A Maelstrom on Pandora

He had lived for a long long long time most of it being in hiding, isolation, and boredom watching as Humanity slowly but surely began destroying their home world. However when he is finally found and later asked for help by a fiery redhead he decides to come out into the open once more. Now he finds himself on a his way to a place called Pandora where danger and adventure await.

Chapter 1

Author Note: Heya everyone back with a new story as you can see lol. I have been a HUGE fan of Avatar since way back in 2009 when I first saw the movie. Hell in the 14 years since then I have seen the first movie probably around 300 times so yeah.

Anyway back in January I went and saw Avatar: The Way of Water and it was awesome…I will admit there were a few minor things that kinda annoyed me a little bit but overall it was awesome.

That being said it kinda inspired me to write a Naruto x Avatar Crossover thats based on the Challenge for one I have on my profile. Anyway enough rambling hope you enjoy the intro chapter and be sure to Favorite, Follow. And Review…Oh and be sure to read the Author Note at the end of the chapter as its important.

Naruto Uzumaki sat cross-legged as he meditated within his mind. The blonde former shinobi's physical body was currently asleep in a cryo-stasis pod aboard an RDA spaceship headed towards the Moon Pandora. Said moon that orbited the Gas Giant Planet of Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri System and had been discovered a couple years ago by a RDA satellite probe. In addition to discovering the inhabitable/life-supporting moon, the probe had also discovered an extremely rare and valuable mineral called Unobtanium resided on the moon as well. This had led to the RDA leading the charge in sending people and supplies on the six year long space journey to the planet to mine the resources of the planet.

However the first group to arrive on the moon had quickly found that in addition to being a life supporting moon said life was quite dangerous to humans. From the various animals both terrestrial and airborne to even the air itself which had toxic chemicals in it that would render a person unconscious and then kill them within minutes. Then there was the native sapient species of the planet called the Na'vi. Said extraterrestrial humanoids stood at an average of between 2.5-3.9 Meters (8-12 Feet Tall), had blue skin with darker blue markings, and bioluminescent dots adorning their bodies in various places. While technologically the Na'vi were only as advanced as the humans of the Paleolithic Epoch they were not to be underestimated.

Thankfully for the first group of humans that arrived the Na'vi didn't attack on sight yet regarded them with confusion, curiosity, and caution. After some careful diplomacy on the part of Dr. Grace Augistine who had slowly managed to piece together and understand their language the group had managed to communicate with the Na'vi and peacefully interact with them. After some time the group had managed to establish a small base and started interacting with the Na'vi who taught them more about the moon and the animals that call it home. Eventually the 'Avatar' Program started where Na'vi DNA was mixed with a Human's DNA to create and grow a Na'vi body that the human would be able to operate mentally with a special machine called a RIG and it lead to even better coexistence between the two cultures.

However there were two big issues with the 'Avatar' program the first being the exorbitant cost it took to grow a single Avatar being about $80 Billion dollars, and the other being that each Avatar was only able to be operated by the person whose DNA made up half of it which meant if the person died then the Avatar body was rendered useless. There was an untested theory however that a twin sibling with a nearly identical genotype could potentially operate the body of their twin's Avatar should the twin die.

Naruto's thoughts shifted from his current journey to his past and how long and sad it was. After the Fourth Shinobi War and the whole Toneri Incident things had quieted down and he had settled down and married Hinata Hyuuga. For years things were peaceful and happy as after hundreds of years the Elemental Nations were finally at True Peace. Naruto had even become a father twice over with the births of his son and daughter Boruto and Himawari respectively and had even achieved his dream of becoming Hokage.

However it was around the time he turned 40 years old that he noticed something was wrong with his body. While all of his friends and everyone else had noticeably aged to where they clearly looked middle aged, Naruto looked as if he was still in his early 20's. Obviously this had alarmed Naruto and after many tests Tsunade, and Kurama had figured out that his aging had basically ceased or slowed to an extremely slow crawl. Not only that but his accelerated healing had been increased to a degree that surpassed the healing speed and efficiency of Tsunade's Ninja Art Creation Rebirth-Strength of a Hundred technique meaning he was able to heal from essentially any injury in a matter of seconds to minutes basically making him immortal.

