Chapter 6: Human or Princely Beast Adam?
Everyone entered the big glass conference room All the family was seated and the father and mother held each other's hand as Detective Cristiano took a seat next to the doctor, and the 5 brothers were seated too.
"I am Doctor Alexander, I was in surgery with Justice, and I have never seen a strong patient such as herself, and one who is young, that has been through a lot in health history, from looking at her files and charts." "But as you know she suffered a lot of injuries, especially to her back, it will be a forever mark for her. I have never seen anything like this. It's like the work of a wild animal, not even human, that tore into her flesh." "This is one of the most horrendous things in surgery I have ever seen in my entire life. Something odd, that stuck out was her bloodstream, my medical study shows something rare and extraordinary that I have never seen before, but something that can't be ignored or said to be good or bad."
"What is that Doctor?" Benjamin
All 5 brothers looked at each other trying to understand what the doctor was saying, as Calliope held a tissue in her hand and Benjamin held her other hand squeezing it tight and sitting up straight in a tense matter.
Cristiano even crossed his arms looking at the doctor, with such radiant intensity.
"In other words, to put it simply Justice's cells, are growing rapidly, and much stronger, than ever before. Under a microscope, my staff and I saw, that her blood may be contaminated, and is trying to fight for its life, from whatever animal or human has infected her."
Just then the door opened sorry we're late doctor.
Trent and Carlos walked in, with another Detective. This is Antino Dawson (actor Jon Seda) he is another detective, who's been helping us investigate the Boardwalk where Justice was attacked. "I hope you don't mind refreshing what you said Doctor, and if it's okay for us to be here too, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Johnson?
"It's fine," Calliope said
"Hi Antonio," said to them
"Everyone nodded and said a quiet, Hello.
"As I was saying, Detective Trent, Carlos and Antino, Justice's blood cells are rare and increasing something I have never seen before in any child or adult ever before, or in anyone, her back looks as if it was torn from a wild animal, and possibly infected by a human."
"So, let me get this straight, "You don't know if it was from a human?"
"No, I am not sure at the moment, there is no proof, except her wrists, which show human bite bit marks, so yes it could be from a human, but her bloodstream is infected so an animal or human could have infected her bloodstream that is moving fast and making her very strong!"
"Strong Doctor?" "What are you saying strong?" "Everyone's strong?" Carlos
The doctor then took off his glasses and gave Carlos a look keeping his stare there and holding his breath then letting it go.
"Not This Strong!"
"What are you saying my daughter is like a superhero who has a superpower or she is like she got a power in her that makes her invincible." Benjamin
"That is exactly what I am trying to say."
"That's Crazy if she hears that, she is going to be happy and feeling better in no time!" Demetrius said
"You got that right. "She loves Super Woman." Niles
The twins pounded each other's fists.
The doctor shook his head.
"This is nothing to be happy about, or celebrating! This is serious. Your sister's health is in peril, she has venom in her blood. It's not going to go away, we are treating it!
The twins stopped and were not smiling anymore.
"Yes, she is better and recovering and she has regained consciousness and is well, but this is a huge concern of mine!"
"She said, it was a boy who did this to her doctor, not an animal, so we can cross that out!" Cristiano said
"Exactly," "My daughter said someone hurt her, and I believe her if she said it was a person, she never has lied in her entire life!" "Somebody hurt my baby, and now you're telling me that you wanna say a wild animal?" "No, I don't believe it, I will not believe it!" "You show me proof that it was an animal!" "If so, then you bring me that animal dead!" "But until then, it was a person a boy who did this. "Boy, man, I want them punished, I want them to get the worst kind of judgment and never be able to lay their hands on my child or another child again!"
"Damn right!" Benjamin said
"Believe me, I believe your daughter, and we're doing our best to get him." Antonio
"I hope so", said Lorenzo
"Family, more research needs to be done on Justice, believe me, I believe her as well, but I don't have a yes or no answer just what I can see, the tests are being run through."
