For The New Spider-Man
Someone once told me that…"you can't do everything on your own. Whenever you're having a difficult or even an easy challenge, there are times when you need help. To know what to do and how to do it." I learned that from my dad, and my cousin. Two of the bravest and strongest men I ever knew. Though they are no longer around, I know that their legacies are being carried on by me. Like how Peter Parker carried on his Uncle Ben's. But I know he hasn't done it alone. Just like how I know I'm not doing it alone. I've got many friends by my side, as well as hope.
Far away, in a dark spacious cave, there were no lights and no sounds, other than droplets of water. Just a natural environment, plus a few floors of metal near the wall. Then a shadowy figure appeared in the cave, and snapped his fingers. Lights suddenly came on, brightening up the room a little more, and revealing the figure to be an adult male. A tall man, wearing brown jeans and a black sweater, with a short beard and dark brown hair. He walked across the floors, and soon approached a chair…and a massive computer monitor.
"Cosmo on." He said in a faintish voice.
The monitor activated, and it revealed a blue desktop with multiple files. Many of which involved one thing that the man knew of as "New Spider-Man."
Suddenly, a voice from the computer spoke up. "Hello Ryan, how are you doing today?" It was the voice of a girl, and it revealed the man's name.
Ryan smiled, saying, "I'm doing good, Cosmo. Just checking on Bradley's progress once again." He browsed through the desktop, before reaching one file, containing video logs of a "Project MM." Ryan smiled again, and said, "Looks like he's definitely doing well."
The computer, known as Cosmo, responded, "He's been doing great since you first recruited him. How long ago was that again? Eight years?"
"Thirteen, actually. But close. And I don't doubt that. Ever since he chose to be Spider-Man and completed his training, he's really been stepping up more everyday. Showing better responsibility than how I think I did when I started out."
"Oh come on. From the way I've seen your files, I believe you were great. Sure, you've had your fair share of mistakes and challenges, but you made it through like always. Don't forget, you're the reason why many of the heroes today were inspired to become who they wanted to be. Plus…you know…I'm sorry for how this may sound, but maybe Bradley Morales would've gotten farther in his work as Spider-Man if you were able to…continue training him."
Ryan stopped looking through, but froze for a second and sighed. "Cosmo…you know why I can't do that. If I allow myself to get into physical combat of any kind like I did those years ago, the spell will eventually take its toll on me."
"All these years, and you're sure there hasn't been anything to break the spell?"
"I'm sure. Believe me. Me and the team have looked for many years, and ever since that stunt Rhino pulled, I don't think the world has finished rebuilding. So if there was a solution it likely got destroyed. But nonetheless, I'm good where I am. I'm still helping Bradley, he's pretty much graduated from the training days, and I'm making the best of my regular life, just like how he's making the best of both lives. And sometimes, I forget how difficult that was. Because that was my life…complicated." Then Ryan and Cosmo remained silent, and Ryan continued looking through the video logs.
The logs were recordings made from Bradley's mask. Bradley Morales was the New, New Spider-Man after his mentor, Ryan Parker. Through the logs, Ryan looked at many of his protege's exploits. The times when he stopped robbers, new super villains, helped the team out of bigger dangers, helped solve vital mysteries, and even swing around New York City just for fun. Seeing them made Ryan proud of the good Bradley was doing, and hoped he would do well with carrying on the legacy he stood for. But at the same time, Ryan also thought about how far he came since he started out as Spider-Man. How the legacy of his heroes really began. He thought to himself…
My name is Ryan Parker, and I've been the New Spider-Man (now former) since I was twelve years old. The reason why I became Spider-Man started when I was so young. In the year 2026, the United States as well as many other countries were being overrun by criminals. Mobsters, gangs, and many more would invade and attack places they never should have. It was chaos. Until a new kind of chaos began when the governments of the world created a special registration act where everyone would need to be watched and guarded over by a new system called the "Public Eye." In this system, every citizen would still go about their lives except they needed to be kept under surveillance, twenty-four seven. And certain distractions like most pop-culture media would be banned. This way, if any crimes were being committed, they would be more easily caught and brought down. Not only that, there would be no more fair trials or anything that made the system what it used to be. Though crime was at an all-time low around the world, and many things may have seemed peaceful, it was a life of oppression.
