"WEH?!"
King had a rude awakening to the sound of a noisemaker. He snapped up on all fours and looked around until looking up to spot Luz, her friends, and their Owl family under a banner which read "HAPPY BIRTHDAY KING"
"Surprise!" they shouted.
"Huh?" King said, calming down. "It's my birthday?!"
"To be a bit more accurate," said Eda, "it's the anniversary of the day I found you. Close enough, I suppose."
"Feliz cumpleaƱos, hermanito," said Luz, scooping him into a hug.
Amity pulled out a cupcake from behind her back and held it in front of King. "Go ahead, make a wish."
The young Titan took the cupcake, closed his eyes for a minute, then blew out the candle and then cupcake in a single bite. As Luz put him down, Eda then stepped forward and handed him a small box. King unwrapped it, and found a brand new collar, the tag engraved with the initials KC. Overjoyed, he immediately put the collar around his neck and gave the Owl Lady a hug. "This is already more than enough. Thanks, everybody."
"Oh, we're just getting started," said Luz, leading him to their new portal door. "You and I are gonna be spending a whole day in the Human Realm!"
King's eyes lit up. "REALLY?!"
"Yep!" Luz nodded, and Gus stepped forward, holding a bracelet with a smooth gem on it. Luz then held up a photograph of a young boy, which Gus then scanned with the gem.
"Here's your concealment stone, buddy," he said while handing the bracelet to the young Titan. King put it on his wrist, and poofed into the spitting image of the boy in the photo save for his jaundiced red eyes.
"I look like you!" King said, pointing to Luz in amazement.
"This a picture of my Dad when he was about your age," she said, pointing to the photo. "That way, if anyone asks, you can pass for my cousin or little brother!"
King squeaked in delight and threw his arms around Luz again. Eda walked over and placed her hand on Luz's shoulder. "Don't keep him out too late, ok? You won't wanna miss the party."
"We'll be there, Eda. See you later!"
After waving at their friends and family, Luz and King went hand in hand through the door to Gravesfield.
King could barely contain his excitement. A whole new place to explore, and a whole day to spend with his favorite human/friend/sister. Together, they made their way to the park in the center of Gravesfield. For a while, Luz stood by and watched as King played on the equipment and spent some time with human children. It was a relief to see his more aggressive tendencies had faded since she last watched him at the Slayground in Bonesborough. The important thing is he was having fun with other kids his own age, which he didn't spend much time doing in the Demon Realm. Then, she took him to the zoo. It was mostly without incident until they got the giraffe enclosure. After grabbing some corn dogs from a food vendor and a stuffed animal at the gift shop on the way out, they took a walk around Gravesfield, stopping at Camila's vet clinic where Luz had a bag waiting for them. The two of them finished the day at a baseball field playing catch.
As the sun was setting, Luz and King returned to the shack where Eda was waiting for them.
"Thanks a lot, Luz," said King. "This is has been the best day I could have asked for."
"I had fun too," said Luz, "but I've still got one more gift for you. Give us a hand, Owl Lady?" Eda smirked and pulled out a pair of memory tweezers, and Luz closed her eyes tightly as she stuck them in her ear, and pulled out a photograph. Eda then passed the photo to Luz, who handed it to King. "Happy birthday, buddy."
King's eyes widened at the picture in his hand. It was another Titan just like him, but bigger, with wings, and wearing Eda's 'Bad Girl Coven' T-shirt. His Dad. Tears in his eyes, he pulled Luz down to his level and put his arms around her. "I loaf you guys."
Luz chuckled and returned the hug. "We loaf you too, little bro. Now lets get you to that party."
And with that, the human, the witch, and the young Titan joined hands and stepped through the portal back to the Boiling Isles, closing the door behind them.
