TMNT

Sometimes, Mikey wished that he could be anywhere but home. Watching all the kids play among each other, the laughs of excitement as kids rolled down the hills, or when dessert was brought into play. Nothing could take away the feeling of wanting to be accepted, but humans never accepted anything but the usual. And sadly, turtle mutants weren't on that list. But that feeling wouldn't just go away, it felt like knives were striking him deep in the heart. If he couldn't be accepted by humans, then who would accept him as himself. No strings attached.

Now, as Mikey sat on a nearby rooftop, all the memories of failing or being useless just wouldn't leave him alone. Especially his previous mission. Nothing could ever erase the pure horror attached to that one.

He hadn't meant for it all to happen, but once again, his curiosity had gotten the best of him. It was all a simple mission, get into the warehouse and ambush the foot soldiers residing there. They had been successful and left the warehouse with only a few cuts and bruises. But on the way home, that's when it took a dark turn.

Mikey had leaped from rooftop to rooftop trying to race his brother's home but almost a quarter way home, he heard somebody scream. And not just a causal anybody scream but a small girl scream. Turning his head sideways, Mikey managed to look over and watch the scene play out. A young girl about the age of sixteen was in an ally with a rock stuck on her leg. Her face was twisted with pain as tears streamed down her pale cheeks. People passed her but paid no attention, it was almost like she was invisible.

"Somebody help please," she cried out trying to contain the pain at bay. Mikey wanted to help but his brothers would kill him, lecture him and all that fun stuff. But he couldn't just walk away knowing that a poor innocent girl was stuck without any assistance. It just wasn't right.

Carefully maneuvering his way down, Mikey plopped down to the girl. His entire body was casted with shadows but if he moved anymore, his entire appearance would be visible. Mikey carefully lifted the rock as the young girl moved her leg out of harms way.

Mikey sat the rock back down and was about to leave when a small hand landed on his bicep. Turning around, he saw that the young girl had grabbed his arm as she rested all her weight on one leg.

"Sir, if I must, can I please see my rescuer?" The young girl asked. Knowing that anything could happen, eascically at a time like this, Mikey tried his best to not give in. The young girl would freak if she saw his true form.

"I'm sorry but no"

But the teenage girl didn't move, she simply sat back down. Color was starting to come back to her face, her posture was the only concerning thing left.

"Ok," she persisted, "how about we start slow, what's your name?"

"Michelangelo"

"Nice name, my name is Eudora"

Mikey sat down with more ease, "That's a cute name."

Eudora smiled back, "It means blessing in Greek, my parents are from Greece."

Taking a good glance at Eudora, Mikey saw how beautiful she looked from the shining light resting on her face. Her hair was brown with blond tints, her hair extended past her shoulders. But overall, she looked an angle from heaven.

"Wow," Mikey said quietly, "Your beautiful."

"Your sweet but I'm only as pretty as other girls," Eudora said and lowered her head in shame.

"No, your different," Mikey responded as he pushed a stray hair away from her forehead. He no longer cared that his true appearance was making itself known. Eudora was accepting and different. She accepted him, talked to him. Without even knowing what he looks like. That's real acceptance, no matter how anybody puts it.

Eudora gasped, her rescuer had long green arms, "what? Why are your arms green?"

"Because I'm different," Mikey said and allowed the light to show his entire body.

"I'm a mutant, but that doesn't change anything. Right?"

Smiling, Eudora wrapped her arms around Mikey shoulders, "no it doesn't"

It was as time had suddenly stopped; the breeze flew past them as the pair hugged. The soft breath on Mikey's neck brought him the warmest comfort. Oh, how he wanted to feel this every day. If only he could hang out with his new friend more often. But it wasn't meant to be. Their paths were different, there lives were parrel. Never meant to cross. But maybe that would be ok because Mikey had gained a new perspective.

He didn't need everyone to accept him, he only needed someone. One person made all the difference. If only his brothers could see that.

