As soon as Luffy returned to the island, the place where he grew up during his childhood, he began to continue his work to help people on that Island, many more people were so grateful that upon hearing some of them call themselves Straw Hat Pirates out of sheer respect and gratitude for everything Luffy had done.

He also did some things that many would never do and things that some people from other places would consider insane.

Some things like stopping a giant dragon from going nuts on him without causing Shanks to lose an arm, he used his Haki powers along with his devil fruit power to stop the sea king without even causing either of them that much harm, in fact, one of his skills was having the ability to hear the world and thus he could speak with the Sea King once he got it to calm down.

Shanks thought that he was going nuts, this massive Sea King was going to attack Luffy, and out of nowhere he simply stopped it and began talking to it like it was no different than anyone else on the island, in the end, Luffy told people how to improve the island and thus their lives, he prevent many tragedies, and helped as many people as possible.

Seeing that the people of the island were doing better and better, that Makino and the others no longer needed as much help as before, Shanks and his pirate ship finally decided to leave the island and continue their journey, but not without giving one person one final gift, Shanks took off his hat and simply placed it on Luffy's head, saying this was a gift for what he managed to do for his daughter and her friend.

Luffy was about to object to tell Shanks that maybe the one that should receive it was Lunna, but he was already gone by the time he turned around, Luffy knew that he did that for some reason that was more than a simple gift, but anyways he will get to ask him about this and many other things later when they meet again.

The islanders took to his advice like it was something they could do themselves, so essentially the islanders became pretty self-sufficient, and more than anything Luffy found himself with even less to do as time went by, even helping in the kitchen cutting and preparing ingredients offered little diversion. His sister Lunna didn't have that problem, she spent most of her time trying to master powers that she knew her brother already mastered, but for some reason refused to tell her how to do it faster.

This made the sister very angry and sometimes called him a selfish prick, but there was a reason why he did that, the truth is that having her master her devil fruit powers served as much as physical and mental training as it was her mastering her devil fruit powers. Had Luffy done as his sister at first asked and later demanded, her power growth would have been severely hampered, considering that he knew the dangers they will face getting to the new world, let alone what was there, he had to make sure his sister was as powerful as possible.

If he had gone and told his sister this, she would not believe a single fucking word of it, calling it excuses would be the nicest way she would put it. Nevertheless, Luffy had a reason why he did that, even if his sister couldn't understand and was constantly pissed off by it.

A month after the Red-Haired Pirates left the island, there was a happy little reunion at least for Lunna and the person visiting, it was a marine ship under the command of Monkey D. Garp, vice admiral of the marines that serve the world government, she was very happy to hear that her grandpa was coming to their island home to pay her a visit, and she also expected him to bring her a new plushie. Luffy on the other hand still remembered what the man put him through, and couldn't give three shits about his visit, in fact, made an effort to avoid meeting him as much as possible, till Garp pulled one card even Luffy didn't expect, he asked, if not begged Makino to get Luffy to meet with him so he and his sister could talk with him about something immensely important.

He honestly didn't want to listen to whatever he was going to say, Luffy knew that as much as he said he loved his grandkids, he was first and foremost going to try to turn him into an immensely powerful new member of the Marines, but he was also still angry with his father who upon deciding to take his kids with him, decided only to take his daughter and left Luffy to his own luck, had it not been for Makino's kindness, he could have starved. So not exactly warm and tender feelings for either Grandpa or dear old Dad.

"Fine, I will talk with him, if only to get him to stop bugging you, you don't need that sort of stress in your life." Makino kissed him on the cheek and thanked him for doing this for her, as she told him he was actually waiting to speak with him in one of the private dining rooms back at the restaurant.

As Luffy walked in the first thing Garp noticed was that this was not the way he expected a seven-year-old to walk in, there was no childish innocence in the way he walked. "Fine, Grandpa you want to talk, so talk, but get to the bloody point cause I hate to waste time, what the hell do you want so much that you want that you had no problem bugging Makino to get me here?" He heard that and thought that Luffy sounded more like a man who had to be called to a business meeting he wanted to avoid, and less like a grandson having a joyful reunion with his grandfather.