Obviously this discovery had shocked and devastated Naruto upon finding out he would have to watch as all his friends and loved ones aged and died while he remained the same. Further testing had revealed that his condition was a result of a multitude of factors but it ultimately boiled down to a combination of several things. His already increased longevity and healing due to being part Uzumaki combined with his mastery of Sage mode to a degree no one had done so before, aided by his perfect synchronization with Kurama, topped with his gaining of the Yang Half of the Sage of Six Paths power had combined into a perfect cocktail to supercharge his longevity and healing.

So that was his situation and he was forced to watch as one by one his friends and loved ones grew older and older before passing away. The toughest to watch for him was his own family. The first to die had actually been his son Boruto who had gotten himself killed at the age of 18 when he tried experimenting with a jutsu only only for it to literally blow up in his face. The death of their first born had gutted both Naruto and Hinata resulting in them forsaking using jutsu entirely, something that was mirrored by Himawari who had been there to witness her brother's grisly death.

The next to die had been Hinata who passed away at the age of 87. On their final day together she had a feeling her time was coming and had asked Naruto to take her to all of their favorite places around the village which by that point had grown into a medium sized city. The two had ended the day by sitting atop the Hokage mountain watching the sunset and it was just as the sun set that Hinata passed away with a soft smile on her aged face.

Himawari was the last one to die having grown into a woman and then old woman as the years passed. She had gotten married and had a child of her own, a daughter she named Kushina in honor of the Grandmother she never knew but had heard so many stories of.

From then on it became a blurring cycle of repetition over and over he would watch his family line come into the world, grow, and die all the while the world moved on and on. Within a few centuries the Elemental Nations were almost unrecognizable. Where once stood sprawling nature stretching into the horizon now stood vast cityscapes choking out much of nature. Where once people relied on chakra for a lot of their daily activities or needs, they now relied on technology.

It deeply saddened Naruto to see the beauty of the world's nature slowly be snuffed out bit by bit. As time passed the decrease in nature started affecting multiple things. First was the decrease in nature chakra that ultimately resulted in not just the Toads but all the summoning animals slowly reverting back into the normal version of the animals they were. Following that was the death of the Bijuu who one by one ran out of chakra to sustain themselves and faded away as they were no longer able to passively recharge themselves with Nature Chakra. Not even Kurama who was technically still sealed in Naruto after the two found a way for Naruto to summon him outside the seal so he could get some fresh air was immune to this. For a time Naruto was able to siphon off part of his own chakra to make up for what Kurama couldn't get from nature. However eventually even that became not enough and on the eve of their 400th year together Kurama faded away with a toothy grin, his final words being "It's been quite the ride Naruto and we will meet again someday I can feel it".

Kurama's death hit Naruto just as much, possibly even more so than that of his children and Hinata as the old fox had been with him since the blonde's birth.

The next century or so was a blur to Naruto and it ultimately came to a head when the planet ultimately had enough so to speak as a massive tectonic shift that rocked the planet. Tens of millions of people died and nearly all of the historical markers left of the age of shinobi were destroyed as well.

It was in the aftermath of this global disaster that Naruto acted. He adopted the persona of "The Sage" a man in disguise that would go around healing people of their injuries while simultaneously and subtly gathering up all knowledge and history that remained of the shinobi era. It took time but eventually he completed his goal figuring it would be best if the age of shinobi and all references to it faded into myth as humanity rebuilt.

With his task completed Naruto faded into the shadows content to spend the rest of his existence watching from said shadows as humanity rebuilt and the "Sage" becoming nothing but another myth and legend much as the age of the shinobi did.

For the next nearly 2100 years he watched as humanity rebuilt, once more slowly building up their society and technology, falling back into the cycles of war and hatred, and ultimately squandering nature and its gifts. As more time passed and without knowledge on how to use it their ability to use chakra also waned until it faded away completely. The more he watched humanity grow again the more Naruto realized his discussion to step away was the right one.

However it was in roughly 2120 A.D. (After Destruction) that he received quite the surprise. A young 20 year old woman by the name of Grace Augistine managed to track him down and reveal that she was a descendant of his, more precisely his last descendant left alive. This was clearly a shock to the blonde as he had no idea any of his lineage survived the great quake and he was sure he had gathered everything regarding the Age of Shinobi.

Grace revealed that she had inherited a small journal that had been passed down in her family for centuries. The journal Naruto found out had ultimately belonged to his long dead daughter Himawari who had chronicled not only her life but his life as well from the stories he told her growing up. For centuries it had been entrusted to the oldest child and had survived the great quake and everything beyond.

