Dally's POV
After the call with Dani, I couldn't tell if this was a dream. I was practically half asleep. But even if it was a dream, my friend needed help. I ran upstairs, got changed, open my window, and walked out onto the roof. I was spinning around, trying to figure out what room was Dani's. All the lights were out in every apartment. There was no way to tell. Until I heard it.
The sound of faint humming filled my ears. I listened closer. It was quiet, but detectable. I climbed from my roof onto Dani's wall. "Dani?" I said.
"Shhhhhhh!" I heard as I saw Dani's head pop out of the window.
"Dani!" I whispered as I moved closer to her window. I can only see half of her face, but once I got closer... Nothing. She wouldn't show me the other side of her face. "What happened?" I continued. I stuck my head through her window and noticed the condition of her room. Everything ripped up or torn, or broken. "What the hell happened, man?!" I said, staying quiet but with a little more force.
"I'll tell you once you get me out of here." She replied.
I started to pull her out of the window slowly and carefully. "Come to my place." I said, trying to be welcoming. We climbed over to my roof. As I helped her down, I finally saw the other half of her face. A huge scar stroke up her face. "Are you okay, man?" I said. "What happened?" I asked, making an attempt to be comforting. "Who did this?" I continued as we sat down on a bench.
"My dad-" she started.
"Did this?! Oh he is so dead!" I interrupted.
"Would you just, listen?" She requested. I shut up. "My dad... Is crazy. Ever since my mom died, he's just been... Different. Eventually, I walked in on him passed out on his office floor. He's been drinking and doing a ton of drugs ever since then. Sometimes, when he drinks too much," she paused.
"What?" I asked after a while.
"He snaps. And because of the stress of messing up, and causing him to snap, I take my knife and I..." She stopped, and rolled up her sleeves. All I saw, were thousands of scars, cuts, and wounds. "So today, when I got home, he had been drinking, A LOT. And because I was an hour past curfew, he snapped. And I snapped too." She paused again. "I ran into my bathroom, took my knife, and aimed for my neck. But I missed. Instead, I gave myself this scar." She finished, gesturing to the mark on her face. "I don't have many friends. But I felt like I could trust you."
"Besides, the gang, I don't have many others." I said. "But now I have you."
"I'm your friend?" She asked.
"Of course." I answered. "Here, you can stay up here. I'll bring some blankets, and bandages to clean up that cut. Have you eaten?"
"No." She responded, weakly.
"I bring some food, and you can stay here until we find you a better place to stay." I continued. She looked so relieved. "I'll go grab snacks and blankets." I went down to the barn kitchen and grabbed some leftover fried chicken, 2 blankets, and a pack of cigarettes. headed up to the roof and brought it all to her.
"Thank you so much. You have no idea how thankful I am." Dani thanked. I helped her clean up her cut and our eyes met. The tension was raised drastically. Are we about to kiss? It was like the whole world was melting away. It died down awkwadly when Dani cleared her throat and looked away. Oh shit! Is it my breath? It's gotta be my breath, man! Shit! Shit! Shit! "I can finish the bandages on my own. Thank you though." She continued. I sighed in embarrassment and lit a cigarette.
"Want one?" I asked awkwardly.
"No thanks. I don't smoke." She answered.
"Ok. I'ma go to sleep." I told her.
"Ok. Thanks for everything." She said as I got up. I started walking toward the door but as I opened it, she said, "Wait." I stopped, halfway through the door. "Will you stay with me?" She requested. I nodded supportively. I came back and sat down next to Dani. She was wrapped in a blanket. She had never looked more beautiful. I couldn't stop staring at her. She noticed that I was looking, and said, "You're missing the stars. They sure are beautiful tonight."
"Alright, alright, man." I said. But I couldn't stop staring at her. Here it goes again. Our eyes met again. But, as our faces grew closer together, the chemistry grew and grew. But this time, I stopped it. "We better get some rest. You sleep here, I'll go back to my room. Goodnight. Just yell if you need anything."
"Okay. Again, thank you." She said.
