrassed.
"Yeah... I'm lucky she came along" I looked at the exit of my room "I'll be able to leave soon... They haven't told me anything about Yvonne" my mom came from the door and into my room "Mom. Did you see my friend?"
"Hm? Oh, yes I have" she sighed.
"What's wrong?" She waved her hand.
"Oh, nothing. I just didn't really expect too..." she shook her head "She's fine, Calem" what's with her behavior? "She'll have to stay another day in her room. Her temperature was very high and they'll have to run some test for her" I jumped out of bed and got held back by my doctor.
"Let go. Let me see her!" Mom placed me back on my bed.
"Seeing her won't make you feel better. The doctors are taking care of her. They told me they will run some tests, but the temperature shouldn't lead to anything to serious" I looked at my shaking hands, seeing how fast they were going. I accidentally sobbed out loud and covered my mouth "Calem..."
"She's been taking care of me this whole time... And I couldn't do the same for her. I couldn't keep her stay in bed" I rubbed my face, trying not to sob, but it was hurting my chest to do that. My mom and doctor held onto me so that I could breath and take in the fact that she's going to be okay.
"She won't want to see you freaked out. When she's able to leave, greet her with a smile" mom said "There won't be any blame here. She'll be okay" I shakily sighed and nodded, taking my time to adjust myself before leaving the hospital with my mom, Shauna, and Professor Sycamore who was told what happened to me, and Shauna happen to be with him and heard the news.
"Don't go scaring us like that!" Shauna told me "I was worried sick!"
"Sorry" I rubbed my head.
"As long as he is alright and Yvonne will recover, that's all that matters" Professor Sycamore said.
"You know her?" Shauna asked him.
"Quite" he told her what he told me before "I'm glad you're doing alright now. If you have any concerns, please let me know. In the mean time, I'll have to contact her mother to tell her what happened. Farewell" he left with my mom needing to fill out some paperwork that involves any student that gets injured during the journey and the parents were told about it.
"H-Her mom..?" I gulped. I mean, Professor Sycamore was a family friend, so it's natural that he would know her number, but it's unlikely now since he was Yvonne's dad's friend and her and her mom wanted nothing to do with that man after what he did. What concerned me was that if he had her moms number still, I wonder if it's in the school records because...
I gagged before hurrying to a near by trash can to throw up "What the!?" Shauna panicked and moved my hair from my face before I was finished and wiped my face "What the matter? I thought you were better!"
"I just got anxious" I admit, shaking after throwing up.
"For what?" I can't tell Shauna. It would crush her heart if I even dare to mention Serena, especially trying to compare her to Yvonne. She most likely won't be happy "Is it about Yvonne?" I nodded "She'll be fine! Don't worry! Once she gets better, the Professor will know and let you know! It'll be okay! Just let her rest and join me for the light show!"
"Light show?"
"Didn't you hear? The lights are going to be turned back on after some heroes defeated some criminals at the powerplant!" Oh right. I almost forgot about that "Dexio and Sina had came to the Professor's office after I went to tell him something important I wanted to talk to him about face to face" she waved her hand "I won't spill what I said, so don't ask" I shrugged "Dexio and Sina burst into the room telling us that you had passed out with your care taker in the power plants and taken to the ER immediately. We weren't allowed to see you, but I'm glad I got to when you got out. I hope I can see Yvonne soon too"
"What made you like her all of a sudden?" She blushed and looked away.
"She protected me like Serena did... I can see why they were so similar, but I respect her more now than ever. Again, I apologize for giving you a hard time about it" I messed with her hair, making her angry.
"Don't worry about it" I laughed "I'm just glad you haven't been treating her badly after all that she's been doing. She tries her best, and shouldn't be-"
"I know that!" She pouted "I already apologized!" She looked up at the night sky "anyway, the prism tower should be turning on soon. Let's go!" She grabbed my arm and ran me towards the tallest tower in Lumiose City.
There was a crowd of people standing around the prism tower. Instead of standing in the back or at a distance, Shauna ignored everyone and dragged me through everyone until we were in the very front where we could see the gym leader and his sister standing up front.
"Hey! It's Clemont and Bonnie!" Shauna pointed. I looked up at how high the tower was, remembering the last time Serena and I went shopping, and while waiting, I was looking up at this tower.
"It's a very romantic area, especially when the lights are coming on" Shauna sighed "Serena would had liked to see it"
"Yeah" she looked at me.
"I know I'm not supposed to be saying this, but Serena dreamed to confess her love to you in a moment like this" my heart jumped "You were so busy with studying that no matter how many times she begged you to go with her to Lumiose, you wouldn't budge" she looked up at the tower "She only got you to leave your house to battle her. You were so focused on studying that you ended up losing" Battling wasn't a main focus of mine at the time until she disappeared.
"I sort of remembered that" I admit, having a faint memory of that day.
"She told me how much she wanted to make the moment special, but you wouldn't budge, so she confessed to you out in the field" I froze, thinking back at Yvonne asking me something similar to that.