"I happen to hear that you traveled aboard a pirate ship to another Island, I feared that Red Hair Shanks might have used some underhanded means to persuade you into becoming a lawless pirate, using his daughter and her friend as incentives. I wanted to tell you there is a much better and noble way for you to live your life, rather than become a ruthless lawless cutthroat high seas menace, the path I would want you and even my son to join is the Marines, defenders of the innocent, guardians of the people, and heroes to all the islands in the world."

This sounded more like rehearsed propaganda than actual words that should come from his mouth, "Well I ain't an easy sail or a sucker, I know that pirates aren't all mass-murdering devils, but not all marines are saints either. I value my freedom, and my ability to do what I need to do, when I need to do it, and anything that gets in the way of me doing that, just pisses me the hell off. So if I had to follow anyone's example, I probably follow Red Shanks or even Whitebeard before considering ever putting on a Marine uniform, because let's face it until the gods showed up, the Marines did jack shit about the abuse and atrocities the Celestial Dipshits, excuse me, Dragons did to innocent people, don't get me started on what the world government did to the people that could read poneglyphs. Label them devils and destroyed any island that had at least one person that could read that."

Garp was shocked that he already knew all this at his young age and was worried, seeing this Luffy decided to continue, "Do you know what was one of these large cubes? What was written on it? An apology letter between a man that can only be called Joyboy, and his mermaid lover, that was it a letter between lovers, and the world government destroyed an entire island because one person could read it. So stop with your propaganda 'cause that ain't going to work here, tell me what the hell you want so I can tell you what I want, and maybe we can truly come to terms."

Garp was freaking the hell out, Luffy knew more than any grown man should know much less a seven-year-old, "Fine, since I can't convince you that I am right, I want you to come to meet the five most important men in the world government and talk with them, they are called the Elder Stars, hopefully, their wisdom can show you that joining the Marines is not only good for you and your sister, but for the benefit of everyone on the entire world."

Luffy glared daggers at his grandfather as he told him again to stop with the fucking propaganda, cause he ain't believing it, "You want me to meet them, fine, Percy help me have the patience to deal with this amount of bullshit before I go Luke and decide to burn that fucking place to the ground. You told me what you want, and here is what I want, I want to go to several islands on our trip to the central capital of the world government, and you will provide me with everything and anything I want without question as I visit these islands if you can do that, then, by all means, I will talk with these five Elder Stars, but even you should tell I am not easy to trick. Don't do as I asked at any time during our trip and I reserve the right to simply say fuck it and leave, and you will never talk with me again, deal?"

Meanwhile, on another island Zoro and his sister were both trying to prove they were powerful, Zoro had spent all his free time training and teaching his sister how to train properly, Zoro spent many days teaching her the basics, and thanks to his training regiment she grew in strength if not skill, even if at first she objected and told him he was just a little older than she was, how could he know more about anything than her.

It only took a simple contest of strength to make her realize that what her brother was true, the objective was simple, try to catch and pick up the opponent. it was a simple grapple exercise, but in the end, she never managed to hold him for long, by contrast, he grabbed her and with one hand lifted her off the ground, since that day she obediently listened to his training, and as time went by they needed to earn money, so they decided to challenge dojos, if they defeat a dojo, they would get the title plaque for that place, the title plaque was the symbol of pride for that dojo, and so they could, in fact, ask for a large sum of berries for the return of it, or they could break it and destroy the dojo should they refuse or try something underhanded on him or his sister.

Currently, they had defeated ten dojos, and crushed three of them for various reasons, one because it actually attracts students to drug them and make slaves out of them, the second using drugs on the female students to use them in an illegal brothel, they used the girls since they would become addicted to the drugs, and the third was a dojo who tried to ambush and kill them instead of paying the agreed amount, and did so only because the master loves to kill young people, so they never felt guilty of crushing those three dojos or getting rid of such scum.

