The crowd stopped cheering and gasped as Quasimodo wiped the tomato off his face. Then a second guard called out as he threw another tomato,
"Hail to the king!"
And suddenly the crowd all began throwing vegetables at him. Quasimodo tried to walk off the stage, but he slipped on a tomato and fell down. The crowd was laughing as he tried to get up again, but someone threw a rope around him and dragged him.
Then another rope was thrown on him as they tied him down. The device he was on top of started spinning as more vegetables were being thrown at him.
The crowd pointed as they all laughed at him. Isabelle tried to get on the stage, but there were too many people in her way, so she had to barge through.
"Master please! Help me!" cried Quasimodo, but Frollo stared coldly, turned his head away, and did nothing.
Right when Isabelle was about to reach the stage, she paused when she heard this. Frollo knows Quasimodo? But how? And why did he call him Master? she though to herself in shock.
She then slowly began to climb the stairs. The crowd stopped as soon as they saw her. She knelt down and began cleaning his face with her cloak. He cowered as she approached him.
She didn't want to take her cloak off, but she couldn't stand to see him in this state. She took a deep breath and was just about to take it off, but then the Esmeralda, same gypsy girl who was dancing earlier, came on the stage to help.
"Don't be afraid. I'm sorry, This wasn't supposed to happen," Esmeralda whispered to him as Isabelle continued wiping the fruit juice off of him.
"The both of you! Get down at once!" ordered Frollo angrily.
Just then, a gust of wind blew the hood of the cloak off Isabelle, revealing her to Frollo. His face then turned redder than the tomatoes in pure rage, more so from when he discovered Isabelle was seeing a gypsy boy when she was 14 years old.
"ISABELLE!" yelled Frollo. Isabelle looked over and saw the anger in her adopted father's eyes. She also cowered somewhat.
"Yes, your Honor, as soon as I'm done freeing this poor creature," interrupted Esmeralda. Frollo then turned to her.
"I forbid it!" he barked.
Esmeralda reached under her dress, pulled out a dagger and handed it to Isabelle, who cut the ropes and freed Quasimodo. She then helped him up.
"How dare you defy me!"
"You mistreat this poor boy the same way you mistreat my people. You speak of Justice, but yet you're cruel to those who are most in need of your help,"
"SILENCE!"
"JUSTICE!"
The crowd just listened in awe. Isabelle took off her cloak and wrapped it around Quasimodo.
"Mark my words, you two will pay from this insolence," he threatened them both.
"Then it appears we crowned the wrong fool. The only fool I see is you!" she threw the crown towards Frollo as her goat, Djali, blew a raspberry at him.
The crown landed with a thud in front of Frollo. He then turned to his Captain of the Guards.
"Captain Phoebus, arrest them!" he commanded.
Isabelle froze in terror when she heard this. She knew this meant time in the dungeon. The man wearing the gold knight armor snapped his fingers and pointed towards the direction of her and Esmeralda. Then guards on horses came towards them, surrounding them.
Esmeralda didn't too worried at at, while Isabelle was terrified. Esmeralda started counting all of the guards around them.
"Well let's see, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, so there's ten of you and two of us. What are two poor girls to do?" she said to Isabelle.
She then pulled out a handkerchief, faked cried in it, and then suddenly grabbed Isabelle's hand and blew into it, both of them disappearing into the red smoke. The guards and horses were startled by this.
The next thing Isabelle knew, she reappeared and was standing one the doorsteps, against the door, right in front of the cathedral. But Esmeralda was no where to found. But then she heard her call out to the guards,
"Oh boys!"
Isabelle looked over and saw that she and Djali, her goat, were blending in with the basket of pumpkins wearing masks.
Then she looked over and saw two guards climbing up the gallow, attempted to catch her but she quickly ran off and jumped into the crowd who caught her and Djali and carried them away as she waved goodbye to the guards.
They then tried to jump off, only to have the crowd move out of the way so they hit the ground. She then landed back on the ground with Djali.
And suddenly more guards tried running after her and she jumped on a hanging cage, with an old man inside, and swung it hitting the guards and knocking them down.
The chain then broke and sent the cage rolling with Esmeralda riding on top of it with the guards chasing from behind. She then flew off, landing on a man riding a wagon type thing. They rode under a man on stilts who kicked the guards between the legs.
Esmeralda and Djali looked behind smiling, but turned their heads back in terror to see that they were headed straight towards a wagon, creating a ramp. They then flew into the air and landed with a thump.
Not looking behind them, the guards were looking around for her, only to get knocked over by the rolling cage from behind. The cage then opened, freeing the prisoner only for him to land in the stocks, trapping him once more.
Esmeralda and her goat than ran towards another man on stilts. She stepped on Djali and pulled the pants down on the stilts, having a guard get caught and sent him flying off his horse into the air. His hat landed on Esmeralda's head. She then bowed as she took it off.
Then three more soldiers cam after her. She then threw the hat like a frisbee and it hit them and flew towards Phoebus and almost decapitated him. Some more soldiers came chasing her once more and another man on tilts dropped his stick two guards to catch.
They caught it and ran right into Frollo's tent, completely knocking it down and breaking beyond repair. Frollo came out pulling himself out of it. Two more stilted men lifted Esmeralda and Djali on top of an awning and she bowed and disappeared by wrapping herself in a cloth. Isabelle was in awe.
Suddenly, the sky turned dark. She then saw Frollo put his hat back on and glare furiously at Quasimodo then at her, who was still standing by the doors of the cathedral. Then Phoebus called out,
"Seal off the area. Find the gypsy girl and do not harm her."
She saw Frollo ride up on his horse and glare at Quasimodo once more. He then jumped off the stage as the crowd made way and cleared a path for him. As he made his way through, people in the crowd, mortified, were saying bad things about him.
Isabelle walked down a few of the steps, put her arm around him as he approached her, and led him inside the cathedral. She then shut the door.
