Chapter 8:
Twilight The Last Alicorn
On the glacier wall, another chunk has broken off as two sections fell down from the glacier dam. Pinkie was watching while Twilight and Rainbow Dash continued on as Pinkie turns to them and hurries to catch up.
Later on, the Mane 3 followed the others as a trio of Reindeer rushed by.
"Someday, when you've gone extinct. When you make a stink…," Pinkie said, singing about extinction and trying to get Twilight to talk about it, but it only made her more and more upset. Sometimes Pinkie didn't really think. She wasn't trying to hurt Twilight's feelings, but she hadn't fully grasped what the concept of extinction was.
"Be quiet, Pinkie," Twilight demanded.
"Ok," Pinkie said in slight fright.
Later at night, The Mane 3 were staying on the trail as Pinkie started singing again.
"Stop! Hey, hey. What's that sound? All the Alicorns are in the ground…," Pinkie sang as Twilight shook her head in exasperation.
"Stop singing, Pinkie!" Twilight shouted, now getting annoyed. It was like Pinkie couldn't take the hint.
The next morning, they are still on the trail and are still on the move as Pinkie for the third time started singing again.
"If your species will continue, clap your hooves. If your species will-," Pinkie sang as she clapped her hooves.
Twilight was now starting to lose it and warned Pinkie Pie as she was on her last nerve and said, "Pinkie, sing one more song about me becoming extinct again and you'll be extinct,".
"Come on, Twilight. You usually love the classics," Pinkie noted as Twilight snorted and kept walking.
Later on, the Mane 3 were in a forest as Pinkie started kicking a small rock, Twilight stopped and turned to some icicles hanging from a rock. Her reflection is cast on several of them, almost like there were a lot of alicorns standing in front of her. The idea of being the last of her kind had been nothing but an annoyance at first but now it was starting to get to her as an actual fear. Her species was responsible for a lot of magical accomplishments and knowledge, what would happen if she truly is the last Alicorn.
"But then again, what if every creature is right? What if I really am the Last Alicorn?" Twilight asked, wondering sadly.
"Come on, Twilight, look on the bright side. You still have us, your two bestest friends in all of Equestria," Pinkie said, gesturing to herself and Rainbow, trying to cheer up the mare.
"Not sure if that's gonna help her feel any better, Pinkie," Rainbow Dash commented as she walked behind her. She wasn't trying to be mean, but sometimes it was best to leave things alone.
Suddenly a distant sound was heard and Twilight heard it too. As they listened, the sound almost resembled a whinny.
"Could it be what I think it could be?" Pinkie asked as a smile formed.
"Alicorns?" Rainbow Dash asked, getting a good feeling too. Twilight did a little prance.
"I knew I wouldn't be the last one. It might even be a stallion," Twilight said, spreading her wings at Pinkie as the pink Earth Pony held on. Twilight honestly hoped it was a stallion, every time she saw Shining Armor and Cadance together she always dreamed of someday having what they did with her own stallion.
Twilight then took off running as Pinkie climbed onto her back and Twilight uses her magic to move two trees aside. Rainbow Dash hurried after them. Pinkie was struggling to hold onto Twilight as she runs through the forest.
"Twilight! Whoa!" Pinkie yelled as she quickly ducked her head, nearly missing a branch as the excited mare just kept running to the sound.
Rainbow Dash jumped over a log and quickly caught up to them as another whinny was heard and Twilight quickly turns to the left as Rainbow Dash skids to a stop and follows her.
"Extinct, Cheerilee? Yeah right," Twilight said, having a good feeling about this. If she could bring back at least one or two alicorns she would prove that the Alicorns weren't extinct.
Pinkie jostled on Twilight's back as she held on.
Rainbow Dash soon caught up to them again as Pinkie rode Twilight like a jockey.
"And she's coming around the corner. And she's up by a couple of fifths, and she's ahead by a horn. Oh, and she's beating Rainbow Dash as Rainbow Dash coming around the corner," Pinkie said like a race commenter as they ran through the bushes.
Twilight saw what was making the sound and skidded to a halt as Pinkie was thrown off her back. Then Pinkie hits the ground and skids to a stop as she turns to a flower in front of her by a log. Suddenly a gust of wind blew through the log as Pinkie ducked and saw a Black Bear on the log with a very bad stomach ache.
"Sorry, my stomach hates me," The Bear moans.
Pinkie got up and backed away holding her nose as she headed back to Twilight and Rainbow Dash. The former had a crushed face and the latter had a disgusted face as she stuck out her tongue with a "Blah!".
"Well, it's no wonder they didn't put that "stink" in extinction," Pinkie said in disgust, her voice pitched from her nose being covered. But Twilight looked down as she started walking away.
"Sheesh! Whoo. That's nasty," Pinkie wheezed as Rainbow also scrunches her muzzle in disgust.
Rainbow Dash then turns to Twilight walking away with her head down. Pinkie Pie noticed Rainbow's change of gaze and turned, seeing Twilight's heartbroken face.
"Hey, Twilight, are you okay?" Pinkie asked in concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just…need to be alone for a while. You two go on ahead and I'll catch up later," Twilight said softly, as she walked away.
She then mutters to herself as tears built up in her eyes, "Just alone, that's what I'll always be. The last Alicorn," Twilight gives a sniffle and continues walking off sadly. Rainbow and Pinkie watch as their friend disappears through the trees.
Author's Note: It would seem that during their journey to the boat, Pinkie Pie has been teasing Twilight about her being the last Alicorn. But although it was annoying at first, Twilight was starting to believe that perhaps it might be true. But when the Mane 3 heard something, they rushed off to see if it was another Alicorn, probably a stallion. Unfortunately, it turns out to be just a bear with a really bad stomach ache.
Seeing that she truly is the last one of her kind, Twilight then started wandering off, needing to be alone for a while.
Looks like Twilight doesn't want to be a loner anymore, especially when it comes to being the last one of your species.
Let me ask you readers something, do you think it was really nice of Cheerilee to tell Twilight that Alicorns are extinct and that she's the Last Alicorn?
