Disclaimer: I do not own Winter or any other characters from Wings of Fire, only how the story goes. Wings of Fire, its characters and places belongs to Tui T. Sutherland. The only thing I do own is the OC of this story. This takes place between the last chapter and the epilogue of "Darkness of Dragons" novel. I apologize for any errors in grammar and/or if I was not accurate in reference to something.
A/N: Sorry for not getting to this much sooner. You know how busy one's life can get. Now, this is really the only pairing that's going to have an OC as a main character and will be taking place after Winter's visit from Kinkajou.

Winter and Nightflyer's Moment
The sun was starting to set over the small but growing town of Sanctuary as a lone Icewing dragon was going over some plans he had made for his scavenger observatory. Winter, a former prince to the Ice Kingdom, sat in the hut provided for him and was looking over the plans on paper for the habitat he planned for the scavengers he planned to collect for the study. He was just hoping that Kinkajou would come back to help him with this when she wasn't busy at school. The Icewing sighed and leaned away from the table to clear his head a bit. He had been working on this since Riptide had allowed him to do so and even more after Kinkajou's visit. Deciding to take a break from his project, Winter walked out of his hut to get something to distract his mind.
The town of Sanctuary was still a bit on the small side but it grew when more and more dragons came. He found himself under the shade of a tall tree and sat down to think of something than his project. And new thoughts did come to him as he started to think about all his friends back at Jade Mountain Academy. He imagined that Kinkajou must have returned by now, Turtle the Seawing he was hoping to work up the nerve to ask the forementioned Rainwing out, Peril the Skywing getting to learn like all the other students and Qibli the Sandwing from moving back and forth between the school and helping Queen Thorn in the Sand Kingdom. And then his thoughts drifted to Moonwatcher the Nightwing. He thought of her silver teardrop like scales by her eyes and the starlike pattern on her wings. Winter started thinking about at least going to visit to see them again, but didn't know when would be good considering he was wanting to complete his scavenger den. He was brought out of his thoughts when a feminine voice said, "You seem kind of lonely this evening."
Winter turned his head and his mouth dropped at whom he saw not too far. A female Nightwing stood between a couple of trees looking at him. He asked, "Moon?"
"Huh? My name is Nightflyer." The female dragon in question asked in confusion. It was enough to make Winter look really close at her. While she somewhat looked a lot like Moonwatcher, this she-dragon was a bit skinner nor did she have the teardrop scales by her eyes. With a shake of his head he was quick to say, "I'm sorry. You look like someone I know."
"This "Moon" I presume?" She asked him and tilted her head a little with a small grin. Winter only looked away at the mention of the one he had a crush on. Nightflyer happened to notice this and came a little closer. She teasingly asked him, "What's wrong, Icy?"
"It's Winter." He corrected a little harshly when he glanced at her. The Nightwing was taken aback a bit by his tone and said, "Okay. Winter it is.
"But seriously, what's wrong?" She asked with a more serious face. Winter sighed before saying, "Just thinking of some old friends is all."
"Oh." Nightflyer said before moving next to him and sitting down. While he was slightly wishing to be alone, he was also wishing that she was actually Moon. But he knew that her heart was pointing to another dragon. A dragon he greatly considered his best friend. He didn't really mean it when he lightly growled, "Dumb faced Sandwing."
"I'm sorry?" Nightflyer asked as she didn't really know what he was talking about. Remembering that she was there, Winter shook his head, "Oh, sorry. Just thinking about those friends again."
"Hmm." The Nightwing nodded, somewhat buying it. Then she guessed, "If I didn't know better, from the way you thought that I was this friend Moon of yours, I'd say that you have a massive crush on her."
"I-" Winter tried to defend himself. But this only a grin form on her face and she kept going, "And if you say that I look like her, she must be a Nightwing too. And a pretty one at that."
"So what?" He questioned with a glare, wanting her to stop. Nightflyer shrugged when she said, "Well, given how the Nightwings and Icewings used to feel about each other up until Darkstalker disappeared a while ago, you probably didn't know what to do with your feelings."
"Pfft!" The irritated Icewing scoffed. His mood softened when she asked, "But you at least want her to be happy, right?"
"I do." Winter said when he took a deep breath. The Nightwing gave a small shrug, "Then that's all you can do. And I don't think she would want you to dwell on what could have been.
"And instead just move forward." She advised, though to him it sounded like something Moon would want him to do. He tensed a little when she placed her talons over his and it made him look to her. Nightflyer genuinely said, "I think any girl would be lucky to have you."
"Thanks." Winter said, a small smile forming on his face. He was a bit surprised when she leaned closer to him and planted a small kiss on his cheek. When she leaned back Nightflyer winked, "Just one way of saying welcome to Sanctuary."
"Thanks again." Winter said as she got up to leave. Winter stood up too and asked, "Maybe I can see you again sometime."
"We'll have to see, Icy." Nightflyer teased and lightly nudged him with her wing. Winter couldn't help but laugh this time and said, "I guess I'll see you around then."
"I guess you will." She winked again before turning to leave. As she left the clearing, Winter watched her with a dreamy gaze and said, "What a girl."

Author's Note: And with that, the second book arc of Wings of Fire Moments is done. Yes, I know that this didn't exactly end with a big kiss like all the others, but this story did inspire me to make more Winter stories with our lovely Nightwing. And I know that I already did Peril and Clay from the first five, but considering she got her own book, it's only fair to do it. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