On the current island, they went to find a dojo that was famous for training some of the best swords people in the world, Zoro knew that this was the dojo where he would finally meet his childhood rival, and his childhood friend, the tragic place where he saw the girl that could have been his first crush die due to an accident, and seeing the way her brother looked at the signed made her worry, asked him what was the matter, to which he simply stated that they would challenge the dojo he was looking at next.

As they entered the place, Zoro called out to challenge the place, many students glared at Zoro as they didn't like the idea some person they had never seen before came in during training and declared a challenge to their dojo. Some students didn't know what a challenge was but they knew what a fight is, and they tried to take Zoro's sister out, try being the keyword, his sister thanks to his training was a lot stronger than those beginners and knocked four of them out using only her fist, as they dropped to the ground, she picked up one of their wood practice swords and managed to knock out eight in quick succession.

A girl who Zoro knew would be his childhood rival decided that enough was enough, and she accepted the challenge on behalf of the dojo, the master was holding the plaque that could be won should Zoro and his sister win. The girl introduced herself as Shimotsuki Kuina, the daughter of the dojo master, Zoro's sister told her she already knows, but had no reason to introduce herself to someone who was just an amateur.

That was the wrong thing to tell Kuina as she became furious and she put more strength in her attacks, managing to knock the blade out of her opponent's hand and quickly striking to win the fight. She looked at Zoro glaring asking if he planned to let one girl do all the fighting or if was he so cowardly that he couldn't fight her. Zoro simply smiled as he walked towards his sister and picked up the wooden sword from the ground.

"It is not that I don't want to fight, but fighting you would be an absolute waste of time, you are no challenge to me, I am no beginner and I know things most of your students can't imagine, such as how to use Haki, let's face it, I could defeat every student in this dojo by myself even if they all attacked me together.

This was perceived as an insult to the entire dojo and at least fifty students picked up their wooden swords and ran toward him to attack him, but that was a very big mistake, he closed his eyes for one second, and when he opened them the pressure the students felt, the way the air around him felt cold enough that they could see the vapor from their breath, to the master it was clear, he used Conqueror's Haki.

Many students began to weaken and fall unconscious on the ground, Kuina was barely standing using her sword as a cane to keep herself standing, "Only a master would be a proper challenge for me, and unlike our reputation as the dojo crushers, I do not like to pick on the weak. So do you admit defeat? or must I challenge you if only to maintain our honor?"

The master laughed and while smiling when closer to where Zoro was, placing the plaque on a nearby wall, "It is admirable that you do not wish to pick on those weaker than you, you used Conqueror's Haki, I am guessing you know the other forms of Haki as well, I find myself interested to see how well can you do against me. So come on young man, you want to challenge this dojo's master well I am right here, let us fight."

No sooner had the man said this when Zoro rushed to strike the man but he evaded the attack, launching an attack of his own with his sword, the only difference was the master was wielding a metal sword, while Zoro was still wielding the practice sword he picked up from one of the students he knocked out, it should be impossible for that sword to withstand a strike from the master using his sword but it did, and the master noticed that as his blade was about to strike his wooden sword turned black as the master's sword struck.

Koushirou knew that this young man was using Armament Haki on his sword, it was the only way that his wood sword could survive his strikes. As he rushed in for a quick succession of attacks it was clear to him that Zoro was actively evading most of his attacks and trying to use that to get into position for an attack that may give him a small advantage, Koushirou knew now that he was also using Observation haki, probably since the moment the fight between them started.

The more the master fought him the more he wanted to defeat him if only to get him to join his dojo, and so he decided to stop holding back and they fought against each other for what seemed to be half an hour, in the end, Zoro's fatigue finally caught up with him and he fell unconscious, as he saw his sister walk towards him.