Including for me and my family. I was an only child to two loving and responsible parents, Michael and Marie Parker. Though it was hard, they were able to help me grow up right in a life like this. I learned a lot from them, even how to remember what the world was like beforehand. It was never perfect, but at least people knew how to develop peace the right way. But then one day, on a drive to school, there was a car accident where my family and I got badly affected. My mom was hurt, and she could not walk anymore, and my dad (from what the Public Eye told us) died. It made things tough for us. When I was twelve, I still went through the same life. At home, I would help my mom, and at school, I had good friends but there were bullies that picked on me and never seemed to be affected by the Public Eye at all.
Back then, I always thought that was how my life was gonna turn out. Until another fateful day came in. I learned from my dad how to stay off most of the Public Eye's…well, eye. So I usually still did that while coming home from school, because I never trusted the program. Many kids at my school even believed that the whole thing was created by criminals to begin with. Hence why I always tried to play it smart and safe. But on said fateful day, while coming home, I found a box filled with comic books. All about the amazing Spider-Man. I found it and was fascinated, so I brought the whole thing home. I hid the comics at home from my mom and made sure the Public Eye never knew either as they were part of the banned media. I read through all of them for days, learning from them, and seeing that they were not worthy of being banned. Instead, they gave me a new perspective. A good one to make me notice how all over my town of New York, there were still crimes going on. Some of which the Public Eye haven't even stopped…or not get involved in. It made me believe that the rumors of my classmates could be true.
So from the realizations and the comics I found, I eventually decided to do something about it. With all the training my dad gave me to stay off the grid, all the studies in my school's science, and all the acrobatics I went through…I decided to become my own Spider-Man. The New Spider-Man.
I made my own costume, my own web-shooters, and trained myself harder to make sure I was ready. Then when I was…I did it. I used all my skills and smarts to stop both a robbery and a bombing, and it was awesome. Scary, but awesome. I stopped a bunch of crooks, and saved folks from getting hurt. The people seemed grateful, but when the Public Eye arrived, they tried to apprehend me before I successfully got away.
Again, scary but awesome, and from there, I didn't stop. I used what I had to stop more crime and did it better than the Public Eye. Though the agency and politicians didn't support me, the people still felt otherwise.
Overtime, my work even inspired others to do what I was doing.
First, it started with my cousin, Michael Reilly, from Texas coming to town. Making me think he was coming over for a casual visit. Though really, he was a rookie agent that supported the Public Eye and thought Spider-Man (who he didn't know yet was me) was a loose cannon. So he dressed up another masked vigilante, called Spider-Teen, for the Public Eye and set up a trap to get my attention. It worked, and they got close to capturing me, but eventually after revealing myself to Michael, he decided to stop. He helped me avoid them, and I convinced him to stay and help me face criminals, as well as solve some mysteries going on with the agency.
From there, I had many more friends that eventually joined the fight with us.
Alice Stacy, my best friend and eventually girlfriend, became one of our first allies. And she was first among us to gain real super powers of her own. Like me, she and many of our friends made themselves heroes based on and inspired by the many characters we loved. While I was Spider-Man, Alice was Cosmo, based on Gwen Stacy, Nova, and Gamora. And she inspired me to eventually create the AI for my whole computer network.
Nicholas Alexander, aka Fury Jr. A silent kid who became a teammate that was full of surprises. Based on Nick Fury, Hawkeye, and Phil Coulson.
Max, aka Max Rider. A kid who really knows what it means to be a fighter. He hated the Public Eye, worked as a born rebel, and was inspired by the Ghost Rider, Raphael, and Casey Jone.
Daken Kong, aka Don. The tallest and strongest member of our team. Based on Donkey Kong and Hyperion.
Will Caesar, aka Ape-Man. A hunter with an unbreakable spirit. Based on Man-Ape, Kraven, Caesar, and Knuckles.
Stevi Romanoff, aka Captain Widow. A hero who likes nothing but trouble. Based on Captain America and Black Widow.
