Chapter 9:
Miscreants
"One truly is the loneliest number," Pinkie Pie commented, watching her best friend leaving sadly. Neither she nor Rainbow Dash could ever hope to feel what it was like to be the last of their kind.
Rainbow sighed, "Come on, Pinkie, we should just give Twilight her space," She suggested as Pinkie nodded her head in reluctant agreement. It was truly a sad sight.
But as the two Ponies started to head off, they were hit on the head by two small pebbles.
"Hey, Ow!" Pinkie yelped, holding her snout in pain.
"Ow! What the?!" Rainbow said as she looked up.
In a nearby tree, two female Possums were hanging upside-down on a branch and had a reed stalk as one of them laughed.
"Wow, these things do work great," The first female Possum said as she and the other one blew pebbles at Rainbow Dash, hitting her on the head.
"Cool," The second female Possum said.
Then they looked down and saw Rainbow Dash leaped onto the side of the tree and lunged upward at them as they quickly moved to avoid her hooves and dropped down. When they made it to the ground, they transformed and revealed themselves to be Changelings.
One Changeling was a brilliant azure-colored and her mane and tail were a very pale cerulean.
The second Changeling was a pale light grayish heliotrope color and her mane and tail were a moderate purple color with a lighter purple and pale light grayish aquamarine streaks.
"Miss me, miss me, now you gotta kiss me," the light grayish heliotrope Changeling mocked blowing a kiss to them as she and the azure Changeling leaped up, transformed into gophers, and fell down a ledge. They loved making a little mischief.
"I'll get'em!" Pinkie Pie declared chasing after them as she dives over the ledge and a dust cloud appeared.
Pinkie's head was stuck in a hole and as she struggled, the two transformed Changelings appeared in two separate holes near her.
"Hey, Starlight. Which end is up again?" The first Gopher with dark violet eyes taunted.
Pinkie Pie managed to finally free her head shaking some dirt off her.
"I hide that face too, Trixie," Starlight, the second Gopher with moderate Persian eyes, said.
Pinkie scowled, "Hey!". As she turned to Starlight and lunges at her, the gopher-transformed Changeling ducked inside the hole.
"Hey, Poofy!" Trixie said as she shoots another pebble at Pinkie's rear.
"OW! Hey! I got to sit on that!" Pinkie noted rubbing her behind, as she then lunged at Trixie, but the Changeling ducked and appeared in another hole as she said, "Yoo-Hoo!".
Pinkie lunges for her again as Starlight appeared, "Hi there!" She waved.
Pinkie smiled and waved back, "Oh hiya!" She said before she attempts to bang her hooves on her as Starlight also ducked down. Then Trixie appeared again and Pinkie tries to hit her as she ducked down as well. Quickly, the two transformed Changelings quickly popped in and out of the holes as Pinkie keeps trying to hit them as if she was playing a Whack-a-Mole game. Which to an observer would be funny.
"Gotcha!" Pinkie said, lunging for Trixie as she ducked down again and slammed both her hooves on the hole.
Laughing was heard as Pinkie looked ahead in shock and saw the two transformed Changelings at the other two holes laughing at her. That is until two cyan hooves appeared behind them and Starlight froze with her eyes widened, "Uh-oh," Trixie muttered fearfully as she and her sister looked up.
"Boo," Rainbow said with a smirk.
The two Changelings shrieked and ducked down as Rainbow Dash hooves stomped over each hole. Then Trixie leaped out of a hole and shoots a pebble at Rainbow Dash's face as she ducked down, and Rainbow Dash tries to get her.
"That's it! I'm going in!" Pinkie said, rushing in.
But Trixie has transformed into a cobra as Starlight, still, a gopher, held on to her tail, and Pinkie Pie tripped over her long body and tumbled over to Rainbow Dash.
"Pinkie!" Rainbow said angrily.
"What?" Pinkie said obliviously.
The two Ponies were hit in the face by pebbles as they turned to the Changelings and lunged at them as the two Changelings ducked down from them.
"Nice Miss!" Trixie said, jumping out of a hole.
"Cover your side, Rainbow!" Pinkie noted, covering the hole to Rainbow's left.
"The Great and Camouflaging Trixxxiiiieee felt a breeze in that one," Trixie said as Rainbow Dash tried to get her with her left back hoof.
"Hey, Smile," Starlight said to Rainbow and blew a pebble at her face as Rainbow Dash tries to get her. But Starlight ducks back down into the hole.
The two Changelings ducked in and popped out of the holes, shooting pebbles and taunting the two ponies as Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie tried to catch them, and it looked like they were playing "whack-a-mole" and "Tangle-up". Starlight blew a raspberry at Rainbow Dash and Trixie bounces on her head, messing up her mane.
"Outta my way, Rainbow!" Pinkie called, moving under the Pegasus.
"Pinkie!" Rainbow said as Pinkie Pie slammed her hoof over a hole.
"Hello," Starlight said, greeting her while popping out of the hole and dropping back down as Rainbow tried to get her.
"Looking for some Changeling?" Trixie said.
Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash tried to get her but they bumped each other's heads. Somehow they got caught in an entanglement with each other's legs and bodies. Trixie joins by Starlight, as the two ponies struggled to untangle themselves, "You two, surrender?" the latter asked.
"Never!" Pinkie and Rainbow answered in unison, scowling at the Changelings.
"Very well then!" The two transformed Changelings said in unison as they dropped down into the hole and Pinkie and Rainbow Dash tried to find them.
"Smoke 'em!" Starlight said as she and Trixie leaped out of the holes.
Everything went slow-motion as Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie looked up and saw the two Changelings inhaling deeply and then firing pebbles at them as they hit Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. Trixie and Starlight dropped into the holes and the two Ponies started to slip and hit the ground still tangled as the reed stalks also landed on the ground.
"What just happened?" Pinkie asked in a little disbelief.
"If Twilight or any creature ever asks us about this, say there were 50 of them, and uh, they were…Anacondas," Rainbow Dash demanded as Pinkie Pie just smiled uneasily. This was probably the most humiliating defeat either one of them ever experienced.
The two Changelings appeared on top of a hill and transformed back to their original appearance, laughing.
"Here, my little Pony, Pony, Pony," Starlight taunted shaking her flanks at them.
"You're making a big mistake, you Miscreants!" Rainbow Dash yelled at them as she and Pinkie Pie got free and stood up.
"Wait, did she just call us, Miscreants?" Starlight asked as she and Trixie laughed some more.
"Um, Rainbow. I think they're Changelings," Pinkie Pie corrected her in a whisper.
"I know that!" Rainbow Dash said with an angry glare.
Trixie and Starlight mocked them some more by transforming themselves into chickens. Rainbow Dash whinnies as she flies towards them at fast speed.
"Retreat!" Trixie yelled as she leaped into Starlight's arms and Starlight turned to see Rainbow Dash coming right at them and screamed.
The two Changelings turned into cheetahs and ran off with Rainbow Dash flying right behind them with an angry whinny as Pinkie bounces after them.
Author's Note: Looks like Rainbow Dash and Pinkie have some very tricky and trouble making Changelings to deal with. Especially when it comes to them acting like Miscreants. But while Rainbow and Pinkie are busy doing that. We'll be going back to see how Twilight is doing and I have a feeling she's gonna be in for a big surprise...