Kuina walked up to her father exclaiming that so much for the bragger who said that only a master could be a challenge to him, her father looked at the young man and his sister before he looked at his daughter, "He was not bragging, I had to use secret techniques to win, and even then it was only thanks to the fact that I am older than he is that I won, his stamina while impressive, was no match to mine, it was a fight of attrition, had he used his haki to also attack rather than block my attacks, and we both used the same sort of swords, I would have lost at worst or come out to a draw at best. No daughter, he was not bragging, he was just telling you the truth."

The only thing the daughter wanted to know what exactly are they going to do now? Simple, they going treat all the students and make sure they live, until Kuina said she was talking about the two who challenged their dojo, her father laughed and simply said that is what he said, they lost so now they are students of their dojo, so they need to take care of them, make sure they recover, and live to continue their training, not that it would require a hell of a lot of work, many were just knocked out, a few hours of sleep and they would be fine, and those two were mostly exhausted, again, sleep would take care of that, and some water couldn't hurt, no what he meant was for them to check if they have any bleeding injuries, seeing how there was any blood of the floor told them nobody was bleeding.

She asked her father why make these two students, they challenged them and planned to either hold their dojo plaque for ransom or destroy it, so why make either of them students, he just laughed and told her that he hasn't had someone whom he could fight as an equal in a real long time, and if he became his disciple, maybe he can become strong enough to actually give him a fun fight, the same thing for his sister, he told his daughter she would be someone she can work hard to match and eventually fight together, grow strong, a good rival was beneficial to both and could be considered something wonderful to find.

Both Zoro and his sister were recognized for their talents and welcomed by the other students, even allowed to live with the Master and his daughter, Zoro would sneak out at night and begin doing things when he thought nobody would notice, such as repairing things in the dojo, from stairs to flooring, windows, and parts of the ceiling, the thing, however, was that it didn't go without notice, one of them even said that they were secretly afraid to walk down certain stairs because they feared they would trip or fall, but those parts of the dojo were slowly repaired and the Master and his daughter knew who had done so.

Kuina asked her father why would Zoro after spending a day training would do this rather than rest? Her father could only guess, it was either to make amends for challenging their dojo and losing, or it was simply a random act of kindness.

As Zoro woke up the next day, he found himself sleeping in a bed in the dojo master's home, he knew this because of his memories of being his disciple.

The master was waiting for him or maybe he was just waiting for breakfast to be finished by his daughter Kuina. As he saw Zoro he immediately greeted him, but he was having a small problem, one thing kept bugging Zoro.

As he walked up to his master he decided to ask him about this strange feeling he got from when he fought against his master. "Master you know about all forms of Haki, which to me it means you have them too, so why didn't you use them during our fight? If you had, I would have lost in a couple of minutes."

Koushirou was quite amazed that his new student could figure this out when none of the other people would have noticed, "It is quite simple Zoro, because if they saw me using Armament and Observation Haki, people would bug me day after day for me to teach them, and I don't need the added stress, teaching a person how to use haki is not simple, and you know it. Even if I wanted to teach someone how to use Conqueror's Haki, it can't be taught and must awaken within a person on their own. The number of people that can even use that Haki is extremely low. In my dojo I teach swordsmanship, I didn't want people to think this was a Haki dojo."

Zoro could understand how would people misunderstand, and why his master had done that, he also got the feeling his master didn't want to humiliate him with a quick defeat. However, this was something that he needed to correct, "If you could teach your daughter, Kuina, and my sister Sonia, how to use Haki, they could become a proper challenge and help me get stronger. I got the feeling that Kuina thinks she could never master the sword since she is a woman, this hampers her development and which is why I refused to fight with her, she was no challenge to me at all."

Koushirou looked at Zoro and asked him why does he need that, does he plan to become even stronger? Why would he need that much strength in the first place? Zoro explained that he promised a friend that he would go with him to the New World, and knowing how much stronger enemies he will meet there, Zoro mentioned that he needs to get as strong as possible.

