Hi everyone. For this story, I just wanted to write a small one-shot about Kai and Jinora relationship because I love it. And Tenzin as the disapproving (at first) father, it was too funny. So, here we are. This story was also an attempt at writting very short novels, but I don't think I'll do it again. Not enough space to develop things like I like to do. Was still fun to give it a try. Also, I heard about the new Avatar series coming (not the live action, the one about the earthbending avatar). I hope we see Jinora and Kai married with kids in it. That would be so cute and satisfying.

Now, back to my others fanfics. Back to the den is next.

Without further ado, let's read.

Kai and Jinora were under a tree, enjoying a peaceful moment alone together after two weeks full of work. Jinora was sitting against the tree trunk, caressing Kai's hair while he was laying down with his head on her lap. Something he enjoyed more than he liked to admit.

"I missed those moments, you know," Kai said before he laughed. "Remember when we used to do this after our private training sessions? Tenzin wasn't happy about that."

Jinora laughed too. "I remember. My father got used to it thought. He likes you now."

Kai rolled his eyes. "As an airbender, yeah, as your boyfriend, I'm not so sure."

The two sixteen years old teenagers had been dating for three years now. Their relationship had faced some difficulties, like every couple, but they had managed to overcome them. Sometimes, with some advice from people close to them. It was their first relationship for both of them after all. The first two years had been the craziest between the rebuilding of the Air Nation, the fall of the Earth Kingdom and Kuriva rise in power. Add to that Jinora's status as an airbending and spiritual master and they couldn't spend much time together. It eventually led to a few arguments. Since then, things had calmed down and they had found ways to have more time for each other. Like the current moment. It was just a question of balance.

The moment was suddenly interrupted when someone coughed to attract their attention, startling them. Jinora and Kai turn around to see Jinora's father standing next to them with a serious expression on his face, as usual. Kai automatically stood up while Jinora lightly blushed.

"Hey dad," she asked a bit sheepishly. "Can I help you with something?"

Tenzin raised an eyebrow. "Yes, everything is ready for the Shunbun no hi. We are all waiting for you to begin."

"Already," Jinora asked looking at the sun to see what time it was. "Oh, I'm sorry. I haven't realized it was already this late."

She stood and dusted herself. Kai had completely forgotten about it. The Shunbun no hi was an Air Nomad tradition during which the airbenders celebrated the balance between day and night and the rebirth of life after winter. When the new Air Nation was founded, Tenzin had decreed, after several discussions, that this celebration could now be celebrated with your family. Since airbenders often traveled the world, it gave those who wanted the opportunity to see their family, which was greatly appreciated. For Kai, however, that didn't mean anything since he was an orphan. He was a bit upset that his moment with Jinora was interrupted like that, who knew when the next one will be, but he knew better than to ask her to ditch her family on a holiday. She turned toward him and noticed something was wrong, it didn't take her long to figure out what.

"Sorry to leave you like that," she said as she walked in front of him. "I'll make it up to you next time."

"Don't worry, I understand," Kai said honestly. "At least, we got to spend a few hours together."

Jinora gave him a peck on the lips. Tenzin then coughed to attract their attention.

"Who said anything about leaving Kai?" Both teens looked at the older man, perplexed. "The Shunbun no hi is nowadays a familial celebration after all and I don't plan on leaving anyone behind."

Kai eyes widened while Jinora smiled. None of them had expected this. Jinora had thought about asking her father if Kai could join them, but knowing how strict he was about traditions, she didn't think he would accept.

"Come on now, we are already late," he said before walking away.

Jinora happily took Kai's hand in hers and Kai allowed himself to be pulled as they followed Tenzin. This didn't go unnoticed by the Grand Master of the Air Nation. He may not always have been fond of the boy and initially didn't want his daughter to get too close to him, but to be honest the young airbender had grown on him in the past years. Though he would never admit it out loud much to his wife's dismay. He took him time to accept it, but his little girl was growing up and if she had to share her life with someone, well he was glad it was with Kai. It was time to truly welcome him into the family who he knew had already accepted the boy. Once they arrived where the rest of Jinora's family was waiting, Tenzin put his hand on Kai's shoulder and smile at him. Kai smiled back. Later that night, once the ceremonial ritual completed, Kai was playing with Jinora's brothers and sister while she approached her father who was sitting on the sideline with her mother. She hugged and thanked him for inviting Kai, knowing how much this meant for him but also for her. Tenzin hugged her back before she joined her boyfriend and siblings in their game.

Like I said, it is a very short story. What did you think of it? Shunbun no hi is actually a real celebration in Japan, it celebrates the spring equinox. That's pretty much all I know about it, but I still it fit well into the story.

That was it for today. Take care and until next time.
