Um. I can't remember if I already said this, but Jein is a character who has bad things happen to him. He's Aang's friend, in his new school. He's openly an airbender at this point, and it's high school, and his teacher doesn't know (he doesn't really tell adults), and, um, yeah. Oh and I stole the last name from another author I am Very Sorry but also Not Creative (it's sobadatbeinggood) and anyway. That's it.
"Hey-can I talk to you for a minute?"
"Sure, Jein. What's up?"
"Um, nothing much, I guess. Like, it's… it's not about me. It's, um, it's about Aang."
"Kyobi? You want to talk about Kyobi? Has he been bothering you?"
"Uh, no. I mean, yes, Aang, no, he hasn't been bothering me. We're actually, like friends. Um, did you know that you're scaring him? Like, a lot?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't want to be offensive or anything…"
"No, please. Say what it is you need to."
"Okay. Aang. He's, um, he's terrified of you. He's never sluffed a day in his life-his dad really wouldn't like it-but he's talked about sluffing your class. He's really scared of you."
"Is that a problem?"
"Well, yeah. I mean, I would think so. I know you try to help kids and stuff… you've done a lot for me and my family, at least. I guess, just, why are you trying to scare him?"
"Jein, look at what happened to your family. Do you really want someone who just stood there, while it happened, to get away scotch free?"
"Mr. Yimskin, may I ask you a question?"
"Sure, Jein."
"What would you do if your father took you, as a nine year old boy, and had you watch as a young girl was murdered? What would you do if he then told you how quickly he could kill you, too, so you had better be careful? Would you want more punishment for that?"
"I guess I hear you. But do you really think that was the case?"
"I do, Mr. Yimskin. He's really, actually my friend. And… remember what you said to him about the Kyobi's when you first met him? And kids?"
"I said, Kyobis are very good at messing kids up. Right?"
"Yeah. You were right."
