Okay last one! It's kind of short, but -

In this one Aang and Zuko are brothers, except for the first time in anything I've ever written, Aang's older than Zuko. Zuko's kind of... not super nice to him, but that's not the point of this scene. They struggle, but in the end they become friends. And potentially leave their abusive father? Yay!

He was tired of school. Tired of smiling, tired of being 'positive', tired of working so hard to do everything perfectly while also being… happy. The work wasn't hard - most of the time - when he wasn't up later the night before working on… things, but the positivity and fake happiness and all of that… that was the hard part. That was what he was done with.

He might've just left, if it weren't for his brother. Might have picked up everything and risked running away, or rebelling, or might've even just… stopped trying. Or eating. Or… let himself die or something like that. But his brother was there and actually did need help and if he wasn't happy every single moment and wasn't smiling all the time, and wasn't getting perfect grades and good test scores and turning everything in early and making all the teachers love him, and if he wasn't there at home for when his brother finally started screaming so he could go and fix things, he was certain his brother could be killed. Or… not killed, but trapped. Or not allowed to go to school, which wouldn't be that bad except that meant he would be home all the time and that wasn't good.

So he kept going to school, kept fighting, kept stupidly smiling and being best friends with all of the peoples, and some people thought he was arrogant, but he wasn't, not really, he just needed to breathe. But. He couldn't breathe, so he didn't, he just kept being friendly and The Best, and kept hating school. And no one cared, and he knew no one cared because he didn't care about anyone else, so that was that.

It was hard, though, but it was always hard. It was always difficult, and everything always hurt, and he was always confused, and he always didn't know how he felt about his brother anymore, and he was always tired. But it was fine, because he was smiling and getting good grades and being there, which meant he was surviving, and his brother was still surviving, and they were both allowed to go to school, which was awesome, even if it was terrible at the same time.