"And we're running Dna." "We're having our labs run it, and it's taking a while from the blood and the glass." Trent
"Whatever DNA you find, I want samples for study." Doctor Alexander
"Sorry Doctor, the samples are in our jurisdiction, and cannot be given to you." Cristiano
"Now listen her blood is important, and whoever that person is or…. Calliope gave him a look, the doctor stopped to say "animal".
"Their important."
"Well doctor, when we are through, well give you a call for a second look, but for now, just do your job, and well do ours." Carlos and Antonio
"Move on please Doctor." Cristiano
The doctor fixed his tie. Very stern.
The blood loss, that she has endured, she is currently stable and fine. She slept, for 3 hours, until the moment you all got here." "I am concerned though. Because, the trauma, isn't over for her. She woke up, screaming, and traumatized. She wanted to fight the nurses and me as well, she was very superior in strength, as I said before, "Such Strength."
"You sure you didn't upset my sister?" Lorenzo said
Cristiano gave Lorenzo, a look, as well as the other cops, as they looked back at him.
"Of course not, we wanted to make her feel comfortable, as possible."
"Just checking Doctor," Nike said too
"Enough you too," Calliope said
The doctor continued.
"From whatever she had experienced, I gave her sedatives, to calm her down. She relaxed and went fast asleep. I want to keep her for a few more days, possibly a week or two to recover. And then, I would like her to see some of our personal health providers. I want her to talk about what she went through, if she can, but….it seems, she does not want to talk anymore. We have tried, to talk to her. But, now, she has shut us out. And that, worries me, more than, anything. When, a patient, stops talking. I am, running some tests, but I am praying, that she has not, lost the will to speak."
"WHAT?" "Doctor, what are you saying?"
I don't understand how. My daughter has always talked, since the day, she was born. She has always said, what was on her mind. Whenever the food is too hot. When the water is too cold. When she is angry, or hurt. When her brothers, get on her last nerve, and they don't get along. Now, you're telling me, my daughter, may not speak or doesn't want to say anything. How is she supposed to go to school? Huh?
Calliope then speaks.
"She was looking forward, to school, this year. This can't be happening. This…. There….. must be some mistake." Calliope
"There is one more test. And that test, is for you, her mother and father, and whoever she is closest to, to try and talk to her, and get her to speak. If it works, and she feels comfortable, and comes out of her shell, then, there is hope!"
"But" Doctor Alexander
"But?" Benjamin
"If she doesn't talk, then she may, have lost her voice."
"Oh, My God!" Calliope
The cops shook their heads. Cristiano had his fists balled tight where his arms were folded, he was mad.
"Please, I want this whole family to know, that we, don't want to give up, our hopes. Nor, do we want to immediately, become frustrated, and hurt. Believe me, breaking news to you all isn't easy. The first thought through the mind is about the worst, instead of the future of the patient, to become stronger, and to survive through, what, they have been through." - Doctor Alexander
"Doctor, do you honestly know what she has been through tonight?" Lorenzo
"We couldn't sleep knowing she wouldn't make it!" Darius
"I understand, but seeing her condition in surgery." - Doctor Alexander
"Can we see her now?" Demetrius and Niles said
"Yes, she's awake." Doctor Alexander
"Please, I must see her." Calliope
"I can talk to, you all later at your house another time," Cristiano
"No, Detective, quickly tell us now, please" Benjamin
"Justice woke up, and gave me a little description of what she remembered from that night, but she is not fully sure."
"Well, what do you expect Detective, as I told you, she has been through a tragic event, my patient isn't talking and it's likely she won't remember for a long time, or, down the road, but she has nothing right now, you can't push her too much, it will do more damage than good. You need not question her, at this time."
"What did she say, Detective?" Calliope
"She said, that it was a teenager who hurt her and that he liked her bear, but and she woke up screaming.
Detective, now is not the time." Doctor
"She was screaming?" Calliope
"Detective, I have to see her now, please….tell me another time!" Calliope
"Please Doctor, take me to her right away!"