After hearing and seeing this Naruto did something he hadn't done in centuries…he laughed. He had told Grace that it was just like his crafty little sunflower to do something like that. For the next couple weeks Naruto spent time getting to know his last descendant and the two would keep in contact after she left.

It was a decade or so later that he got a message from her about everything regarding Pandora and she had asked him to join her on Pandora when the 2nd group left. Grace had even detailed how she had cashed in a rather large favor along with emptying her bank accounts in order to fund his own Avatar being created so she wasn't taking no for an answer. That had gotten a rather long laugh from the blonde as it was just like a descendant of his to pull something he himself would do.

This all led to where he was now reflecting in his mindscape as he waited for the cryosleep to end. Naruto felt a bright light appear in the mindscape and as he opened his eyes he was blinded by the light and woke up. Opening his eyes the blonde saw the face of one of the technicians looking after the various cryo-pods "Wakey wakey sunshine we're here" the technician said before floating over to another pod and tending to the person in it.

Pulling himself out of his pod Naruto floated over to a nearby locker and retrieved what little stuff he brought with him on the trip before heading towards the shuttle that would bring him and the others down to the planet and waited for said departure.

Roughly a half hour later the blonde former shinobi felt the Valkyrie Class Shuttle touchdown on solid ground as the shuttle's security officer entered the cargo area where Naruto and the others were "Alright masks on, you do not want to be caught without one. If you are, you will be out in 2 minutes and dead in 5 from the toxins in the air." the officer says as everyone puts their air masks on and makes sure they are in working order. Moments later the cargo door to the shuttle begins opening "When the ramp lowers go directly into the command building do not dawdle, do not wander understood?" the officer adds just as the door completely lowers and everyone begins filing out of the shuttle.

As he steps foot on Pandora or more specially the massive concrete slab that the humans had made as part of their base the blonde took a brief look around as he walked towards the command building. He saw the telltale signs of industrialization as there was no plant life anywhere in sight within the base. Off to one side there were rows of both Scorpion-Class Gunships armed to the teeth with missiles and guns, alongside Samson-Class Utility Rotorcraft, however even those were sporting some weapons via missile pods on either side along with door gunner mounts. Heck the blonde could even see what was clearly a Dragon-Class Assault Gunship in the process of being built off to one side "Fucking hell why would they need a beast of a vehicle like that?" he thought to himself passing by people going about their duties or patrolling in AMP-Suits before he entered the command building.

Following the rest of the people in his group Naruto came to what was clearly the mess hall of the base before taking a seat at one of the tables. The blonde didnt have to wait long before the rest of the people he had arrived with joined him and took their own seats.

The moment they did so the lights in the mess hall suddenly dimmed and a masculine voice was heard "You are not in Kansas anymore, You are on Pandora" it said causing everyone to turn as a muscular man with graying hair trimmed short, and three scars running along the right side of his wearing a military outfit began walking down the room in the space between the rows of tables.

The man reached the end of the room before turning to look at them with a stern authoritative look "Respect that fact every second of every day and you just may live to the next day and the day after that and so on. If there is a hell, you should probably book a hotel there for some R&R after a tour on Pandora." the man says before he points out the window behind him "Out there, beyond that fence everything that crawls, flies, or squats in the mud would love nothing more than to kill you and eat your eyes like malted milk balls" he continues with a grim look.

Hearing this Naruto just rolled his eyes as while he would admit the military dude was saying some valid points, he was also laying it on kinda thick and being overdramatic in the blonde's opinion.

"As you have most likely heard, we also have an indigenous population of humanoids called the Na'vi. While relations with them are relatively peaceful at the moment that could change in the blink of an eye. Furthermore just like everything else on Pandora they are a threat despite them only using Paleolithic weapons they are still dangerous. Especially given how they are fond of using arrows dipped in a neurotoxin that will stop your heart in one minute provided their seven foot long arrows don't kill you outright" the man continues getting a few wide eyed shocked looks. "They also have bones reinforced with naturally occurring carbon fiber coupled with their tall and muscular stature that make them a formidable adversary" the man continues.

Naruto actually raises an eyebrow hearing this bit as from the way the man said everything it was as if he was painting the Na'vi as their enemy already. However the blonde former shinobi was also able to detect that the man also held a small amount of respect for the capabilities of the Na'vi if only in a fellow combatant sense.

