"The gem was born of evil's fire, the gem shall be his portal. He comes to claim, he comes to sire, the end of all things mortal."
Raven felt the penny fall out of her hand as she transformed into the portal, hearing it cling to the floor as her friends watched in shock, sadness, anger, grief.
She dared not look at her friends in hopes of making it easier for them, and for herself.
She was a demon. Well, half demon. She was destined to bring the end of the world. And she did. She wanted her friends to have the best day they could have ever wanted in hopes of them living their last day in peace, happiness, and love.
But that's not what happened.
She was careless. She didn't know there was going to be an eclipse. Of course there was going to be one. And she fell in front of her friends, body glowing in those scarlet marks that haunted her from her birthday weeks ago.
She could have said it was just another warning. She could have said it was Slade trying to mess with them. She could have said many things. But she didn't. She sat there and cried in Robin's arms as they all knew what was about to happen.
Robin.
As she thought about him, all their shared memories and moments went through her mind. Her whole life seemed to flash across her mind as she had her final moments on Earth.
There was the first time they met, how he accepted her right away without knowing her past. How he was the first one to defend her and her need for privacy. How he always made sure she was ok. The bond they shared and the amount of trust Robin had in her, and her in him. Him being there for her on her birthday, and their talk just that morning on the roof before her breakfast massacre.
She heard Starfire cry out in anguish.
Her little sister essentially. She was the one that Raven wanted to make sure had the most perfect day ever. Hell, she was offering to let the alien paint her toenails. She wasn't always patient with the princess, but she almost immediately took over the role of a big sister, just as Cyborg dubbed her his little sister.
Cyborg.
He had almost as much of an impact on her that Robin had. It seemed like the moment he laid eyes on her, he decided that he would take care of her.
If she were being honest, in the beginning all the nagging and making sure she was ok was annoying and she didn't understand why he did that. But as time went on and she allowed herself to be closer to him, she started to understand.
A strained "Dude."
For a long time, she did not enjoy the small green boy. He was loud, annoying, immature, and was always messing and picking fights with her. Well, she would usually make a comment to something he said causing him to react to it, turning it into a whole production. But either way, he just wouldn't leave her alone. So she let him know how much he annoyed her by lashing out at him more often than she would like to admit.
And now, looking down at him, she felt…upset with the way she would treat him. All he wanted to do was make her smile and laugh. And no matter how many times she blew him off or shut him down, he came right back with a smile on his face, not wanting to give up on his big sister.
Then the light came.
A blinding white night that took up everything in the room consumed Raven as her existence was no longer needed.
'I did it,' she thought, 'I'm so sorry.'
