Bridgette was sitting on the couch in the living room watching TV. She and her best friend Duncan bought a house together after their second year of college. Duncan went out for a walk about 15 minutes ago. Suddenly, her phone rung.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this, Malibu?" The person on the other end asked.
"Uhh, who is this?" Asked Bridgette confused. The only person that calls her Malibu was Duncan.
"I'm Officer Sanders of the local police station. I'm calling you from the emergency contacts off of Mr. Nelson's (Duncan's last name) phone. that was for some reason unprotected." Sanders said. Bridgette wasn't too surprised. Duncan was always thinking of new passwords that Bridgette wouldn't be able to guess, but somehow she always does. Although this time, Duncan didn't think of another password yet. Bridgette also wasn't too surprised that Duncan might have gotten in trouble with the police. Though he's slimmed down on his delinquency, he still tends to get into some trouble from time to time.
"Alright, what did he do?" She asked.
"That's not why I'm calling." Sanders replied. "Your friend Duncan was hit by a drunk driver and is now in the hospital."
Bridgette almost dropped her phone when she heard that. Her best friend was in the hospital.
"Which hospital?"
"Ontario PD."
"Ok, I'll be there soon." Bridgette hung up, got in the car, and rushed to the hospital. When she got there, she went up to the receptionist.
"I'm here for Duncan Nelson."
"He's in room 13." Bridgette thanks her went to the room Duncan was in. When she entered, she was already tearing up. Duncan was unconscious in the bed with multiple bandages on his body and head. A doctor was in the room examining him.
"How is he?" Bridgette asked quietly.
"He has multiple bruises, including a large on in his abdomen where he was hit. He seems stable, but we're not sure when he'll wake up." He said before leaving the room.
Bridgette took a seat next to the bed Duncan was in. She couldn't bare to see her best friend in the condition he's in, but she also couldn't bare to be anywhere else but by his side. Duncan was too important to her to leave like this. Memories of the two were playing through her head. The time he was teaching her how to prank and it backfired on her. The time she was teaching him how to surf and he kept falling. The time for the Valentine's dance Bridgette didn't have a date since her and Geoff broke up, so Duncan decided to go with her, despite not liking dances. Duncan meant the world to Bridgette, she couldn't imagine how life would be without him. She doesn't know how long she's been sitting there in thought, but soon a doctor tapped her on the shoulder.
"Miss, visiting hours are almost over. It would be best for you to go home and come back tomorrow." He said, but Bridgette denied.
"I'm not leaving until he's awake." She decided.
"He might not be awake for a couple of weeks." He informed.
"I don't care how long it takes, I'm not leaving him." She said firmly.
The doctor gave a thoughtful look. "Well we can bring in another bed for you to sleep in." Bridgette was grateful that she was able to stay. And so everyday she would wake up, eat in the cafeteria, and sit in the room watching over Duncan. She hardly ever left the room, and when she did it was only to get something to eat. There was a bathroom in the room where she can shower. She brought extra clothes and other items in the first day. She was determined to not leave Duncan's side no matter what.
It's been about a mouth and Duncan still hasn't woken up. Bridgette still hasn't left his side. It was six in the morning and Bridgette was asleep in a chair with her head resting on the side of Duncan's bed. She had fallen asleep while watching over him last night. There was also a doctor in the room running tests. He was writing on a clipboard when he heard some groaning. He looked up and saw that Duncan was moving around a bit before his eyes started to slowly open.
"Ugh, where am I?" He automatically asked. His voice was a bit horse from a month of not speaking.
"Good morning Mr. Nelson. You're at Toronto PD. You were involved in a terrible car accident about a month ago and was sent here." The doctor informed him.
"A month? Wow. Well I feel ok now." Duncan then heard soft breathing and turned to see Bridgette asleep.
"Your friend here hardly left your side the whole time you were here. She was quite worried about you." The doctor said. "Since you're awake now and mostly healed, you should head to the cafeteria to get some food and water in your system." The doctor said as he left. Duncan slowly got up to head to the cafeteria, but stopped and turned to look at Bridgette. She must have been exhausted. Carefully, Duncan lifted Bridgette up and gently placed her in the bed he was laying in before heading out.
About an hour later Bridgette woke up. She looked around before slowly seeing that she was in a bed.
"Huh? Could have sworn I was still in the chair." She wondered before hearing a voice nearby.
"You were, I placed you in the bed." Her eyes widened at the familiar voice. She turned and saw Duncan sitting on the other bed with some bandages on.
"Duncan?"
"Hey Malibu, missed me?" He said with a smirk. Bridgette just jumped out of bed and slammed into Duncan.
"You idiot! Don't ever scare me like that again!" Bridgette said still crying on his shoulder. Duncan laughed and hugged her back.
"Yeah, I missed you too." Duncan said as Bridgette was still hugging him with a vice grip.
"I was so worried." She said looking at him with teary eyes. "I thought... I thought..."
"Hey, it's okay now." Duncan spoke softly wiping the tears from her eyes. "I'm still here. No way would I ever leave you. Nothing will ever separate me from my best friend."
Bridgette let out a small smile as she started to stop crying. "I'm glad to hear that." She said clinging onto his arm. "But I'm not letting you out of my sight for a while."
"I'd expect nothing less." Duncan smiled as the two walked out of the hospital, knowing that they'll never leave each other's side.
Worked on this a while ago, just forgot to finish it.