Abigail Wayne, aka Night-Bat. A girl who knew fear, but never gave up because of it. Based on Bat-Girl and Night-Man.
Drake Blake, aka Thor. A strong and smart kid that believes in hope, not power.
So because of the work that me and Michael did together, it made quite the difference in the world. Many people questioned the Public Eye's goal, and younger folks wanted to take action. As well as form a team to do it. It was thanks to what we did for everyone that made all the change, and it was great. But it was never easy.
Before, and even after, developing this team of heroes, I had to manage balancing two lives. I had to keep my other life hidden from mom to keep her safe. I had to avoid showing any opinion on Spider-Man, and only trusted so many friends. Specifically the ones that were inspired by him and their heroes. We went through many adventures together, and I went through my fair share of solo-adventures. It was difficult. Especially when the Public Eye thought that I actually was a man with powers, wanting to use me to create an army, and hired many villains to find and catch me. And the villains I faced were also no picnic.
Harold Connors, aka Lizard Boy. A poor disabled kid who had a different view of life, and was thought to be more sinister than any of my other foes. Like the villain that inspired him, he mutated himself to become something more and it worked. In another life, we could've been friends but he just never accepted the fact that there are good people in the world.
Venom, aka…Venom. Like Spider-Man, I had my own inner demon to fight when he came in. A genetically engineered monster of black goo, designed to bond and capture me. As well as eat me alive, and technically it didn't even need a host. It just needed to destroy me.
Rhino, a mercenary with no alias, hired by the Public Eye to also bring me down. In my opinion, he was considered the biggest brain of the baddies. And when it comes to villains, brains and brawns are not the best combination.
Walter Osborn, aka Dr. Goblin. Someone who was also once smart and dangerous. He made many attempts to stop me and my team. He was even the most obsessed with figuring out whether I had real powers or not. Until he one day mutated himself into a mindless monster, one with nothing to carry or even control him except for these mechanical arms he had. He was indeed vicious, but eventually became a forgotten memory after my team and I defeated him.
Robert Dillon, aka Electro. An arrogant kid who wanted to become like me, and unfortunately he got his wish. I never had powers but I knew how to become something more, and he found his own way. He became somewhat of an anti-hero that cared about glory and violence. Which made him a real adversary.
Erick Bound, aka Magneto. Someone who admired the work of both me and Walter Osborn, but became corrupted by getting the wrong idea of my cause. He desired to become a terrorist amongst everyone, making him a threat to both me and the Public Eye.
I've had many threats to face against, but I also had a team of friends that never let me down, and I've tried my part to ensure I do just as good for them. So in the beginning, I became a superhero, wanting to bring back hope and true protection to the world. My adventures helped me gain new perspectives, new skills, and new friends to fight side-by-side with. Through the time we even had some stories that became more memorable than the previous one.
This one time, my team and I became popular over the work we did, and I let the fame get to me a little. It made me feel like more of a one-man show than a hero. A mistake that I paid for by having to fight Walter Osborn, to stop him from terrorizing my home more, and that is what led to him becoming "Dr. Goblin."
It also made me realize why my team and I needed to do better with staying together. To protect the people.
After that adventure, things started settling down a little bit. Until I discovered a really shocking twist. Turns out, all the rumors I heard about the Public Eye being corrupt, being led by crime bosses were true. They corrupted all the governments by making them think crime was completely out of control, convincing them that their idea "The Public Eye" was the solution.
Really, it was just a scheme to help all criminals become rich and powerful in secret. And my dad, the man who taught me how to avoid their grid and to remember what the world was like before, he knew it. He knew about the Public Eye's evil secrets, and he was the leader of a rebellion that wanted to stop it for good. He tried figuring out how, and had one final strike plan. Until the Public Eye somehow got onto him, and decided to capture him by making him disappear. They hired thugs to create that car crash, and they kidnapped my father, making me and my poor mother think he was dead.
Before discovering that though, with the help of my team, we decided to make our final strike by infiltrating the Public Eye main center base outside of NY, and not only discovered that my dad was still alive, but we rescued both him and his fellow rebels. At the same time…we took down the Public Eye.
