Sonic the Hedgehog was hungry. But that wasn't new. He was always hungry nowadays. He was probably hitting a growth spurt, the first in his teenage years. Problem was, there was only so much he could eat before the guilt piled on too heavy for him to continue. Sonic the Hedgehog did not get nourishment from chili dogs, delicious though they were.

He got it from blood.

And there were only so many times in one day, in one week, he could watch the life drain out of flickies and rickies.

But tonight was different. Tonight, the hunger was too great. For once, he would have his fill.

A dark forest surrounded him. Details were lost in hazy vision. But he knew, with uncanny sense, that delicious creatures hid in every bush. He sniffed for them.

Nothing.

Strange, but unimportant.

A branch was in his way. He twisted it until it snapped off the trunk and threw it carelessly behind him.

Now he was at a crossroads. He listened for the sounds of critters.

Some bird was chirping quietly straight ahead.

Sonic slowly, silently, pushed past the thin tree between him and his prey.

But it wasn't a bird. It was a small fox, softly snoring in the undergrowth. Not that it mattered to the vampire. He was hungry, and blood was blood. Sonic crouched over the fox, salivating as he opened his mouth.

That was when Sonic woke up. He gasped a huge breath as he realized he was standing, in the dark, not in his own room but in Tails', with one ungloved hand hovering just above the young fox's chest ready to pin him down.

Tails stirred at the sound. He mumbled something resembling Sonic's name.

Sonic couldn't move. He tried to pull his offending hand back, but it wouldn't budge.

Tails rubbed his eyes before finally opening them. Sky blue caught blood red and Tails froze.

Sonic did not like the look of fear on his little brother's face. He didn't like it at all. But he still couldn't move.

Tails continued to stare at him, and the hedgehog stared back.

It took several moments, but those large blue eyes worked their magic. Sonic drew his offending hand to his own chest and pinned it there.

His stomach growled in protest.

The vampire, now thoroughly ashamed, ran back to his own bed.
