AN: So, I've read the reviews and I can't say anything except you guys are right. I can see how The Spot becomes vengeful in spite of Spider-Man since Spider-Man continued to get more popular and praised while The Spot got everything taken away from him, as he had to spend his life being discriminated against after him becoming The Spot. What I'm saying is, I can see him being mad at Spider-Man causing him to lose his family, life, friends, job, etc. Though I do agree with the reviewer, Zek, that what caused him to snap was Spider-Man taking him lightly, not even considering him a threat and not even the "Villain of the Week."
AN2: The reason why the Spot was so hateful and vengeful at the beginning was that everything and everyone he had and knew was taken away from him suddenly because of him being sent to another planet/dimension(Not going to spoil it). Though, I do plan on making The Spot lose interest in taking revenge on Spider-Man since The Spot's main goal is to return to his planet/dimension. Though I'm still deciding whether to continue that goal, cause I do want to empower him with a collider, but that won't be until very long from now. The reason why he won't be using the collider will be shown later in the story, well, it's more like he can't.
AN3: I'm still deciding whether or not to include the actual Spider-Verse into the story or not, since the reviews about the subject are correct about it not fitting into the setting, and It's not because The Spot will lose attention from the story, there are workarounds with that, but because I can't see how the RWBY verse would fit into it, without messing up their set plot lines and/or ignoring the RWBY's plot line. Either way, I'm still deciding. If I can't make up a good draft for the Spider-Verse and RWBY verse tangling, with both stories moving forward in the plot, then I'm probably not going to do it or might do it way later on, so that people who are here who just want to read The Spot and RWBY can enjoy the beginning chapters and a decent chuck in. I might try new stuff further into the story though.
Well, hope you enjoy the chapter.
The Spot
"Pfft," Ruby tried holding back her laughter, "The Spot?" She said before letting out a bellowing laugh while she rolled on her back.
I grumbled. I thought it was a great name, what else am I supposed to call myself, spotty? That sounds like a name you'd give to a dog.
"Hey, I thought it was good, but if you've got anything better then I don't mind hearing you out, well, I probably won't since I'm already kind of attached to the name The Spot already," I said
She looked at me, raising an eyebrow, "Isn't that a name that you just came up with on the spot?" Ruby said, she stood in silence for a moment before moaning, "That was a pun…" She groaned, "I think Yang is finally rubbing off of me."
She got back up from the floor, dusting herself off.
"I thought that was pretty funny, but, to answer your question, yea, it was a name that I came up with on the spot. But I feel like it fits me perfectly, just look at me," I said as I opened my arms, exposing the spots all over my body.
"Plus, isn't your name Ruby Rose, you've got a black and red getup, along with a red scythe, and the tips of your hair are red," I paused, "Wait, the tips of your hair is red, how does the even work, you dyed it or something?" I asked.
She shrunk as I got closer to take a look, "No, it's all-natural, I got it from my Mom."
"Ohh, that's a nice visible physical genetic mutation," I said in awe, "Sadly, I lost all my hair once I turned into this, though I wish I could've kept at least that," I paused, "You think those hair growth brands would work on me?" I asked.
"Um, yes?" She said with uncertainty.
"I hope so, but if not then that's alright, I've always wondered how I would look like when I became bald, though I wasn't expecting this."
"I really should go now, my friends are literally getting chased by a giant mech right now," She said with an awkward tone.
"Wait, wait! Since we're buddies now, shouldn't I come with you now?" I asked before continuing, "Plus, haven't you heard the saying 'your friends are my friends' so, in a way, I wouldn't want to see them hurt either, even though I don't know them, I don't want to see them hurt. Since they're my friends. Wait, that's only if we're friends, not buddies."
"We're friends, right?" I asked.
Ruby seemed hesitant at first before answering, like she was remembering something, "Yes?" She said slowly like she was expecting the worst.
"Great, so, let's go and save your friends." I said with glee.
"Um, right," She paused thinking of what to say, "not to be rude, but this is between my team and Roman, I don't want to get anyone else involved, and we should be enough to take him down."
"Ohhh," I said, "It's alright, I understand."
"I'll just sit over here," "on my couch," "alone," "by myself- as I watch you leave. Don't worry about me though, totally not bothered by it,"
"Okay…" She said, unsure of how to respond.
"Oh, there is one thing I do need help in," She said.