"I honestly hoped that my daughter could see that any person can master the sword, especially after fighting your sister Sonia, but I guess that is not something so obvious, very well, I shall teach both Kuina and Sonia how to use observation and armament haki, but only them, and only if you agree to become my personal student. I know well of the dangers of the new world, and I am amazed that you and your friend plan to go to such a dangerous region."

Zoro decided to shock him even more by telling him something else, "It is more than likely that my sister will go with me, and by extension, your daughter Kuina will want to come with us, I know I am asking for something that you wanted to avoid, but I feel that it is necessary."

Koushirou told him it was no problem at all but as his personal student the training regiment he will have to do is much harsher than any that the other students of the dojo have to do, plus, they will need to live in his family home, to keep the haki training secret. As long as Zoro agrees to do that, he had no problem doing that.

Zoro agreed to the special training regiment, he knew it was a master's training regiment, which would feel like murder to the other students, but his need to become stronger was more important than any potential fear.

As breakfast was finally served in the family dining room, Sonia and Kuina helped set the table, oddly enough they seem to get along a lot better than before. "Thank you for making breakfast Kuina, but there is something we must discuss before we eat, do you still think only a man can master the sword? Daughter, I have told you time after time, the wife of Dracule Hawkeyes Mihawk is a master of the sword, some even say she is even tougher than her husband Hawkeyes himself. I should know I met Lady Lilith. The sword is a tool, the art of swordsmanship is to use that tool in combat, to protect, and as such anyone can learn to do that. There is no reason at all a woman should not be as good as a man, like I said his wife is considered by many to be even stronger than her husband, and he is the strongest swordsman in the world. "

As the day finally came closer and closer the mayor of the island settlement arranged for a small single-man ship to allow Luffy to begin his adventure and try and achieve his dream of becoming the King of the pirates. He knew that eventually, he would meet someone he was actually expecting to see, his little buddy Coby.

"Luffy many people have been trying to find the one piece, and some even think that Rogers was pulling that idea straight out of his own ass before he was executed, are you sure that you want to go out to sea? Many ruthless bands of pirates honestly give pirates a bad name by everything they have done."

Luffy told the mayor not to worry, he will return for the rest of the crew once they have a proper ship, as he got on board the small row boat that he was going to use, and then finally the mayor asked him what makes him so sure that he will succeed, Luffy pulled his cheek and it stretched to comical proportions and lets go.

"Why am I sure, cause I have the power of a devil fruit, I have the power of a god, I have the power of the Hito Hito No Mi: Model Nika. As such I have unlimited freedom, as such I am free to pursue my dreams. Makino and all the other crew members of the Straw Hat Armada knew exactly what they had to do."

As the crew watch him begin his journey they knew deep down that they will see their captain again soon, so they decided to continue the advice Luffy gave them about how to properly train.

If anything this reminded him that travel on the ocean is amazing and he could find all kinds of things on and beneath the sea is true, thanks to the fact that none of the devil fruit users no longer have the weakness to water, unless the water is their weakness by the very the element their power represents. He could go down to the depths of the sea and find all kinds of amazing things, fish and other creatures that may look horrible but actually, when cooked properly tasted amazing, Makino taught him how to prepare and cook seafood.

If he had anything to complain about is that traveling like this by himself was boring him to tears, not to mention it was extremely lonely, he wished their island had a much larger ship available but he knew better, the island where he grew up was poor, and giving him that rowboat was extremely generous.

"Well, not all is bad, at least I know where the hell I am going, I should meet the Alvida Pirates in a couple of days, I guess I have to climb into this old wine barrel to still pretend to be one of the wine barrels that cruise ship left behind, to lighten the load on the ship and allow them to try and get away from the pirates. It will be pretty hard for me also to see how Alvida looks like right now, knowing how she ends up looking, and how hard she came after me."