"Right this way, Mrs. and Family." Doctor Alexander
The doctor led the family to Justice's room. As they entered:
She lay in her bed, her head on a white pillow, staring across the wall in front of her.
"Justice, honey, it's Mama!" Calliope came rushing to her daughter, planting a kiss on her cheeks, and forehead. She started rubbing her hand and her forehead.
"Sweetheart, can you look at me?" "Can you say something for Mamma and daddy?"
But Justice still looked at the wall.
"Anything, honey, would be okay, I understand, just try baby?" Calliope
"Justice, it's Daddy. Honey, we're here. Your brothers, are here too."
"Justice, it's us," Niles and Demetrius the twins waved and gave smiles and tried to make her smile. But she ignored them. They came round to her other side still trying.
"Justice, please for us. say something." Nike said
She kept staring back at the wall.
Lorenzo then came forward. After staying by the entrance to her room. He bowed his head in shame and lingered to come in, but he walked in.
He went in front of the wall, she was staring at.
"Justice, I am sorry, so sorry, please forgive me, I will never leave you, ever again, I promise." "It's Lorenzo, your big brother. I have always been there, for you, but wasn't this time, but I can guarantee it will never happen again."
Justice then started shedding tears and sobbing.
"Don't cry Justice, don't cry." "Everything is going to be okay, don't cry baby, Daddy is gonna make sure you are safe." Benjamin
"We all are." Darius
"That's right, you are not Princess Diana alone, you have your sidekicks with you," Nike said
But Justice still couldn't talk. She continued to stare back at where Lorenzo was.
"Doctor, she's not talking." "She's not talking."
"It's what I feared, I need to look at her eyes, for a moment, if you don't mind."
Please, Mother and Father will you sit? There are chairs.
"I understand how you boys feel, but I need to evaluate her, please can you wait in the waiting room." "When she has recovered, I will let you know, but for now, just your parents she has been through a lot."
"Yes, Doctor", "Let's go guys." Darius
Niles and Demetrius went first and then followed by Nike then Darius, but as they were leaving, Lorenzo just stared at his sister and looked at her. He was crying too.
Darius came back. "Lorenzo, brother, we have to go. I know your hurt, but the doctor said mom and Dad need to be with her, it's gonna be okay."
Lorenzo had his head down crying, but holding it in.
"Come on," Darius put his hand on his brother's back and helped to lead him out the room. He was having a hard time. The other brothers were looking by the door.
"It's okay."
As they left, Lorenzo looked back one last time. Before leaving his sister, who was not talking or responding.
"I'm just gonna look into her eyes, he flashed a light in her eyes." Doctor Alexander
But she refused to look into the light, the doctor had to try and open it, but she was getting upset, shaking her head, and weeping.
The doctor stopped flashing. He examined the throat. But she tried to move away from his touch.
Calliope put her hand in her husband's, crying, and putting her mouth to her hand. Benjamin squeezed, his wife's hand, as he controlled his anger, and his sadness. All he could do was be a man, for his wife and family.
The doctor pressed the nurse call button.
A nurse came in.
"I need an x-ray of her chest."
The nurse nodded and went out few minutes, and came back with an X-ray specialist who wheeled in the X-ray.
"Alright Justice, honey, we're gonna do a quick x-ray." Doctor Alexander
"The doctor raised the bed, and the nurse assisted, the x-ray specialist rolled a quick x-ray on wheels.
When it was completed, the doctor told the specialist, he needed it looked at immediately, and to get back to him. The specialist nodded, then left, and the doctor said, let's get her something to eat, see if she eats.
"Mom, Dad, what does Justice like to eat?" Doctor Alexander
"Apple Juice?" "Grape," anything she likes to drink for breakfast? Nurse
"Anything you have would be great, milk, she likes pancakes and a side of fruits and sausage links. - "Whatever options you have." Calliope
"Don't worry, I will order something for her." Nurse
"Thank you." Benjamin
The nurse left. I'm gonna look at those x-rays, and step out, I'll be back soon.
"Take your time, being in here with her." Doctor Alexander
"Thank you, Doctor" - Benjamin