"My name is Colonel Miles Quaritch and as Chief of Security here on Pandora it is my job to keep you all alive…" The man says finally introducing himself to the group before pausing "I will not succeed. Not with all of you at least. If you wish to survive you need to cultivate a strong mental attitude. You've got to obey the rules, Pandora Rules, rule number one…" Quaritch continues only for Naruto to start tuning him out as he was tired of the man just droning on and on.

(30 Minutes Later)

After having to listen to Quaritch drone on for another half hour, Naruto was finally on his way to the Bio Lab of the base where the 'Avatar' project was housed. Walking into the room he spots the several large incubation tanks housing the fully grown Avatars of his fellow drivers that made the trip. Spotting one tank in particular, Naruto walks over to it to see a particular one that had some of his features.

"How's he look?" Naruto hears a voice ask him, causing him to turn and see a bearded man with glasses wearing a lab coat.

"Pretty good, I see it has an interesting mix of my features mixed with those of the Na'vi. Names Naruto Uzumaki by the way" Naruto responds while also introducing himself while going for a handshake.

"Dr. Max Patel, head of syncing drivers with their Avatars, nice to meet you." Max says also introducing himself and shaking Naruto's hand. The man then turns to look at Naruto's Avatar "I have to say your Avatar is quite interesting"he adds, staring at the being.

"Oh how so?" Naruto asks with a raised eyebrow also staring at his Avatar.

"Well firstly it's slightly taller than most Avatars standing at about 9 ½ FeetTall as most of the other Avatars so far hover around in the 8 feet to almost 9 feet tall range. Then there is the unique allocation of some of the body's natural bioluminescent dots on its face making it resemble three whisker marks on each cheek when they light up…Though looking at you it's not hard to see how that happened. Other than that a scan showed that the muscle density is slightly higher meaning it's stronger than other Avatars and even the Na'vi" Max explains while rubbing his chin in thought.

"Huh interesting, how much stronger do you reckon it is?" Naruto asked in curiosity.

"Oh nothing insane or immense, but we estimate that physically it's probably about 1.5x stronger than other Avatars and the Na'vi. Again nothing insane or remarkable but definitely above the normal." Max says with a flippant wave of his hand playing it off.

"Did the scans find anything else different about my Avatar?" Naruto wondered if maybe it had also gotten a chakra pathway system due to being made up of half his dna.

"Nope, other than the three things I already listed it's completely normal why?" Max asks, quirking an eyebrow at the odd question.

"No reason, was mainly just curious as like you said a couple things were different compared to other Avatars so thought maybe there might be more as well" Naruto said with a shrug while hiding the true reason he asked.

"Ah that makes sense. Well it will take us a several hours to get yours and the others Avatars decanted but you should be able to get them up and about tomorrow for the first link. If you like I can give you a short tour of the link room now though?" Max says explaining the procedure.

"Sure got nothing else to do at the moment so might as well given how much time I will be spending there" Naruto responds with a shrug as he follows the man into another room and leaves his Avatar still floating in the incubation pod.

Walking into the large room full of high-tech equipment Naruto takes a look around the room and sees the various link-pods, some open and ready to be used and others in use. As he walks by one a technician at a console next to it pressed some buttons and the pod begins to exit the machine it's in"She's coming out" the technician says before she runs off to grab something.

As the top of the pod flips open on a hinge Naruto sees Grace lying in the special bed inside it groaning for a bit her eyes closed as she sits up and swings her legs over the side of the bed "Who's got my goddamn cigarette? Seriously guys, what's wrong with this picture?" she asks before the female technician runs back with a cigarette and lighter in hand before handing them to Grace. "Thank you!" Grace says upon grabbing the cigarette and popping it into her mouth. However as she brings the lighter up and is about to flick the lighter to light it the cigarette is yanked out of her mouth.

"I thought I told you to quit," a voice says causing Grace's eyes to narrow.

"Alright asshole I don't know who the fuck you think you are but…" Grace says angrily before turning to the side and seeing Naruto standing there her cigarette between his fingers "...Bout time you fucking got here, now give it back" she says with a raised eyebrow as she holds her hand out for him to return her cigarette.

Naruto's response is to simply break apart the cigarette between his fingers causing the eyes of the entire link rooms staff to fly open in shock "No smoking anymore, you agreed…And yeah a six year long trip does kinda take a while" he says with a lopsided grin.

"God you're here not even an hour and already I am starting to question my decision to bring you aboard" Grace says with a sigh as she rubs her face in tiredness.

