"You know what?" I said as soon as I heard the door open, "I think you're right. We really need a break from each other."
And... That's when I noticed that... The girls were there, and they must have heard it based on the expressions on their faces!

Like... I had no words!
My life was definitely a joke!
Couldn't I have waited till Bella was in front of me! Why was I such an idiot!
And had I even figured out that the separation was something I really wanted? I mean, my thoughts were all over the place! Could I really trust myself at the moment?
Now how the fuck was I going to make this right!
"'Need a break from each other' means what?" Carlie asked as she walked towards me.
"You guys are getting a divorce?" Ness asked.
"What? No!" Carlie said.
I couldn't exactly decode Bella's expressions. She looked shocked, angry, hurt and sad at the same time!
"Ummm... No... We are not getting a divorce!" I said.
I didn't even think about the divorce... yet.
Carlie looked at both of us and then said, "You're definitely getting a divorce! Why?"
"No... I don't want you to get a divorce..." Ness said.
"But why? What is the problem? Can't you figure it out?" Carlie said, "And... Who are we going to stay with? Will they ask us? I want to stay with you, Dad!"
I sighed.

Such a mess this was!
"Don't tell me you're going to separate us or something!" Ness said to me, "Because I also want to stay with you!"
Bella looked extremely hurt and pissed off on hearing that!

"Don't come to me for anything from now on," she said to them in a strict voice.
"We were just joking, Mom!" Carlie said.
"Yeah... We love you." Ness said as she hugged her.

"But... 'Need a break from each other' means what?" Carlie asked.
Well, that was a good question, but I didn't know the answer to that myself!
"Look..." I sighed, "We have some issues... Every couple does... But that doesn't mean we are getting a divorce... We are... working on it..."
I was so mad at myself!
We hadn't even figured out how we would talk to girls about this, and I had to screw this up!
"So... Are you going to figure it out?" Ness asked.
"Ummm... Yes." I said.
"We will work on it and we will talk to you when we are ready," Bella said, "You don't need to worry about it right now, okay?"
"Are you sure?" Carlie said. It's like the seriousness of this situation was just hitting her as she looked like she would burst into tears at any moment!
"I don't want you to get divorced," she said.
