Maggie Shayne is a story that combines characters from Yu Gi Oh (obviously) some NCIS and V.C. Andrews characters. The only character that is mine is Maggie. If you have any questions, concerns, comments, please reach out and review. This will be rated M for Mature for scenes of R*** and violence. I will leave a warning before those chapters.
"Seto!" Mokuba said, running into the office as the door slammed to the wall.
"What is it Mokuba?" He asked, looking up at his brother with alarm.
"We were just invited to a wedding!" The boy was excited.
"That was the emergency?"
"I never said there was an emergency." The kid said, puzzled.
He put his head in his hands. "Mokuba, whose wedding?"
"Mira Wheeler."
"Who?"
"Joey's mother."
"Why would we get invited to the dog's mother's wedding?"
"They asked me to be the ring bearer. Apparently I am the only kid they know. Will you come, Seto?"
He rolled his eyes. "When is it?"
"The rehearsal dinner is Friday night and the wedding is Saturday. They are throwing it together at the last minute. Joey's new step sister's band will be in town for the weekend. They had to get them together and know when they were coming to pick a date. She will only be here for the summer so they want to get married quickly so she can enjoy the summer and get to know everyone."
Seto rolled his eyes again and looked up at his brother miserably. "I will go to the wedding, but not the rehearsal, but I will drop you off."
"Great, thanks big brother."
Later that afternoon he had an interview, he looked across the desk at the older gray headed man. "Mr. Gibbs, you have just started this security firm. Why should I hire your company?"
"Mr. Kaiba, we are a young firm, but I have worked in law enforcement for over thirty years. I have only discharged my weapon a total of five times. All were clean shots, no reprimands in my jacket and I am a trained hostage negotiator. Plus I was in the Navy for the majority of those thirty years"
"Those are all excellent points." He looked over the file again. "Thank you Mr. Gibbs, we will be in touch." The man stood, shook his hand and saw himself out.
Friday night he drove his brother way out of town to a compound in the middle of nowhere, twenty miles outside of the city. They pulled up to a gate with a video call system. He pressed the button. The camera fired up "Halt! Who goes there?" It was a close up of a redhead with big blue eyes.
Mokuba leaned over his lap "Hey Maggie, let us in."
"Oh, hey kiddo, y'all come on in." The gate slid open soundlessly and Seto pulled his maserati through and down the long drive to the house. It was a large American style farmhouse that had just been constructed.
"Pull up over there." Mokuba said, pointing to an area where the cars were parked.
"I'm not staying, Mokuba, I am just dropping you off."
"Seto, just come meet everyone, don't be rude." The older brother rolled his eyes and cursed knowing that he could not say no to his younger brother. The kid gave a victorious motion with his hands and jumped out the car.
"Hey kiddo," the redheaded girl met them at the door as Mokuba knocked. Seto stared at her, her blue eyes were wide, her face was soft and pale with a small spray of freckles across her nose. She wore a loose cut off t-shirt that stopped just under her breasts and a pair of barely there shorts that showed a large blue eyes white dragon tattoo wrapping around her from her hip to her thigh.. "Well hello blue eyes. I'm Maggie Gibbs" She held out her hand.
"Seto Kaiba." He said, shaking hers.
"Why don't you guys come on in. Dinner is ready." She moved back and let them in as the sounds of people laughing became apparent. She led them to the dining room and he noticed more tattoos, matching pink bows on the back of her thighs, and a tramp stamp of a black rose with a bloody straight razor.
People were laughing and talking, he could pick up the distinct voices of Wheeler and his crew. Then there were more voices that he did not recognize. When they rounded the corner into the dining room he saw it was packed with teenagers. "Fix yourselfs a plate and sit, eat, drink and be merry!"
"Maggie." a familiar voice said, and he turned to see the gray headed man from his interview earlier in the week. "Mr. Kaiba, nice to see you again." Seto shook the other man's hand. "I see you have met my daughter Maggie."
"I was not aware this was your home." He answered. The girl had moved over to where another blonde boy sat with a guitar, she leaned in close and whispered something to him, he nodded and wrote something on a piece of paper. "It is a beautiful home."
"Thank you. Maggie designed it." He looked over to where his daughter stood leaning over the other boy. "That's her band partner Matt, he and his brother Tobias, Max and Casey flew in for the wedding. I think they are doing a song list now. They will be our entertainment." He smiled as the girl looked up and stuck her tongue out at her father.
"Hey, Kaiba," he heard Yugi say as he turned to see the dork squad staring at him. "Thanks for letting Mokuba take part."
"He wanted to." He answered simply, watching the young boy pile a paper plate high with food. He had started eating more, he was growing quickly, before his brother's eyes.
"Daddy, will you light the fire?" He heard Maggie ask, "we want to sit around it after the rehearsal." He looked around at the group of teens all with expectant smiles on their faces.
"Eat, rehearse, then fire. And Maggie Shaye, I want to see the playlist before you approve it. Mira does not want any surprises."
"Would I really do that Daddy?" the girl asked and Seto could hear the hint of humor in her voice.
"Magnolia Shayne, Playlist."
"Ouch, full name." The boy he now knew as Matt say.
"Give him the playlist Matthew."
After a dinner of takeout and a quick rehearsal the crew was sitting by the fire. The blonde boy strumming the guitar and Maggie sang quietly from the song list her father approved. Her voice was like silk to the ears, smooth and cool. She had a slight southern accent that really came out when she sang. But he liked it. He liked the way her skin seemed to glow in the fire light and how her hair matched the color of the fire making her look framed in fire.
They all sat around the fire for hours, the feel of it relaxing him to the point he felt drowsy. He checked his watch, it was one AM. The fire was starting to burn low
"I think we need to call it." Maggie said, looking around at the group. "The kid has been asleep for an hour." Seto looked at his brother asleep in the grass beside him.
As everyone started to gather their things she walked up to him. "I'll help you with him." Seto nodded as he picked the kid up and she walked with him to his car. "I want to thank you for allowing the kid to do this. Joey doubted that you would because you hate him. I'm glad he was wrong." She smiled up at him as he looked at her. "Bastard still owes me a motherboard though." She muttered angrily.
"A motherboard?"
"Yeah, I was at the kitchen table building one and that moron knocked a glass of soda all over it. I could have killed him!"
"Building a motherboard?" He asked as they stopped at his car and she opened the door for him to slide the sleeping child in.
"Oh yeah, it's a hobby. I've been building my own computers since I was twelve. This is the first one I've had ruined though. That was a quick $1500 thrown away."
He raised an eyebrow at her. "That's an expensive motherboard."
"Overclocking the processor." She responded by shrugging her shoulders. "Between that and the RAM I want something that I can do a lot of stuff with. My laptop is good for when I'm going between houses, but I want a desktop for school work."
He leaned against the car and crossed his arms. "School work?" He asked skeptically.
"Yeah, totally…..and maybe some gaming." Someone was calling her from the house. "I've got to get back. Have a safe trip home. We will see you tomorrow." She gave him a large smile and turned to walk back to the house. He watched her for a moment, her hips swaying as she walked, the smell of smoke and floral shampoo lingering behind her.
