**Each chapter will explore what happens with each main character right after the last episode fades to black. I'llupdate with a new character once a week. The next chapter will be Michaela and Zeke. Please let me know what you think.**

"Hey, rookie." Jared says as he pulls back his coat to reveal the detective badge hooked on his belt to the female cop. "What's going on?"

She nods as she walks through the doors. "A confidential case about a plane that just landed." He nods and begins to turn away.

" Oh, and I was a rookie three years ago, back when that haircut was still in style." She quips with a smile on her face.

"Wow, I'm a third year too. How could I possibly have missed that charming wit at the Academy?" He says sarcastically.

"Unlucky I guess." She says as she starts to turn away. He glances down and catches her name on her uniform. "Drea Mikami," is inscribed on her name plate. "You coming?" She throws at him over her shoulder. "Yes I am." He smiles and follows her through the doors.

They start walking through a very crowded LaGuardia Airport, there is security, NYPD cops and what looks like NSA or some government agency types all walking as quickly as they can without raising suspicion. He notices that they are heading towards the gate where he just had spoken to Michaela. That encounter still stung and he wasn't minding the current distraction one bit.

He walks over to the government agency type and asks what's going on.

"Who's asking?" The agent replies.

"Detective Jared Vasquez of the 129." He replies as he looks around and notices most of the passengers gone. He's glad the Stone family departed before this circus arrived. He gets a glimpse of Drea entering the jetway with a notepad in her hand. She looks over to him just before she goes out of sight and gives him a small nod towards the plane.

"The name's Robert Vance. This is a missing persons investigation. One hundred and ninety one passengers boarded this plane in Jamaica but only 180 have currently deplaned. Eleven passengers just don't disappear into thin air, detective Vasquez." Vance excuses himself and starts walking down the gateway. He already knows this is going to be a difficult case.

Jared waits until Vance is out of sight and start towards the jetway. Careful not to alert agent Vance as he follows him. He is curious, these government types are usually called for only high profile cases, but this sounds like a bizarre hoax.

"What the hells going on in here?" Vance questions those already in the plane. Drea, other security types and his agents are there. A technician is drilling open the cockpit door while strange guttural noise are coming from the other side of the door.

"Where's the pilot?" asks Vance.

"It was only me." Pipes up the copilot Amatu.

"The copilot says it was only him, but this door is locked from the inside, and someone is in there." The sound of the drill as it unscrews the bolts holding the door in place, doesn't drown out the noises coming from inside.

Vance walks to the door and knocks on it. "Hello, is anyone in there?" Moans can be heard from the cockpit.

"Open up!" Vance demands. The drill is heard as the last bolt is undone. "Open up!" Vance demand loudly. The man with the drill tells Vance he has removed the last screw and moves out of the way.

The other agents, Drea and now Jared draw their guns and point towards the door. Vance swings open the door and tells everyone not to shoot.

Between the two seats is the Captain of 828, Bill Daily. His face full of fisures like the other 11 lost passengers who turned to ash on the plane. Everyone is stunned by what they are seeing. Daily brings his hands to his temple and emits a blood curling scream. They can't begin to comprehend what is going on when Daily implodes into ash.

Drea backs up and collides with Jared who is as horrified as she is.

"Did I just see that?" She whispers back to him as they start to back out of the plane.

"If it's the pilot turning to dust, then yes you did." Jared returns. This seemed like something out of science fiction.

"I want to see everyone on the plane, and that included you two ? So don't go anywhere!" Vance points at Drea and Jared. This investigation was going to be a doozy Vance could already tell.

Drea and Jared walk back up the gateway and stand close to the podium, waiting for Vance. Both not quite sure of what they had just seen.

"If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed it. What causes someone to turn to ash instantly?" Drea says as she looks at Jared. "That really did just happen?"

"I have no clue why, but we both saw it!" Jared answers. "Even Stephen King hasn't thought up something this wild. I think I need to get some coffee, clear my head. This has been the craziest night."

" You need a ride? My shift is over, we can stop and get a coffee and talk about what we saw. I think after what we just saw, we shouldn't just go home and sleep. It's definitely nightmare material." She tells him though he gets the feeling that she is one tough lady, and he'd be the one with nightmares.

Vance makes his appearance at the top of the gateway. " You two have already seen too much. I don't want to brIng anymore people into this investigation than I have to. I'll talk to your Captains tomorrow and get you on my team. Go home and get your rest. We start interviewing passengers tomorrow. I'll interview the co-pilot tonight." He waves them off and goes to speak with another group of agents and cops.

"Hey Mikami, how about that ride and coffee?"

" I know a late night diner with the best coffee. I'm game if you are," she replies and heads towards the airport doors. It's a warm night and the moon is shining brightly, as they approach her squad car.

"Don't keep me out too late, I might turn into a pumpkin," Jared jokes and sees her smiling at him.

" Now that's something I'd love to see. Will you be losing one of your loafers as you run away?" Drea teases.

"You never know, you'll have to wait and see…"