"S-She what..?" I widened my eyes as she frowned at me "I don't remember that..." she snorted.
"Of course you don't. She told me you were too focused on the book in your hands to pay attention. It was also the reason why you lost. She tried telling you how she felt, but you ignored her" I looked down "I hate to be the one to tell you, but I feel like you'll probably wouldn't know unless I told you" she blinked a few times, looking at me staring at the floor, trying to hold back my tears "Calem?"
"I feel like it was my fault that she left... The reason why she didn't tell us she left" I hid my eyes with my hand "I didn't know... because I was only thinking of myself. I hurt her... and..." I looked at my hand with tears on it "She suffered all by herself" I shook my head, refusing to believe they were the same person! I keep beating myself up to prevent that! I don't want that!
"Hey..." Shauna reached to me before I snapped my head up, making her jump.
"I need to battle" I said, needing to get myself to bounce back and not cry, and walked over to Clemont as the lights turned on. Everyone in the crowd was astonished by the lights while I stood in front of Clemont staring at me facing him.
"Hey, Calem! It's been a long time since I've seen yah" I nodded.
"Clemont. Battle me" I went straight to the point. He stared at me for a moment before smiling and accepted my proposal. Anything to keep my mind off it. Anything to forget what Shauna just told me. If I keep thinking about it, I won't get any better and I may not be able to face Yvonne again. Get rid of it. I don't want to keep thinking about it.
I didn't expect myself to go straight into battle as soon as I got out the hospital. My mom and doctor would had been furious with me, but this is what I needed to get things off my mind.
It was hard focusing on the battle against Clemont since things are starting to escalate quickly. The more gym leaders I face, the stronger they get. Although I was close to losing, I ended up winning. My mega ring didn't end up working because I was more focused on getting myself to get rid of the things in my head than in battle.
I walked out the prism tower where the battle took place, with my brand new badge, and headed to the hospital to go see Yvonne, but visiting hours were over.
"Dammit" I walked outside and looked up at the hospital building "I could had prevented this if I just said something to her" I sighed and walked to the hotel room where my mom was staying in again due to work, and slept on the floor, staring at the ceiling while thinking things over.
"Are you still worried about your friend?" Mom asked from the bed. I would had thought she was asleep by now.
"Maybe" I sighed. She crawled to the end of the bed to look down at me.
"This friend of yours... When you two met... What made you think it was a good idea to take her with you?" I sat up, questioning why she asked "Just curious"
"I strained myself so long that I forgot how to take care of myself. I was in a bad condition that I didn't trust myself to carry my health without someone helping me. I would hate to not go on a journey after reality hit me aside the head and took me to the hospital. I thought that I needed this journey to help me, but if it wasn't for meeting her, I would had already gave up as soon as I left school. She's really sweet and shy, and I don't regret bringing her with me. I had a lot of fun"
"Your condition is better, but it's not gone. You went and did something reckless by forcing your body to face multiple criminals at the power plant. You and that girl were lucky to have made it out successfully and was brought to the hospital by your other classmates, but that wasn't something you should had done, knowing both of you were in no condition to do so"
"I don't need to be reminded that letting this happen was my fault. Yvonne had wanted to take care of them too after what they did to her and others. I could had prevented this, but I didn't want her to look back and think that she couldn't do anything for the others who were hurt because of them"
"That is her business. You don't need to follow her-"
"That's where you're wrong. We have been chased by wild Pokémon a lot. When I'm at my limit, she takes on those Pokémon while I recover or let me relax on her lap as I slept. She protected me to the point where I feel pathetic. I want to protect her, no matter what anyone says" she sighed and rested on her elbow.
"This sounds like a show you'd watch on tv" she shrugged "I'm grateful for her to help you so many times, but I want you both to make safer decisions next time. Of course, you're an adult. You don't need your mother telling you what to do, but for the sake of your safety, you must think it out before running into fire" I nodded, laying back down. She went back to her side of the bed "Just looking out for you"
"Thanks, mom... I'll try my best to control myself"
"Yvonne's mother came to the hospital after you left" I quickly sat up "I wanted to visit Yvonne one last time before I left and met her mom in her room. She's very humble and speaks very gentle that it makes you afraid to speak loudly" she chuckled. Our moms met?
"What did you guys talked about?"
"I told her the story you told me before about how you two met and what lead up to this disaster. Fortunately, she was very happy to know that Yvonne is out on a journey and is very excited to meet you" I flinched "But she had to leave. Yvonne will be in the hospital for a few days to recover from her fever, so instead of abandoning the work she was in the middle of, I suggested to give her updates and inform her of Yvonne's visit"
"Y-You'd do that?"
"Of course! This is the girl that's taking care of my son, after all. She was very grateful and will be looking forward to my calls" she giggled. I sighed and laid down again, letting the night pass without a proper good nights rest.
As soon as I got out of bed, my mom was nowhere to be found. Expecting that she was at work, I locked the room and headed towards the hospital to finally see Yvonne.
