Over Here

The first thing he felt was dizziness, followed by disorientation as the transporter room appeared. Tiberius Kirk started to step off.

"We're not getting anywhere with the Halkans," he said sharply. "Tell Sulu…"

"'Anywhere,' captain?" The Vulcan looked at him with a raised eyebrow. That was when Kirk first noticed the changes.

Spock was standing at the transporter controls along with Kyle, but it wasn't his Spock. This one had no beard, for one thing, and he wore a simpler blue uniform instead of his usual decorated one. Looking around, Kirk also saw that the sword and Earth symbol of the Empire was gone from the walls, as well. Then he looked down at himself and saw a green tunic, but not his, with no sash or dagger. Scott, McCoy, and Uhura were also wearing diffeerent uniforms, Uhura's for example, had no bare midriff, and they didn't have any weapons, not even their daggers.

Kirk glared at Spock. "What in blazes is going on here?" he demanded. The others also started demanding, shouting, for answers, but Kirk silenced them with a threatening look.

Spock simply looked back at him. "You appear to have been affected by the ion storm," he said. "Doctor McCoy, are you also feeling any ill effects?"

"I don't know what kind of a game this is," McCoy snarled. "But I'm not playing it, you green-blooded half-breed."

If Spock was surprised, he didn't show it. Instead, he nodded at Kyle, who simply looked bemused and opened a channel to the bridge.

"Spock to security," he said. "there are intruders on the Enterprise disguised as Captain Kirk and the landing party. Report to the main transporter room and take them into custody immediately." Looking at Kyle, he said, "Check the main transporter circuits for any malfunctions that might have been caused by the storm. In the meantime, I must report to the bridge and assume command until this situation can be resolved."

"I knew it!" Kirk exploded. "I knew you always wanted command, you traitorous…" Kirk tried to attack Spock, but after a brief struggle with both Spock and Kyle Kirk and the others were quickly restrained by multiple security guards.

"Take them to toe brig," Spock commanded with his usual composure. It wasn't easy-all of them, especially Kirk, struggled to break free as they were led away.

Once they were gone, Spock shook his head. "A most…unusual form of behavior from the Captain and the others, wouldn't you agree, Mr. Kyle?"

"Yes sir," Kyle replied. "They look and sound just like the Captain and his party, but what happened to them?"

Spock looked thoughtfully at the transporter. "That is what we must determine, and quickly. Since the ion storm was the cause, I believe that our foremost objective should be to attempt to reproduce its effects artificially. Mr. Kyle, do as thorough as an analysis of the transporter as you can, then report to me with the results."

Kyle nodded. "Right away, Mr. Spock."

The hours passed. Spock maintained an open channel with the Halkan Council, explaining to them as best he could his theory about what happened. The leader of the council agreed to wait until the "real" Kirk and his crew returned before resuming negotiations.

Kirk waited patiently in the brig. After Spock had left, he'd tried threatening and bribing the guard outside to let him and the others go, but to no avail. Finally, he turned to Scott. "All right, we're definitely somewhere else. Any ideas on how we get back home? How much is this ship like out own?"

Scott frowned. "There are some subtle differences in the engines, I can hear it. But based on the design, it's basically the same ship."

"Could we use their transporter to get us home?"

Scott thought about it. "Aye, but I'd need help." He looked at McCoy.

McCoy scowled. "I'm a doctor, not an engineer," he protested.

"You will be if we want to get out of here," Kirk snapped back. "All right. This Spock seems to be more of a scientist than ours, so he's probably looking for his own solution. Once he comes back, we grab him and force him to let us go. Then we take this ship and find a way back to our universe. The Empire will have an entire new universe to conquer."

This made the others fall in line. "For the Empire," they all said.

Spock arrived, with new guards. "I have found a way to send you back where you belong," he said, lowering the force field. "these guards will accompany you."

As they appeared to submit, Kirk made his move, trying to go for one of the guard's phasers. It didn't work-the other guards were able to stop him, and Spock himself subdued the captain and the others with nerve pinches. Nodding at the guards, he watched as they were unceremoniously carried to the transporter room. Once there, he waited patiently as they were placed on the pads and gave the order to energize, watching with hidden satisfaction as they were replaced by their counterparts.

"Welcome home, Jim," he said as Kirk-his Kirk-stepped off the transporter pad. "Welcome home."