My cousin Michael gathered information regarding the program and downloaded it on the internet, making the governments and people of the world see the truth. Resulting in the Public Eye being shut down forever. And giving all of us, my whole team, a reason to celebrate.
Six months later after that, unsurprisingly, there was not too much evil to face anymore. The Public Eye was gone, Dr. Goblin and his business was destroyed, and all that was left were low level enemies like street thugs. It seemed like it was totally peaceful, especially with the world being restored to normal. Heck, since Mom and Dad reunited, things have been great for us. Even though it shocked Mom when I finally told her that I was Spider-Man. Nonetheless, things were great.
So everyone, including myself, felt there was no need for heroes anymore. We thought there would be more time for peace. But we were wrong.
Eventually, a new group of young folks showed up, claiming they had powers of their own and wanted to create a new version of the Public Eye. One that would make everyone think that it would be the good system that they thought it was, but my team and I knew it wasn't the case. So we worked to take them down, and it proved to be an even more difficult adventure, while also proving they were frauds too.
In the end, we saved the day by stopping them…but I lost Michael. My cousin sacrificed himself to save us from the evil metahumans, which led me and my team into a world of grief.
In fact…it made me want to quit being Spider-Man, and I did. I gave up the mantle, and even the comics, not wanting the life of heroics anymore. It even convinced all of my friends to quit too.
Ten years later, we got older and were still retired. Me and my team, the former young heroes of hope, were somewhat no longer young. Ever since we lost Spider-Teen and quit, everyone in the world believed that hope was something that didn't need to be fought for anymore. So they created a new government system, nothing like the Public Eye, but one that was much more truthful. Something that didn't require masked vigilantes or heroes. So my friends and I pretty much moved on with our lives, until after so long, there came a need for us to reunite again.
Multiple gangs of young criminals formed up again. They terrorized New York and wanted to do even more damage than our old enemies did.
Cosmo, Fury Jr, Max, Thor, Don Kong, and everyone came together, and convinced me to let go of the past. Making ourselves come together as a team again to save the world once more…but it wasn't for the final time.
We later defeated our new enemies, but in the end, the people and the new world government were not happy with our reunion. It created the "Heroes v The World" incident.
In this next adventure, while we stopped our latest enemy, the world thought we were the next ones. Making them set up a new kind of registration act that required me and my friends to be kept under watch if we wanted to proceed with our work. Thankfully, none of us agreed to that. It was no different from the original Public Eye itself, so we opposed it, and eventually we stopped that too.
The price, however, wasn't easy to pay.
During the battle, we fought a new villain who was an actual live wizard. He put a spell on me, one that was capable of injuring the inside of my body every time I engaged in any kind of physical combat. But that didn't stop me. I still tried helping my friends, and we took down so many new villains. Especially the Rhino, who was behind the whole incident to begin with.
In the end, we stopped him…but I got hurt, and so did one of my friends Ape-Man. In the end, I died getting blasted off of our helicarrier. Or so the world thought.
The spell almost took its toll on me, but I needed something to convince the world that my team was more than capable of doing things on their own. Enough to work together to protect people, and not rely on corrupt governments. From there, the government was remade and controlled by honest leaders, former members of the team. And as the world thought I was dead, it was our turn to help a new generation of heroes start, including with the recruit of "Project MM."
Bradley Morales was that recruit, and though it was difficult for him at first…he has done more than enough good work. He became the New, New Spider-Man. He saved many people and became very resourceful. I trained him, and so did the rest of my friends, and together we still became a team of heroes. And for years, we still haven't stopped.
That's my life…complicated.
Ryan thought to himself the whole story of his life. His superhero life at least, and even pictured them in comic book illustrations. Trying to make himself think of it as something more exciting. Until he heard a sudden cough, and looked to see it was Cosmo (the computer), saying, "Ryan? You okay, you still there?"
So he shook his head, rubbing his eyes, and said, "Yeah. I'm fine. Just thinking."
"For ten whole minutes?"
"Of course. We-we weren't talking, so I decided to focus on my thoughts."
"Right. Anyway, I was trying to ask if you're sure. About Bradley? Are you sure he's done and ready? Ready to go on without your training?"
