Early the next morning, a whole crowd of people became outside the cathedral to watch the burning of Esmeralda on the pyre. All of the gypsies were in cages, being forced to watch the event. Both Isabelle and Phoebus were put in the same cage and we're also being forced to watch.

Frollo wanted Isabelle, as part of her punishment, to watch one her only true friends be burnt alive on the pyre. After, he was planning to lock her in the dungeon for good, if not kill her all together. At this point, seeing that she would never turn out like him in any way, he fully disowned her along with Quasimodo.

At this point, she was severely whipped, worse than what she has been before, and locked up in a cell with some of the gypsies, one being Esmeralda along with Phoebus. Most of them were crammed in like sardines all night long. At least she was with her friends, although Quasimodo was put back in the bell tower.

"The prisoner, Esmeralda, has been found guilty for the crime of witchcraft." Frollo announced to the crowd, holding out a scroll.

As he was speaking, guards were sounding to drums. Frollo continued speaking.

"The sentence...Death!"

Some of the villagers were trying to fight against the guards, who were restrained them, wanting to save Esmeralda.

Isabelle watched as she saw Frollo take the torch from Cousin, the same torturer who found her crying under the table in the torture room, years ago. He then walked towards Esmeralda.

She couldn't quite hear what Frollo was telling Esmeralda from where she was standing, but she saw her spit in his face afterwards. Isabelle smiled a little seeing that. Frollo then turned to the crowd.

"The gypsy, Esmeralda, has refused to recant. This evil witch has put the soul of every citizen in Paris in mortal danger..."

Not paying attention to what Frollo was saying now, Isabelle looked up towards the bell tower, thinking of what has come for Quasimodo and she saw him, chained to the pillars on the front of the cathedral, like an animal. He wasn't even trying to break free. He was just hanging there in despair, depressed as can be.

She now realized how evil and cruel her "father" actually was. She then started thinking about all of the times she missed the signs, but most of it, she was too young to know or understand, like with the dungeon incident for example.

All her life, she just thought he was strict, it never evil. But now she knew better, after everything that has occurred. Not only was he blaming her for this, he was also going to make her watch the execution of one of her only friends to haunt her forever. Plus he was banning her from seeing Quasimodo. Ever. The first and only person she ever fell in love with.

She now thought about the baby that she had with that Gypsy boy at 14 years old. She knew now that Frollo had killed it somehow. She started feeling some tears come down her face thinking about it. She wished she could had at least held at saw it.

She also started second guessing that her mother even abandoned her at all, considering all the many lies that she discovered he told her and Quasimodo. He was no father to her nor Quasimodo at all, never was and never ever will be. She now realized he tried manipulating them both and was trying to brainwash her to be like him, since she was a very small child.

And then she heard Frollo say,

"...for Justice, for Paris, and for her own salvation! It is my shameful to send this unholy demon back where she belongs!" he finished as he lit the pyre with the torch in his hand and it began spreading, creating smoke.

"NO!" Isabelle screamed. She saw Frollo turn his head towards her and give her an evil smirk from the platform.

Her being locked in a cage, there was nothing she could do as she helplessly watched the flames make their towards Esmeralda, as she coughed and suffocated on the smoke blowing in her face.

Just when all hope seemed lost, Isabelle saw Quasimodo swing in from the cathedral, jump onto the platform, and untie Esmeralda, who had apparently fainted from smoke inhalation. He then pushed some guards away with a burning pole, who attempted to stop him.

He then swung back to the cathedral, carrying Esmeralda over his shoulder as he climbed back up the walls until he reached the large circular window in front. He held up Esmeralda in front of it and screamed,

"SANCTUARY!" He shouted over and over again to the crowd below as they cheered.

Frollo then ordered his guards to attack the cathedral. And suddenly, a huge giant berm came falling from the bell tower and it landed on Frollo's carriage, destroying it completely as the guards and the horse leading it all ran away. Even Frollo's hat got knocked off.

She saw Frollo climb down the platform, now angered, and yell to his guards,

"Come back you cowards!"

She also saw that he grabbed a guard's sword and ordered the guards to break down the door with the beam that got dropped from the top of the cathedral. They grabbed the beam and tried to break down the cathedral door with it.

Then Phoebus reached for the guard that closest to the cage and holding the keys.

"Alone at last," he said and hit the guard on the head, knocking him out cold as he took the keys from him. He then unlocked the cage and they both jumped out. Phoebus then climbed on top of the cage holding a spear and announced to the crowd,

"Citizens of Paris! Frollo has persecuted our people, ransacked our city, and now he has declared war on Notre Dame herself! Will we allow it?"

"NO!" shouted the crowd as villagers began freeing the gypsies for the cages that they were being held in.

Then they all began to fight Frollo's guards as they surrounded the cathedral. Isabelle, however, snuck around the crowd and came inside the cathedral through a side door and made her way up to the bell tower to go see Quasimodo.

When she reached the bell tower, Quasimodo was starting to build a catapult. When he saw her come, he joyfully exclaimed,

"Isabelle! You're ok!" As he embraced her in a hug.

"What can I do to help?" she asked desperately.

"Here. Help me out this together," he said, handing her a hammer.

She gladly did so. When they finished, Quasimodo grabbed hold of a hook that came from below. He pulled on it, causing some guards to hit the stone balcony and fall into the river below.

She and Quasimodo pushed the catapult they built over the edge of the cathedral and it landed hard on the ground, and part of it flipped and landed on some more guards. Isabelle uses a bellows to warm up the fire on the lead pot.

Quasimodo then grabs the hook and attaches it to the pot. Then both of then pull the rope and the contents of the pot spill out of the gargoyle mouths and land on the guards below. They watched as it poured and covered the ground below.
