Chapter 21:
The Dam Breaks
Twilight and Rainbow Dash have soon made it to the top of the rocky ridge as Pinkie drags herself up and panted because she was exhausted because she had to walk the whole way up. It was times like this she wished she had wings.
"We made it, girls. The boat," Twilight said as they looked up to see the boat.
When they arrived, they saw that the other ponies and Equestrian creatures continued to head for the boat as two Vulture Griffons circled over them. The others in the back of the herd were hurrying along as some of them were having distinct conversations.
"Do not leave your children unattended before boarding. All unattended children will be flushed away," a Vulture Griffon said, calling out as he flew off. While it seemed like helpful advice any creature with half a brain knew that is what they were hoping for.
Twilight, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash immediately started to search the crowd for Flash, Trixie, and Starlight.
Twilight approached a green Dragon and asked, "Excuse me, have you seen a male Alicorn?".
"No, sorry," the Dragon replied, shaking his head.
"Excuse me, have you by chance seen an Alicorn stallion?" Pinkie asked, walking up to a Giraffe.
"Sorry, dear. But I haven't," the Giraffe replied, also shaking her head.
"With two Changelings, both about this tall?" Rainbow Dash asked an Earth Pony.
"Uh-uh," the Earth Pony replied, shaking her head as she moves on.
Close by, Twilight went up to Applejack and Big Mac, who is carrying a cart, and tapped Applejack on the back.
"Hey, Applejack. Have you or Big Mac seen a male Alicorn?" Twilight asked.
"Depends on what this feller looks like," Applejack said.
"He has a brilliant gamboge coat and blue mane. Have you seen him?" Twilight asked.
"Sorry, Twilight. But I'm afraid I haven't. Have you by any chance, Big Mac?" Applejack asked, turning to Big Mac.
Big Mac scratched his head before shaking it and said, "Uuuuuuuh, Eenope,".
"He's gotta be around here somewhere. Come on, Pinkie, we gotta keep searching," Twilight said as she and Pinkie headed off.
"I hope Twilight does find that other Alicorn," Applejack said to Big Mac.
"Eeyup," Big Mac said in agreement while nodding his head.
As the two Earth Ponies were about to move on, there was suddenly a gurgling, cracking, and icy rumble as they listened and heard it. Everyone came on alert. A pair of Giraffes have also heard the icy rumble as they looked around nervously and soon everyone in the herd froze as some of them had nervous expressions on their faces, and some gasped in surprise as they listened to the rumble.
At the other end of Equestria, the glacier dam made heavy cracks as it looked like it could break at any moment now.
At the nest, still unaware of the danger signals, a pair of paws grab hold of the rim of the nest as Scrabbit looked around and beamed as he sees his carrot and hurries over to it. But before he could grab it, Scrabbit looked around first to see if he is alone, and once he knew it was safe, Scrabbit grabs his carrot and hugged it.
Suddenly a loud squawk was heard as Scrabbit held his carrot behind himself and looked around as he looked up into the air and sees the mother Vulture Griffon flying off with her chick in her eagle front limbs. The chick then drew his front eagle arms across his neck while making a gagging sound.
Another icy rumble was heard as Scrabbit heard it and turned to the cracked glacier dam as a section of a few pieces shifted forward and Scrabbit's ears limped. The ice chunks continued to shift some more and Scrabbit didn't even like the looks or the sounds of it. Then Scrabbit turns and sees a piece of ice breaking off as water spews out. Scrabbit turns to another section and two more pieces of ice broke off as two more jets of water spew out of the glacier wall.
Another section breaks off as water jets out and a large section broke off as a larger jet of water gushed out.
Scrabbit turns back to the glacier wall in front of him as a wave of water hits him and he screams and the glacier dam finally breaks apart as a thousand tons of water gushed out and parts of the ice wall broke off and water heavily gushes out of the glacier and flows.
The flood has been unleashed.
The swell soon grows in size as it rushed off, heading in the direction of the boat.
Within seconds, the wave waves over Ponyville and then the rock with icicles as trees were knocked down. It appears nothing could withstand the power of a million tons of water roaring across the land like a tsunami.
Scrabbit screams helplessly as he was in the nest and it was carried away by the flood.