"Absolutely. Like I said, he's pretty much graduated from his training days. I say he's been a better Spider-Man than I could ever hope for. In the future, there will be times when he needs help. Even help from me, but for now, I say he's still doing good. As for me…I say I like being Batman nowadays."
Ryan chuckled a little, but didn't hear a response from Cosmo. Making him think it was another sign that she agreed with him, and as he looked away from the remaining video logs, he continued his thought process. Thinking more about his story, beginning to think about what would happen next.
What would be next for himself, or Bradley Morales? What would happen next for the legacy of Spider-Man?
Suddenly…Ryan stopped thinking as light appeared next to him. Some bright blinding blue light came off, and made a large sound of wind blowing. It made Ryan step off of his seat, and block his eyes.
"What the?" He yelled. "Cosmo, what's going-" He intended to shout out a command in case it was an intruder. But before he finished, he noticed a new figure appear from the light. It looked like…Spider-Man.
Spider-Man walked out of the light, and he looked strange to Ryan's eyes. Unlike the one he knew, this Spider-Man had his costume as dark red, and the blue color replaced with black. Even his eyes. He looked like a more serious variation, as if it were superior.
He looked straight at Ryan, and said, "Mr. Ryan Parker? My name is Peter. If you don't mind, I'm in need of your help. I'd like to talk to you and your protege."
Ryan was surprised by this sudden event. But stood still, and felt the need to listen. Thinking that the future he was hoping for was about to start.
More Notes & Disclaimers:
• "Bradley Morales": He is an OC, based on Miles Morales, and the name possibly came from the time when the actor Bradley Pierce voiced Miles "Tails" Prower.
• "Public Eye": Originally I called it the "UWPA" (Universal Watch Public Agency), but then decided to choose a more familiar name. This Public Eye is based on the police force that fought against the 2099 Spider-Man. As far as what "Shattered Dimensions" showed.
• "Overtime": This is where the events of the show would take place.
• "This one time": This is where the events of the first movie takes place.
• "Six months later": The events of the second film.
• "Ten years later": The events of the third film.
• "Heroes v The World": The events of the fourth film.
• "superior": He says he's Peter Parker, but in reality, he's the Superior Spider-Man.
I feel like I should've written this a long time ago.
Hi everyone. I understand that that story might've been too long, and perhaps confusing, but I hope I did well enough to make it sound interesting. I also hope you liked the characters and the reference at the end. Another idea of the Spider-Verse coming together.
Now about this story…if you haven't seen it lately, I want to inform you that this isn't my first Spider-Man fanfiction. I published another one a couple years back and it had the same title. It also had the same story, but in this version, it's described differently. In the form of an actual story describing what the character, Ryan Parker, went through.
In the last version, it was also mentioned how I was interested in having someone write this series. I've seen some authors respond, saying they liked it and/or wanted to write it, but now I wanna say…thank you guys for showing interest. However, at this point if you haven't already written your version of "The New Spider-Man," let me assure you that is okay and it will no longer be necessary.
Thanks to my "C's Summary Collection" idea, if I want to fully make the series myself, I know an easier way to do it. It can also work for the other fanfiction projects of mine that I may not be interested in too much anymore.
Though if you guys have already made your version a few years ago, know that that's also okay. You can keep those variations. So thank you again for your interest, and I hope you and anyone else who's reading this find the idea cool.
The series of a boy being inspired to be a new kind of hero. With that in mind, allow me to share some other news.
As you know, today is the 4th of July, Independence Day. The day where we not only celebrate the anniversary of our country's foundation, but also honor and show gratitude for the freedom we have in our lives.
I'm grateful for the fact that I have a home with many people who are good to me and a country filled with selfless heroes. In history, and even today. Even sometimes fictional heroes that inspire us to be creative and brave in our trials. I'm glad I have my creativity, and that my fellow writers have theirs too.
Whatever you guys are doing this Independence Day, I hope you and your families have fun with it. Just know that I'll be continuing my story writing and media publishing at my own pace, and I hope you like what I have next. Plus, if you have any questions at all, and for those who have left questions during my last published story, know that I will try to answer them in my next publication.
Remember, on FFN, I will publish at least 1-2 stories per month.
