Jerry trudged towards Green Gables at the usual hour and prepared himself for a typical day's work. Yet, something caught his attention in the barn, a speck of white lying with his slate and the rest of his belongings. He climbed up to retrieve the letter and read it word for word, relieved he could do it now. It helped that the letter was short and to the point, though deep down, he longed for a more challenging read.
Jerry
Meet me where we usually meet.
Four o clock, when you finish work.
Diana
Jerry felt his heart race at the prospect of a rendevous with Diana. Though he was also afraid it would be another heartbreaking encounter. Pocketing the letter, he set about doing his usual duties, washing Belle, cleaning the barn and assisting Matthew with repairs.
It's good he hadn't given Diana any more gifts to chuck on the ground...
Jerry shook his head and worked even harder at his tasks, using them as a distraction. Before long, he bid goodbye to the Cuthberts and headed towards the meeting place. He and Diana spent many an afternoon there, usually talking, holding hands, and even kissing.
He spotted Diana instantly, her blue dress and dark hair making her stand out amongst the green landscape. Then she captured his gaze with those dark, piercing eyes, and his insecurities bubbled to the surface. But before he turned around to save face, she walked towards him until they stood inches apart. Before he could react, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him, making him recoil in surprise at the sudden, uncharacteristic display of affection.
It took him a couple of seconds to respond to her kiss. His hands, which initially hung limply by his sides, slowly slid up to hold her waist. Though longing to embrace her, he touched her with extreme hesitance, fully expecting her to pull away in regret. To his surprise, she didn't. Instead, she kissed him even more passionately, reaching up to run her hands through his hair, and he immediately changed his mind about getting a haircut.
Jerry let himself relax and embraced her in earnest. He couldn't help but think back to the early days when Diana wouldn't even look at him, let alone talk to him. And now she was kissing the life out of him. How on earth did this happen?! But before he could lose himself in her kisses, she broke away, leaving them both flushed and out of breath.
"Oh, Jerry. You have no idea how much I've longed for this..."
To his concern, she looked troubled, and he hurried to comfort her the best he could. "What's wrong?"
"It's my parents. Well, my mother, more specifically. She's becoming an absolute nightmare! You have no idea how much I hate her guts right now! Anyway, let's not talk about that. Kiss me again!"
But before she could recapture his lips, Jerry backed away from her, feeling his heart shatter once again into a million pieces.
Of course, this was too good to be true.
"Jerry, what's wrong? Why are you pulling away from me?"
He pushed her hand away and dodged her attempts when she continued to reach for him. "Because you're just using me. Like how you were before."
"No—"
"Yes, you are!"
He crossed his arms to create even more distance between them. "If you're going to kiss me, do it because you have feelings for me. Not because you're angry at your mother and need a distraction."
Jerry turned to head home, but Diana grabbed his arm to pull him back. "Please, don't do this! Don't walk away! I thought..."
He shrugged away from her. "Thought what? You thought I'd tolerate being treated like a dog? Something to cuddle and then abandon whenever you feel like it!" He laughed bitterly. "Oh, but of course! Surely the poor farm boy who's never been to school and shares a bed with his siblings couldn't possibly have feelings of his own! Well, I do! I have feelings for you, Diana, though, I wish I didn't, and my feelings will not be toyed with!"
She gasped, and Jerry scoffed at it, using his tall stature to his advantage. "But I respect myself more."
Diana took a deep, shaky breath before preventing him from leaving again. "So do I. Why do you think I wrote you that letter asking you to meet me here? There are plenty of suitors I could've given it to."
Hesitantly, she reached forwards, and this time, Jerry didn't pull away when she took his hand in hers. "Why do you think I kissed you? I don't go around kissing just anybody, you know. Yes, I did it because I was angry and needed a distraction, but that's not the only reason. I also did it because I too have feelings for you. But it's your choice. It's your choice if you want to be with me, and if you don't then it's my loss."
Before he could blink, she left him alone, giving him time to think. It was when she was out of sight that he finally decided. His heart thumping in his ribcage, Jerry sprinted after her and caught her in his arms, bringing her in for another kiss. Diana reacted immediately and threw her arms around him again, laughing joyfully against his mouth.
Jerry didn't care if he wasn't sure he'd made the right decision. He could ponder about it later. For now, he had more pleasurable activities to occupy his time. Taking several steps forwards, he backed Diana against a tree and deepened his kisses. But before he could fully enjoy it, he needed to check if he was moving too fast. Though, he broke the kiss, only for her to pull him back in for more.
"Don't stop, Jerry," she whispered against her lips. "Only stop if you want to. As for me, I could not be more content, right now," and he kissed her deeper, unable to resist moving his hips against hers, loving the feel of her pressed against him. "Oh, please don't stop doing that…"
Jerry did stop, however, much to her frustration. "This is intense, is it not?" He couldn't help but think Diana was too proper to engage in such improper behaviour. Particularly with someone as low class as him. However, he was greeted to a sly, rather sultry smile, and he quickly realised he was the proper one here.
"It's thrilling! I've never felt so alive and free. I never want it to stop." Diana lowered her hands from his face to unbutton his shirt, causing him to gape at her, surprised by her boldness.
"Uh...are you sure?"
"Of course, I'm sure. Now stop worrying so we can enjoy this moment together." They exchanged another kiss and he felt himself shift slightly. Pulling away to look at her, he was surprised to feel her pushing at his chest. "I think we might be more comfortable if we…."
She gave him another gentle push, and they toppled to the ground, Diana falling atop Jerry, and they laughed at the awkward position. Their chuckles turned into sighs of pleasure when Diana moved her hips, continuing where Jerry had left off.
"Oh yes, this is much more comfortable. I like the view from up here." Jerry stared up at the goddess before him, who returned his awestruck look with a tender gaze of her own, before leaning down to kiss him softly. "If only my mother could see me right now. She'd have a heart attack."
"Uh…Diana?"
She rolled her eyes and pinched herself, a habit she'd picked up from a certain red headed friend of hers. "I know. I know. I won't talk about her anymore. I agree, right now should be about us."
Jerry paused for a minute before clarifying what he meant to say. "Actually, I don't think I'm ready for…this."
Diana stilled her hips and regarded him with concern. "Oh, of course." She lay beside him and linked their hands together. "Again, I agree with you. As much as I'd love to be with you right now, we'd better wait until we're married. Better safe than sorry, yes?"
Jerry nodded, but before he could doze off beside his girl, his eyes flew open, and he glanced sideways at her. "Married?"
Diana stared back at him with wide, sincere eyes. "Yes, married, my sweet Jerry. You're the only one for me, and I won't tolerate any less."
"But your parents..."
Diana snorted and snuggled into his side. "Let them sob in private. Speaking of which..."
She smirked at him, her eyes full of mischief. "Let's go tell them right now. I can't wait to see their reactions. What do you think?"
Jerry stared at her wide-eyed for a couple of seconds before rolling her onto her back for another deep kiss. She giggled against his mouth, and the engaged couple spent the next few minutes or hours remaining right where they were, feeling alive and free like they'd never felt before.