Meanwhile, back at the ridge, Twilight, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash were still looking for Flash, Trixie, and Starlight while the others were still heading for the boat.
"I don't see them anywhere, Twilight," Rainbow said.
"Maybe they're already on board the boat," Pinkie suggested.
"Maybe but-," Twilight tried to argue.
Suddenly, before she could finish the ground started to tremble and shake as everyone froze and looked around while some of the others trembled from the tremor-like earthquake as a Unicorn held his nervous daughter close. The force of the shake was strong enough to cause rocks to break off as parts of the ridge came loose and collapsed on the ground as a group of Equestrian creatures gathered and looked down.
Everybody remained still for a moment before realizing what's happening and they all screamed as they started to make a run for it to the boat. They immediately knew what that meant: the flood had been unleashed.
"Hurry! Come on, this way! Get going!" Twilight yelled, escorting the others to the boat.
Elsewhere, Flash, Trixie, and Starlight ran through some rocks which they hope is a shortcut for they still haven't made it to the boat yet. But Flash soon came to a stop and noticed something ahead.
"There it is!" Flash said, looking at the boat ahead of them.
"Flash! Help! Whoa!" Trixie said as she avoids a few falling rocks.
Flash gasped as a huge boulder above them came loose and comes falling down towards them. They screamed as they ducked down and the boulder crashed over them on some rocks on their left and right, preventing it to crush them. Flash soon saw that and looked back only to see two boulders suddenly crashing down and blocking their way back. Seeing that, Flash and his Changeling sisters quickly made a run for the opening.
"Come on, Come on, Girls, run!" Flash yelled as they kept running.
As they hurried towards the opening, Flash then saw a boulder coming down and they are forced to stop and it hits the ground in front of them. The shaking soon stopped as Flash and his sisters saw they were trapped. Flash started to use his magic and Trixie and Starlight transform into Elephants to try and push the boulder, but the rock wouldn't budge for it was too heavy.
"Push!" Starlight said, still pushing the boulder along with Trixie.
Flash, Trixie, and Starlight kept pushing but Flash saw it was no use until he noticed some light and saw a small opening above them with sunlight peeking through it.
"Trixie, Starlight, turn into Puckwudgies," Flash said to Trixie and Starlight.
Trixie and Starlight did what they were told and transformed from Elephants to small Puckwudgies.
"So, now what, Flash?" Starlight asked.
"Now you two need to go get help," Flash said.
"But we're not leaving you," Trixie said firmly.
Flash then grabs them with his magic and lifted them near the hole as he said, "I'm not asking. I'm telling,".
"Flash, no!" Starlight cried as Flash shoved them into the hole and pushed them out the other side.
Trixie and Starlight fell out of the other side as they transformed back to their original appearances and got back up as Starlight yelled, "Flash, don't worry! We're going to get help!".
"Stay here!" Trixie ordered.
"Like I got a choice!" Flash retorted from inside.
Trixie and Starlight quickly rushed off to the rocky ridge as fast as they can to find help for their adopted brother as the trail leads to the ridge where all the other creatures were still running.
Further away, the flood continues following the path, while spreading all across Equestria at the same time. It then suddenly swept over the ice lake, scooping up the ice floes on it as it added the water to its mighty wave.
Under the water, Adagio, Aria, and Sonata were swimming with the current following the flood as it swept across the lake and grew closer to the boat.
This was the moment the Sirens have been waiting for. Adagio and her cohorts immediately swam up and started following the flood as it swept across the land and grew closer to the boat as the Sirens growled and hissed fiercely in determination as they swam off, ready to have payback with a certain Alicorn mare.
Back at the ridge, Starlight and Trixie finally made it to the ridge as shrieks and screams filled the air. The two Changelings started running all around pleading for someone to listen, "Help Us, Please!" Starlight shouted, jumping over the stampede.
"Our brother is trapped!" Trixie yelled to the ground-based creatures but they were too busy panicking and running to the boat.
"Please Somecreature Help!" Starlight cried, leaping onto a Yak but no one was listening, then Trixie saw somepony who would help, "Twilight!" She said, pointing ahead.
True to her nature, Twilight was standing in the middle of the stampede making sure everyone was getting to the boat, and hoping Flash and his sisters would show up. And said sisters were rushing through the fleeing crowd towards her right now.