"Really?" I said in glee as I got up from the couch.
"Yep, and that's where I currently am, because you teleported us everywhere in Remnant, so I'm kind of lost," She explained as she scratched her face with a finger.
"Oh," My shoulders slumped, "Well, you're in Royalty Hotel right now, the finest establishment in the ci-" She interrupted me before I could finish, "Isn't that the hotel with a one out of five star rating? I heard it was a dump," She said nonchalantly.
"Yea, you're right, it is a dump," I lowered my head.
She winced, "I'm sorry, it's just, I've heard a lot of bad things about it, terrible lodging, expensive pricing, and a rat infestation problem."
"You're really making me feel better, rubbing salt into the wound as they say, you know, you could've just said that it was decent compared to other hotels," I said as I stared at her dumbfounded.
"Yea, but that would've been a severe lie like up to here," She stood on her toes as she raised a hand above her head, expressing how bad it is, "And I'm alright with lying about small things, but this isn't small at all," Ruby said.
"Yea, yea, I get it already," I said.
"Alright, just making sure," Ruby said, her eyes wandering to the door, "Well, it's time for me to go now, I've been here long enough, and my friends need me, so, cya."
"Cya, be careful out there, well, I don't think a person with a huge red scythe really needs to be careful, but be careful out there," I said as I waved her goodbye.
The door cried as it was opened, footsteps echoed as she ran down the flights of stairs. I stood alone in my room.
That was an interesting interaction, hopefully, I didn't do anything too embarrassing, since that was my first interaction with a person n' all, well, not really, there is the receptionist lady but she's not the best, maybe she'll open up to me later, who knows.
I walked towards the window, looking down, I saw Ruby run down the street heading towards the expressway. Bursts of speed every now and then as rose petals fell. I'm guessing that's her semblance. Semblances are interesting, considering that they're something else entirely from aura. It's the fact that semblances can be many things, what type of semblance you gain is an unknown.
My thoughts went back to Roman. Right now asking for help from Roman is out of the picture, he's getting chased by Ruby and her team, and I got a feeling he would ask me to hurt or kill people if I did team up with him, and that isn't something I want to do. Then there's the giant mech she mentioned, giant mech- wait, what if I used the giant mech as spare parts for the collider? But if they destroy it I would have to salvage as much as I can. Hopefully, they don't destroy the mech.
Alright, objective, follow Ruby to the giant mech and swoop in before they destroy it, sounds easy enough.
My arms flailed as I screamed as the wind cried past me, "This isn't easy at all!"
If you're wondering why I'm screaming, well, that's because I decided to follow Ruby via teleportation through the sky. I thought it was a good idea at first, but now that I actually execute it, it really isn't a good idea. But if I decided to run then I would be left way behind, wait, couldn't I have just teleported to the expressway?
The moon spun around me, or was it me spinning? I opened another portal which exited in the sky. I could just teleport to the expressway, but I wanted to learn how to use portals whenever I'm in the sky.
After opening a couple more portals, I finally regained my sense of balance. I looked down at the city a few hundred meters below me, a red blur ran across it. Ruby, she was getting closer and closer to the expressway.
I opened a portal that exited thousands of meters above the city. I fell at incredible speed toward the ground as the wind surrounding me got louder. Good thing I don't have any eyes since I would definitely be closing them tight if I did. I opened another portal and entering it, I found myself parallel to the ground, a few hundred meters above the city, heading straight towards the expressway, but this time way faster.
It's like how Spider-Man falls from high heights, but after he reaches his terminal velocity, he shoots a web while bringing some of that momentum forward, swinging him further ahead. That's basically the jist of what I'm doing right now, but without the webs.
Though, I don't lose most of my momentum since I can just teleport. I watched as the stars pass by, the wind crying, the feeling of air pushing against my skin. It was an amazing feeling. So, this is what skydivers must've felt when they first went skydiving or maybe every time they did. It felt amazing.
I looked down, I saw the expressway. I placed a portal in front of me and exited right on the expressway.
"Well, now that I'm here-" A car's horn honked. I turned around and I saw a car heading straight towards me.
I screamed as I tried stepping backward, falling over myself. Thankfully, a portal opened beneath me, and falling through it, I rolled onto the ground. I touched my body all around, making sure I still got my limbs. After the health check, I pushed myself up from the ground and standing back up, I found myself on a random building's rooftop. Why did I think it was a good idea to be standing in the middle of an expressway? Really, what was going through my mind? Probably the adrenaline from that mini-skydive, but still, I'm usually smarter than that.
