Kuzon's perspective (after the war's started):
Do you remember when we were kids and you came over to play? One night, we snuck out without telling our mentors. It was late, and I think they hoped we were asleep. I'm not sure they were-they were dealing with things we couldn't fathom-but they wanted us to have the freedom of childhood.
Remember how we ran to my special place out under the stars, and I told you my myths and legends, and you told me yours? I told you your stories sounded stupid, and you defended them wildly. In the end, I accepted your crazy arguments just to get you to shut up.
Remember how cold it was? I was freezing. The yellow street lights lit up everything and we could see our breath. You hugged me and told me to bend for warmth. I said I'd be fine; I didn't want to use it if it wouldn't help you. Only later, did I realize you were bending the entire time.
Remember dancing under the stars, and telling me that I better get up and dance, too? We were just kids, but you were more graceful than anyone I'd ever seen. I still had some things to teach you, though. I taught you some of my dances, and you taught me some of yours. In the warm light, we attempted the Phoenix's Flight and Kinelophant's Strut and tried to dance with the wind. I wasn't very good at any of it, but you said I was doing awesome.
Remember how when we walked back to the house, you kept running ahead? You were so excited to see anything and everything. I said it was just because you didn't live here, that in reality, everything was boring. You shrugged and went to smell the spices, look at posters, and feel the texture of the walls. I couldn't understand the magic you found in my home.
Do you remember what happened when we finally got back home? Our mentors had woken up and begun to panic. They were grateful to find us, but they-especially my parents-were also kind of angry. They told us that was stupid, and never to do it again. Remember how scared I was? I thought they'd never speak to me again.
Remember how you caught my eye, then, and grinned? You mouthed, "totally worth it", and I couldn't stop myself from smiling. You had to leave, then, on my parents orders, but I stayed up the rest of the night planning other things we could do. I made a whole list, and sent it to you, but you didn't ever respond. Later, I learned the letter had been burned.
Do you remember coming over the next day? My parents said I wasn't allowed to see you, but I snuck out anyway. You gave me a big hug and apologized for getting me in trouble. Remember what I said next? I hugged you back, even though it's not our way, and said, "Totally worth it." You smiled, then, and thanked me for being your friend.
Remember how you had to leave, then? Like, actually leave, go home kind of leave. I was sad you were leaving, because I was always so bored when you left.
Aang, I'm not bored anymore. I would do anything to get another night like that. Any chance you're going to show up again?
