Thomas And Bertie's Other Great Race
One day on the Island of Sodor, everything was going like normal. Thomas was working on his branch line like normal.
At one point, Thomas had stopped at a station to let off some passengers.
Just then Bertie arrived. "Bertie!" Thomas said, "What brings you here?" "Oh, I brought some tourist for a beach party," Bertie explained.
"Oh, Bertie!" exclaimed Thomas, "You're just in time! They've just started!" "I know," said Bertie, "I was here for a minute." "Yes," Thomas said.
After that, both Thomas and Bertie continued on with their passenger work.
Later that day, after Thomas and Bertie dropped of several more passengers at Maithwaite Station, they both have nothing to do for the rest of the day.
"Now what?" asked Thomas, "Nothing?" Bertie didn't answer. "Okay then," Thomas said. "Oh no," Annie said.
"Then let's have another race!" Bertie declared. "I knew it!" Clarabel replied. "Okay!" Thomas answered excitedly, "Where to?"
"Let's have a race to Bluff's Cove," Bertie answered. "Ok," said Thomas, "Let's go there. You're on!" "I bet I can beat you this time," said Bertie.
"Right!" agreed Thomas, "I knew it would be time for another race anyway. But, I'll win!" "You're going to be telling a different story!" said Bertie.
"All right," the stationmaster said, "Get ready." The two friends approached the main line.
The stationmaster had started the race. "On your marks," he began, "Get set and GO!" Both Thomas and Bertie raced off at once.
Because they had no passengers on board, the race was easy for them. The two friends raced off to Bluff's cove.
At one point, Thomas overtook Bertie. "I can win!" called Thomas, "I know I'll beat Bertie!" But he felt lonely without Annie and Clarabel to cheer him on.
"I know I can beat Thomas this time!" Bertie said. "I know I can beat Bertie this time!" Thomas said. Both of them raced on.
Thomas sped on the tracks and Bertie sped on the roads. But both were careful, though.
Bertie was careful when he sped by Elizabeth. "Careful," the steam lorry said unsatisfied. Nonetheless, Bertie continued onwards.
At the same time, Thomas sped along the tracks.
He had passed by Oliver and Toad with a goods train. "He's excited," Toad commented.
Then Thomas passed by Edward. "Hello, Thomas," he called. "HI!" Thomas said as he sped by Edward.
"Thomas, be careful," Edward called out, "There are some faulty points up ahead!"
But it was too late as Thomas charged onwards. "Oh dear," Edwards said to himself. Thomas charged forward.
Then on the junction that led to Bluff's cove, the failed points diverted Thomas to the wrong line. "Oh no!" cried Thomas.
His driver had stopped him quickly, and Thomas is now cross.
"You've gone too fast to make that turn!" his driver told him, "You've should have listened to Edward, but we were going too fast!"
"Oh dear," said Thomas, "Let's go back and try again."
But then suddenly, the ground underneath the rails gave way. Luckily, Thomas is still on the set of tracks that are on firm ground.
"Great!" the driver groaned, "That's our way back gone!" "Now what?" called the firemen.
"An underground mudslide," the driver said, "The rails have become unstable and now we can't go back and try again! We don't know where the heck we are!"
"This is bad," sighed Thomas. "No kidding!" said the driver out loud, "The only option now is to move forward and find another line." "All right," agreed Thomas.
He puffed forward.
Meanwhile, Bertie arrived at Bluff's cove. "I won the race!" he called, "Thomas, I beat you!" He waited for Thomas to arrive.
"Thomas?" asked Bertie as he waited and waited, but there was no sign of Thomas. Thomas continued down his path into the unknown area.
"Hold on!" called Thomas. His driver put the brakes on. "Where are we?" asked Thomas. "I don't think we should go down further," said the driver, "We're totally lost now."
"Well, we've got to get out of here," retorted Thomas.
"Perhaps I could be of service," said another voice whom Thomas never heard before.
"Who's there?" Thomas answered. That's when a shoddy-looking man walked up to Thomas. "I see that you are lost," the man said.
"Yes, I know," replied Thomas. "Where are you going?" asked The man asked.
"Bluff's cove," answered Thomas, "So. Okay, I was having a race with my friend, Bertie, but I ended up here. In nowhere."
"Nowhere is right," the mysterious man said, "But I'll help you to get to the path you need to go." "Thank you," said Thomas.
"Now follow me," the man said, "We must go now." "Right," said Thomas.
So Thomas slowly followed the man who was walking on the tracks through the unknown area. In no time, Thomas is back on a set of tracks that he knows well.
"Thank you, mister," Thomas said to the man. "No problem," the man said, "Go on your journey." "I will!" Thomas said happily and he set off once again.
"I must remain here," the man said, "My home." The man returned to a small hut near the forgotten track.
Thomas continued on this path until he met up with Trevor who is working at a field. "Okay," said Thomas.
"Make your first left turn," Trevor said, "Follow the sun in your path." "Ok," replied Thomas and he did so. "Good luck, Thomas," Trevor said.
Finally, Thomas was back on the main line and was once again on his way to Bluff's Cove. "Thanks everyone," Thomas said and he continued on.
"Well, that was kind of interesting," Clarabel said.
At last, Thomas had arrived at Bluff's cove. "Thomas!" called Bertie, "Where have you been? I've won this race!"
"I made a mistake," Thomas answered, "And have gone down the wrong way and ended up in who knows where I went."
"Oh," said Bertie, "Well, I'm glad you are safe, Thomas." "Thanks," said Thomas, "I see that you've won the race."
"Yes," answered Bertie, uninterested. "What's wrong?" asked Thomas. "It wasn't really fun waiting for you to show up," explained Bertie.
"I'm sorry, Bertie," Thomas replied, "I should have been more careful." "Oh, don't worry about it," Bertie said, "I'm just happy to see you."
"Same here," Thomas replied and told Bertie all about his mishap. "Well, that's interesting," Bertie said, "But who is this man?" "I don't know," Thomas answered.
Back at lonely railway, the man who helped Thomas settled down in his hut. "Can't let another one get lost," he said to himself, "Don't want that to happen again."
After that, Thomas and Bertie continued on with their work. "But next time," Thomas said, "I'll beat Bertie in a race!"