I opened a portal, sticking my head inside. I watched from above the expressway, looking down as hundreds of cars strolled by, but further ahead people were jumping around on cars and two people on a motorcycle were getting chased by the giant mech.
I observed the mech, it's hard to say if it does have usable parts since I would have to look inside to see more of it, but if the mech does survive then I'm sure I'll have every part of the collider working. The problem is, Ruby and her team probably plan to destroy it since the only way to stop the mech is to destroy it or stop the pilot.
I watched the mech glide through the cars, throwing them up in the air. Tens to dozens of cars flew up or over the edge of the expressway. There were people inside those cars, something in the back of my mind said. Everything seemed to slow down, but why mention that, why mention the people in those cars, they're not my problem. When I first became this they never gave me a chance, nobody was there to save me, all I had was myself. Those people never even gave me a chance to speak for myself, my heart stirred.
They just assumed I was a monster at first glance, I mean, I don't blame them, but still, that kind of did hurt, especially when I needed help the most when I was lost in some forest.
Something itched in the back of my mind like I knew the obvious answer to why these people are different. My subconscious was right, but I wanted to deny it. These people are different, they're not the same people from that settlement. I know they aren't the same people from the settlement but what if they do become like those people, they haven't seen me yet, they don't even know I exist. Ruby popped up in my head, she was a bit hesitant at first, she found it odd, yes, but she never called me a monster or anything of sorts. But that was just her, there are tons of other people out there, tons of people who won't accept me.
I don't understand why I should care about them, why I should save them. I'm only here because of Spider-Man, they're not my people. I'm only here to just gather up the parts I need for the small-scale collider and then I'm gone. Even back then, the only thing I cared about was furthering my knowledge of the multiverse, teleportation, etc. No matter the cost. I stood in silence, watching the cars falling to the ground slower and slower till it all stopped.
My family flashed in my eyes, my wife, and my son. At one point, I thought I could sacrifice them too, for the better of mankind, for furthering my studies and research if I needed to. But I knew deep down, I wouldn't, even if it cost millions of lives in return, I just couldn't bare sacrificing my family at all. Even if they ended up hating me for killing millions of lives, I would bare with it, but one thing I couldn't bare was losing them.
So what, I thought to myself. None of these people are his family, they're not blood-related, they're not friends, not cousins or nieces, or anything else. They don't know me, they don't know how it feels to be shunned, to feel like an outcast. I never wanted to turn into this, I never asked for these powers. Now that I look so different from others, I have to turn to a life of crime because I knew nobody would give me a chance. Why should I care about those people?
I watched as the cars finally started to move again, ever so slowly. The cars inched closer and closer to the ground, it felt like ages, but I knew it was but just a few seconds. One good impact- not even, just any type of impact can kill the people in those cars, if not the impact, then definitely the other cars that will ram into them as they lose control, causing more deaths.
My eyes wandered inside one of the cars, staring straight through the window. I saw a family, a husband, a wife, and a son. My own family replaced them through my vision.
I was driving, the road ahead of me, giggles and laughs were heard throughout the car as I glanced back now and then, watching my wife play with our son. She had a toy T-rex in her hand as she played along with my son causing him to giggle. She placed the toy dinosaur back on our son's lap before sighing, she stared beyond the windshield, watching the empty road that we were driving on.
"You've been working a lot lately," she paused, and I said nothing, "You should find some time to spend with him more, he needs a father in his life, he needs both equally," She said.
"I know, just- give me a little more time, I'm almost done with the project I'm working on, just another week and we can spend as much time together as you want… as we want," I said, my wife frowned. I did want to spend more time with them, but because I'm working under kingpin, Wilson Fisk, I couldn't afford to be late or I might end up as dead meat.
But there was another reason why she was frowning right now. That's because I've been working on this project for months on months, yet she knows nothing about it, not a single thing. When you're working as a criminal you couldn't exactly tell your family that nor can you let any information spill since it could cost you your life.
So, I couldn't even tell my wife anything at all, I had to lie a lot, more than I'm comfortable with. It wasn't my fault. I just wish my work didn't interfere with my family, it was causing a lot of unnecessary strain. I wish she trusted me a bit more, then maybe I wouldn't have to worry about my family breaking apart.
