Hi. Welcome to chapter 2. I promise this chapter is way more exciting than chapter 1. I hope you enjoy this. It's a lot more juicy. I PROMISE.

After school, the gang was walkin' to the DX to pay Steve and Sodapop a visit. When they got there, Soda was no where to be found. Steve noticed them and gestured to them to come over. But he didn't seem enthusiastic or happy.

Ponyboy's POV

"Hey, Steve. Where's Soda?" Two asked.

"You should go home, Ponyboy." Steve said, grumpily. Why would he say that? What is he talking about? Why would he say that?

"Hey, what are you talking about, man?" Dally said.

"Go home, Pony." Steve said, more firmly.

"Hey! You don't talk to him like that." Dally yelled.

"Sorry. Pony. Darry wants you home." Steve replied.

"Is everything alright?" I asked.

"I don't think so, Pony." Steve said. "Darry said it was urgent." He noticed Dani was here. He decided to try and win her over with his charm. "Well, hello there, dollface." He said, putting his elbow on her shoulder. "My name is Stev,e Randle. What's yours?"

She did not fall for his act. She shoved him off, politely and said, "I'm Dani. Nice to meet you."

Steve was dissapointed in himself. He really thought he charmed her. I guess not. I saw Dally's sly smirk. "We should get going." I said. "Let's go." The gang came with me to my house. They wanted to be there for support if something bad happened. This route home gave me a chance to show Dani the neighborhood. "And here's my house." I continued as we reached my home.

"You live with your parents, and two brothers right?" She asked. "Darry, and Sodapop, correct?"

"Yup. And Two doesn't live here, but he sure does act like it." I joked as I smiled at Two-Bit.

"Haha fery funny." Two said, sarcastically. About two seconds after he said that, he grabbed hold of me, and pinned me to the ground. We were wrestling, while he started tussling my hair. I heard the door creak open, but didn't think anything of it. As I saw Darry take a step outside the door, I could discover from his expression that something was clearly not right. He waved us over, sadly. As I entered the house I saw Soda, sitting on the couch, his face, flushed, his eyes, welled up with tears, and the joy sucked out of him. As I walked in further, I noticed a police officer standing there, facing Soda.

"You must be Ponyboy." The cop says. I nodded without saying a word. I noticed the cop didn't have his hat on. Oh no. "Why don't you come take a seat next to your brother." I slowly approached Soda, sat down next to him, put my had on his back to try and comfort him. Darry took his place, leaning against the wall. I saw the gang staring at us in silence. They seemed concerned but, that could be anything. "I understand that you and your brothers live here with your parents, correct?" He asked.

"Yes." I said, nodding.

"Well, I am sorry to inform you that your parents have passed away earlier today." He said. I was in shock. I didn't know what to say. The truth is that, I wanted to go sit in a dark corner and sob so hardly, that my fucking eyes would almost pop out.

"How?" I asked, wishing I hadn't.

"They seemed to have been crossing the train tracks, when they were unexpectedly crashed into by a train." He answered. Darry walked into the other room. He couldn't bear to let us see him cry. Two-Bit followed Darry into the other room.

"I don't think it's my place to be here right now." Dani said. "I think I'm gonna go." I respected that. She had only just met me today, and hasn't even made eye contact with Darry, or Soda. "It was nice meeting you all." She finished.

"I'll walk ya." Dally said.

"Thanks." She walked through the door and outside, Dally followed. I felt the tears well up in my eyes. I gave Sodapop a tight hug. He wrapped his arms around me, crying.

Johnny came and sat next to me on the couch. Dally sat in the chair. They were trying to be comforting. I appreciated that. They may look like tough big guys, but really they are the biggest softies ever. "Do you want us to stay?" Johnny asked.

It took me a minute. But, I eventually said, "Yes, please." I felt the tears finally start pouring out of my eyes, as I rested my head on Johnny's shoulder. I squeezed Soda's hand harder than I ever have. Darry walked in.

He started whistling and looking around as if he was waiting for us to let him join. This turned into the biggest, most comforting group hug anyone could ever imagine.

Dani's POV

As I walked home slowly, I started to think about my dad. What would happen if I were to lose him? Would I be sad like Ponyboy, or would I be happy the son of a bitch was gone? I don't know. I checked my watch and saw that it was already 6:30. "Holy shit. It's way past curfew. The son of a bitch is gonna kill me." I yelled.

"What the fuck are you talking about? It's only 6:30." Dally screamed. I sprinted at full speed all the way home. Once I made it there, Dally said, "Wait! You live HERE?!" He continued. "I live just across the ally" he said.

"Really?" I asked. So he's the boy from the rooftop. That makes sense. "Well, I guess I'll see you around." I said.

"Bye, Dani." Dally responded as he left. He started walking away, but stopped, "If you need to reach me, call this number." He said as he handed me a tiny piece of ripped up paper with a phone number.

"Thanks Dally." I said. He headed over to the barn next door. I'm guessing that is where one of his parents lives and he just lives on the second floor. But, I don't know. I placed the note into my pocket.

I walked into my building to find my father waiting for me.

"Where the hell have you been?!" He asked. In a harsh tone. "And who's jacket is that!?"

I looked down to see that I was still wearing Dally's jacket. "Ponyboy had a family emergency, so we went to his house. I got cold, so Dally gave me his jacket. I didn't realize how late it was." I explained.

"Ponyboy? Dally? Who the hell are these people?" He asked.

"My friends." I answered.

"It's an hour past curfew. Do you know what could've happened in an hour?" He continued.

"I told you. I'm sorry. I forgot."

"That's not an excuse!" Dad yelled as he struck me across the face.

Pure silence filled the room. I ran up to my room as fast as I could. I slammed the door, and dug through the boxes until I found my knife. I heard banging on my door as I rushed into the bathroom. I took the knife and aimed for my neck. But I heard my bedroom door break down at the foot of my father. My head swung around it messed up my aim butI still felt the blade pierce my skin. But not exactly where I wanted. I glanced in the mirror to see a long wound traveling from my neck, to my cheekbone. I could hear my father screaming in my bedroom. I placed the blade on my counter, and curled up into a fearful ball in the corner of my bathroom. I grasped Dally's jacket to feel the comfort of someone's presence. As I was holding the jacket, I remembered that I still had the note from Dally in the pocket. I decided to wait until dad was asleep. Then I made my move.

I opened the bathroom door. Outside of it was pure chaos. Picture frames cracked, posters ripped up, boxes torn to shreds. I snuck through the hallway, to the kitchen, where I found the phone. I looked over to the oven clock. It was 3:02 in the morning. I unplugged the phone and sprinted to my room. I had to be quiet because my dad broke down my door and he is just down the hall. I found the furthest outlet from my door. I pulled out the note from my pocket and started dialing the number.

It's ringing.

"Hi. Bucks Barn. This is Buck speaking." I heard over the phone.

"Is Dally there?" I asked.

"He's sleeping. Can I take a message?" He answered, in a thick country accent.

"No. This is urgent." I continue.

"Well, I'm sorry. I can't help you." Buck said.

"Please! Just tell him it's Dani. He'll come." I said, desperately.

"All right. Just hold on a second." Buck replied. I was trying to be quieter than a mouse.

"Do you know what time it is, man?" I heard Dally's voice through the phone.

"Dal, you gotta get over here now!" I said trying to yell quietly.

"Dani? What happened?" He asked.

"Just, get over here!" I said.

"Ok. Hang on. I'll be over there as soon as I can."

"Thank you." I said, relieved.