"Twilight!" They shouted, getting the Alicorns' attention as they avoided a collision with a Dragon and ran right in front of the Alicorn.
"Starlight? Trixie? Where's-" Twilight tried to ask but the two Changelings interrupted her, speaking each other's sentences.
"Twilight," Trixie said.
"It's Flash," Starlight added.
"He's trapped in a cave!" Trixie finished as she points back to where the cave is.
Twilight gasped in fright. If Flash is trapped, the flood could get to him first! And then she would lose any chance of-. She paused and then realized the two of them being the last Alicorns didn't matter anymore! She loved Flash, he was the bravest, funniest, and kindest stallion she ever met, and more importantly, he was her friend.
And you never abandon a friend.
With a determined look on her face, Twilight galloped in the opposite direction of the stampede, almost replaying the moment before she met Pinkie and Rainbow Dash when she was going in the opposite direction of the migration after she lost her family. But this time she wasn't wandering to someplace to escape her own grief but dashing to save the one she loved.
Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, who were close by, overheard what Starlight and Trixie said, and when they saw Twilight rushing off to save him, they followed close behind them. Twilight turned to the two in surprise that they would risk their lives to help her. Rainbow just smirked and winked while Pinkie gave a toothy grin as she bounced, telling her that no matter what they stick together. Twilight smiled in gratitude as they picked up the pace!
Trixie and Starlight quickly made it to the bend and waited for Twilight before they hurried as Twilight follows them with Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie right behind them. The group ran until the rocks and the blocked cave that Flash is trapped in came into view and Twilight saw it. But then Twilight turned to the horizon and to her horror, she saw a huge white cover of foam, which is the front part of the flood, heading towards them, fast!
They all watched as the flood was coming and Twilight's eyes widened. The Flood is here. And if she doesn't rescue Flash soon, they are all gonna be dead. Twilight knew she has to hurry. But what she didn't know was that in the wave, there were three creatures looking for some payback…
Author's Note:
Looks like Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie have finally reached the boat and caught up with the others. But even when they have reached the boat, the Mane 3 asked the others if they have seen Flash and his Changeling sisters, to which they replied 'No' and 'I haven't'. This has gotten Twilight, Rainbow, and Pinkie concerned about their new friends. But finding Flash and the Changelings is just one of the problems they have to worry about...
The real problem is the glacier dam that looked like it was going to burst at any moment. Scrabbit, of course, being unaware of the danger, managed to grab his carrot and hugged t. That was until he saw the Vulture Griffon and her chick flying away from their nest and Scrabbit has just found out one very good reason why they left. Icy rumbles and cracks were heard and before Scrabbit even knew it, water began spewing out of the glacier until the entire wall of ice collapsed and...
The Flood Has Been Unleashed!
Back at the ridge, the Mane 3 were still searching for the Changeling Siblings but they have to put that on hold for they felt the ground below them starting to shake like crazy. The ground shaking, rocks crumbling, and part of the ridge falling off, all these signs tell the others that the flood has been unleashed as they began screaming and running for their lives to the boat with Twilight escorting them.
At the same time it was happening, Flash, Starlight, and Trixie appeared to not have arrived at the boat yet, and worst of all, they have become trapped in a cave. But Trixie and Starlight managed to transform into Puckwudgies and Flash helped them get out of the cave. The two Changeling Sisters ran off to the ridge to find help for Flash before the flood comes.
But the flood is not the only problem and danger. Under the waves of the flood, the Sirens are swimming along with the currents and are ready to have some payback with an Alicorn mare we know.
Starlight and Trixie have made it to the ridge just in time as they searched the stampede to find help. But everyone was too busy panicking and running to the boat to escape the flood. It wasn't long until Trixie spotted Twilight in the middle of the stampede and the two Changelings ran towards her and informed the Alicorn that Flash is trapped in a cave and needs help.
Not wanting to lose Flash like she lost her family, Twilight has decided to head to Flash's aid with Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash following right behind her to help. By the time they saw the cave Flash was trapped in, they also saw the front part of the flood approaching them fast, which means they will have to hurry...
Will the Unusual Mane 5 reach the cave before the flood comes?
Will our heroes defeat the Sirens who are wanting some payback?
And the most important question of all...
How will they defeat the flood?