Speaking of brothers…..

"Mikey! Where are you?"

"Michelangelo!"

Just his luck, all three brothers looked down the ally to see Mikey talking to a human girl. Wait..a human girl?! That was forbidden on so many levels.

Meanwhile, Mikey had explained his new feeling of loneliness and wanting more to Eudora who had listened.

"Mikey, I know it's hard but know that being accepted isn't everything it's cracked up to be. I personally know that."

Mikey looked up, "What do you mean?"

"When I first moved to the U.S, I wanted to be this popular, pretty girl. And so, I faked it. I joined the cheer team, I dated all the football players, I even slacked on my schoolwork to look cool. But in the end, I felt so empty, so used. Life didn't even feel worth it anymore." Eudora looked over at Mikey, "Sure, I was accepted but for what? I'd rather not be welcomed if it meant going through all that again. You get what I'm saying?"

"Sadly, I do. My brothers accept me for who I am to a certain extent. I feel like I'm always annoying and such. Just like you, I'm the definition of fake," Mikey sighed. It was all true. His smile was fake, his happiness was mostly fake. Why couldn't his brothers see that?

Mikey was happy for them, not for himself. Cooking, comforting and many things were on the list as well for things supplied by Mikey to his family.

"You know" Eudora placed a hand on Mikey's arm, "I don't think your annoying."

"Thanks," Mikey replied as he looked up at the sky. The sky was awfully beautiful at this time of night, the stars beamed as the moon lighted up the entire earth.

Mikey sighed, "You know, sometimes I wish that I could be up there. With all the stars."

Eudora placed her head on Mikey's shoulder, "Me to."

It was just then that Mikey caught three sets of eyes watching him from above. His brothers had found him.

Well…Crap

"Hey um Eudora, my brothers are here so I have to go.." Mikey looked over to see that his new friend had already left. Taking his leave, Mikey met up with his brothers on the rooftop.

Raph walked over and pushed a finger in Mikey's face, "what the crap Mikey!"

"Mikey, what have we told you about humans," Leo asked sternly.

Mikey debated on how much to tell his older brothers, maybe some things were better safe kept silent. But his brothers did deserve the trust, even if it meant, all of it.

"Guys calm down, she isn't going to tell anybody. We talked, that's all."

Apparently that wasn't enough. "About what Mikey?" Donnie asked.

"About being accepted. I don't know about you guys, but I hate not being welcomed by anyone except ourselves. She told me a lot of things, but I learned that not being accepted by everyone is ok," Mikey said as tears threatened to fall.

But all things said and done, his brothers still looked angry. They had a right to, but it still stung. Mikey didn't belong to anyone; he should be allowed to go out when he wanted to. But maybe talking to a human girl had crossed that line.

Now as Mikey sat on the rooftop thinking about his actions, which his brothers made very clear in an lecture that took place once he got home, Mikey felt alone. He wished that Eudora would just suddenly pop out of nowhere, but he knew that possibility of that happening was about zero. Was wanting to talk to someone other than his brothers wrong? Yes. Was wanting to feel accepted wrong? No.

His feelings were mixed, he didn't really know what to feel at the moment. Mikey had either done something wrong or horrible. Never the other way around.

"Hey Mike, mind if I join you?"

Turning around, Mikey saw Donnie sit right next to him. Leo and Raph followed suit.

"Hey Mikey, I'm sorry you don't feel accepted, but maybe not being accepted if ok. We're nice people, and if others can't see that, it's their fault," Leo said as he rubbed his younger brothers head affectionately.

Maybe what Leo said was true, but it still hurt. Mikey stared at the stars as a new thought came to him.

Do you accept yourself?

No. He didn't. And it would take time to do exactly that, but his brothers would be right by his side the entire time, no matter how hard the journey would get.

"Aw I love you guys," Mikey said as he snuggled into his brothers embrace. His brothers only embraced tighter.

"We love you so much Mikey."