But I know I can't do anything about it, I'll just have to deal with it as long as I could until I'm finished with the project. Then I can family spend as much time with my son as I want, with my loving wife. My grip on the steering wheel relaxed, and a small smirk appeared on my face.
My vision flashed to when I dropped off my family at the house. I didn't know it would be the last time I saw them, ever.
My house wasn't in the best neighborhood, but I couldn't do anything about it since my boss wants me to be as close to the base as possible, so I can spend less time driving to work and more time studying what he wants, finishing what he desperately wanted to achieve. He wanted a universe where his wife and son weren't afraid of him, afraid of what he had become. I felt his pain, as I have a wife and a son, and I couldn't imagine them being afraid of me, it would break me.
"I love you," I said.
"I love you too, sweetie," My wife said with a little strain in her voice. She held our son in her arms, he snuggled closer to her.
I frowned, but I gripped the steering wheel tightly, trying to ignore it. I glanced at my wife and son one last time before heading off to work, the car's engine roared throughout the neighborhood.
Remnant's broken moon.
I watched Spider-Man throwing multiple objects, buildings, and vehicles at the collider as the other Spider-people left through it. I threw paper off the desks, looking around the workplace frantically trying to find the container. The container that held the black hole, the project I've been working hard on for these past few months, the project that's been causing my family strain, the very thing I hated, the very thing I created, the project that the kingpin forgot about after figuring out he could use the collider instead. All my work felt like it's gone to waste, but I ignored that feeling.
I can still feel the joy I got when I was able to finally contain the black hole, not because I was able to contain it, but because I knew after I did, that I would be able to go back to spending as much time as I want with my family, no more working for the entire day, every day.
After I send it off to Kingpin, that's when I could finally relax, and take a break from working. But that wasn't the case.
After a while, I finally found it, the container that held the black hole within. I wrapped my arms around it as I tried to get out of the facility before it exploded, but I was too late, I wasn't fast enough. The container shattered, and a bright white flash covered my vision as the black hole wrapped around my body causing me to let out an agonizing wretched scream. Agony coursed throughout my body, it felt like I was going to explode as my blood boiled. But the pain left suddenly as I found myself in another place. The spot dimension.
Pitch black holes the size of cars suddenly appeared in the city's skyline. I opened tens of dozens of portals, the cars that were about to hit the ground went through them and were placed somewhere on a random road in the city. I felt my body straining itself, I watched as the black spots on my arms and body start to slowly disappear.
I wasn't sure why I was saving them, I'm supposed to be a criminal, a villain. Nothing more, nothing less. But maybe that's what I assumed I was, something I thought I would be because I was shunned by the people.
I shook my head but, one thing I knew for sure is that I couldn't just watch people die in front of me.
I glanced toward the giant mech, it was heading further down the expressway causing more mayhem as it sent more cars flying up in the air and off the expressway. I used the rest of my spots to stop the cars from impacting the ground, trying my best to save every single person, every single family, nobody should be left out like I was.
A large area of ice appeared on the expressway, it caused the mech to slip and fall off the expressway. Finally, I pulled my head back out the portal, as I rested on the rooftop.
I felt tired, but I wasn't.
I looked down at my arms and body, there were no spots left.
I was blank- just like a blank canvas.
I stared beyond myself, I wasn't sure of what I'm yet to become.
AN: Sorry for leaving you guys on a cliffhanger, kind of. But I'm just here to verify a couple of things. First, that flashback memory of Spot's family isn't canon, I just placed it there since it would fit perfectly there, questioning himself and his character in a way. But he does have a wife and son canonically. Sadly, I think this was after he became The Spot, his wife divorced him.
AN2: If you're worried about if The Spot will lose his power for now, don't be, he won't. How he regains his spots is different in the movie and comics, so, I'm deciding to stick with the movie since if I did the comic side it would give him more information on his power and he'll understand that it's more than what it seems. If you have any more questions then I would happily answer them. Though, there is one question I got a feeling you guys would ask after reading this chapter.
Will The Spot become a good guy? The answer to that is yes and no, he will still be a criminal, committing unlawful acts. But he won't be evil perse, for example, if he meets Ruby again he will definitely be friendly towards her and her friends since she never thought of him differently and she also saved him from a grimm even though she knew he was a criminal.
Anyways, that's about it, cya until then.