"Um Grace this is…" Max begins to say trying to defuse what he thinks is a potential incident between the two.

"No introductions needed Max, Naruto and I already know each other quite well" Grace says interrupting him, before turning to Naruto "How's your Na'vi?" she asks.

"Pretty good, had plenty of time to go over the data books you sent over" Naruto says in Na'vi surprising Max and Grace.

"Wow not bad, almost perfect in fact…You used that trick of yours to learn it didn't you?" Grace replies back in Na'vi as well with a slightly irritated look in her eyes.

"Oh you know it, I mean didn't really have anything else to do so spent most of the time learning the language" Naruto replies with a shrug not specifically saying that he spent most of the time he was in cryo sleep, learning the Na'vi language in his mind as he had memorized the entire language book she sent him.

"Well Mr. Overachiever let's grab some of the crap they call food in this place and I will give you a rundown of what to expect before it's lights out" Grace says with a flippant wave as she walks out of the room.

"Um…just how do you know Grace as she has never been that civil…especially when someone took her cigarette" Max asks with wide eyes and a look of horror as he remembered the last time someone prevented her from smoking…that poor science officer was still in voluntary solitary from the trauma he received when she tore into him.

"You could say I am a family friend" Naruto replies vaguely with a slight chuckle confusing the scientist as the blonde walks out of the room after Grace.

(Mess Hall 20 Minutes Later)

Naruto stared down at his tray of what was supposedly supposed to be food with a raised eyebrow "...Is this actually edible?" he asks genuinely wondering that.

"Yeah it is…barely. Pro tip put a shit ton of hot sauce on it and it somewhat improves the taste" Grace says with a grimace as she dumps a bunch of hot sauce on her own food, scoops up a spoonful and eats it before gagging slightly and dumping more hot sauce on the rest of her food.

"Noted" Naruto replies dumping a bunch of hot sauce on his food before taking a bit and grimacing and gagging "Ugh how is it possible that this slop is even worse than the bug stew I had to eat for a month back when I was training under Ma and Pa?"he says taking a drink of water to try and wash the taste away.

"...Bug Stew?" Grace asks with a raised eyebrow wondering what the story behind that was.

"Yeah long story…Anyway what's the situation here?" Naruto says before twirling his spoon around as if indicating to everything.

"It's touch and go at times. Relations with the Na'vi, namely the Omatikaya Clan in general are decent however lately some butting of heads has started to pop up due to the increasing in mining and thus more destruction of the forests. I have been able to establish a school where I am teaching some of them English to make communicating easier as well. I can't shake this feeling in my gut though that something bad is going to happen and things are going to go tits up especially if those corporate bastards keep mining like they have been" Grace says explaining the situation and sighing at the end.

"So to summarize we are basically sitting on one massive powder keg waiting to blow up under all our asses at any moment?" Naruto asks with a raised eyebrow

"Yeah pretty much, and it's our job to make sure said powder keg doesn't blow up under said asses…Oh and also learn more about the biology of Pandora" Grace says flippantly as waves her spoon in front of her.

"...I have a strong urge to take you over my knee and spank some sense into you for dragging me into this mess…by the sage I am told old for this shit" Naruto says with a deadpan look on his face before sighing tiredly.

"Ha! Try it and they will find pieces of you scattered around the jungle old man" Grace counters with a fierce glare on her face and a cocky smirk accompanying it.

Hearing this Naruto just sighs tiredly again and mutters "Freaking youngsters having no respect for the elderly…aw hell this is payback for all the shit I gave the old man and Baa-chan isn't it?" causing his shoulders to slump in depression as he had a feeling said two people were laughing their asses off at his situation in the afterlife. The two proceeded to finish their 'food' before heading to the barracks area to sleep as night fell on Pandora.

End Chapter 1

Ending Author Note: So here is the first chapter/Intro chapter to my Naruto x Avatar Crossover. I apologize for it being a little on the shorter side compared to the length most of my chapters are nowadays but I felt like this was a good place to end the first chapter which as I said I am kinda using as an intro.

I would like to somewhat apologize for how this chapter might come off as more of an info dump/exposition chapter with a little bit of actual meat thrown in. With it being the intro chapter I decided to get all the big exposition/info dump stuff out of the way first so that I can focus on the rest of the story from here on out.

Next chapter will be Naruto entering his Avatar for the first time, first trek out into the forests of Pandora, and who knows what else.
