The Spirit of Sparta: Track 1: Sparta

With the Yakuza shut down and the League of Villains in hiding, the entirety of Japan held its breath, with a far greater strain placed upon the many heroes, even those at the various schools, most notably UA. For those students who attended, it had become a place of waiting.

There was little time for learning, little time for training. With only the annual culture festival to look towards, life had plateaued into a mundane, domestic life for the heroes in training, a life that centred around the various classes' dormitories.

Yet, as always, there was a single exception. A boy whose life had potentially grown heavier, fuller. That boy was, of course, Izuku Midoriya - the boy who carried the weight of the war on his shoulders, unbeknownst to his peers.

The students of Class 1-A had grown used to the green haired boy disappearing from the dorm for extended periods of time - sometimes as long as a week - for various forms of training, though none were ever told the specifics of these sessions, nor why they were specific for Midoriya specifically.

On one of the rare weekends that Izuku remained at UA, the class had decided to hold a communal dinner, to try and reinforce the solidarity within the class. Fate, however, had other plans for the class.

MMA

"Package for Midoriya."

Izuku perked up at the voice of the mailman, scraping his chair back as he scrambled towards the door, returning to the table with a medium size box.

"Whatcha got there Midori?" Ashido asked, leaning over his shoulder.

"Ah, eh, n-n-nothing," Izuku stammered, gently pushing the pink girl away from him, before gently slicing the tape sealing the cardboard. "J-just a response I've been, um, waiting for."

"A response?" Yaoyorozu asked, her index finger tapping her chin. "Wouldn't that come in a letter then?"

Izuku peaked into the box, hiding its contents from view, withdrawing a beige envelope. "Yup."

"Soooo…" Kaminari said. "What's in the box Midori?"

"Nothing!" Izuku repeated, quickly scanning the letter. Then he re-read it. "Yes!"

"Huh?" Ururaka blinked, cocking her head to the side. "What is it Deku?"

"Uh, just some good news," Izuku stammered, resealing the envelope, before sticking his head back into the box. When he withdrew, a small smile graced his face.

"Come on Midori-bro!" Kirishima complained. "It's unmanly to leave us hanging!"

"Sorry guys, I've got to go," Izuku said, getting up. "Could one of you drop this off in my room?"

"What, now?" Todoroki asked. "It's pretty late."

"Yeah, sorry," Izuku said apologetically. "I should be back by Monday… hopefully."

"Again?" Iida blinked. "I suppose your training is of supreme importance. Good luck, Midoriya!"

"Yeah… my training, right," Izuku mumbled. "Welp, I'd better get going. See yah!"

The students of Class 1-A watched as their classmate left once again, the cardboard box taking his place at the table.

"Dibs on not taking it!" Mineta yelled.

"No-one's asking ya, grape-fuck!" Bakugo spat. "Ya short arse ain't carrying that shit."

"Eh, I'll do it," Kaminari shrugged. "Wonder what's in it?"

"Why wonder?" Ashido giggled, running up to the box. "Let's have a peek!"

"Ashido!" Before she could grab it, Iida rushed in, grasping the box. "That would be a gross violation of Midoriya's trust in us!"

"Ah, come on Iida, loosen up!" Kaminari shrugged. "It's just a peak - he'd never know!"

"I agree with Iida," Yaoyorozu said, shaking her head. "We have a duty as heroes and as his friends."

"Aw, Yaomomo…" Ashido pouted. "Just an itty bitty look?"

"No!" Iida shouted.

"Yoink!" Hagakure shouted, presumably grinning, as she tore the box away from the class president, diving towards the living room.

"Whoo! Go Toru!" Ashido grinned.

"Hagakure!" Iida shouted. "Return that box this instance!"

"Nope!" Hagakure shouted back. "I'm having a look at Midori's… CDs?"

"Huh?" Ashido blinked. "CDs?"

"I didn't know Midoriya listened to music," Jiro blinked. "What genre?"

"Uh… dunno," Hagakure blinked. "Don't recognise any of them."

"Put them back!" Iida commanded.

"Relax, Iida," Yaoyorozu sighed. "The damage is done - and don't tell me you're not curious."

Iida sighed. "I suppose they are just CDs."

"Huh, I don't recognise this one either," Jiro admitted in surprise. "The Spirit of Sparta, anyone?"

"Nope."

"Nuh uh."

"Nah."

"Hang on…" Jiro said, blinking. "This is Midoriya's CD!"

"Yeah, we know that," Mineta snarked.

"No- this is Midoriya's CD!" she exclaimed, holding out the CD. The class peered at it, curious, making out a comic book style cover, depicting an Ancient Greek soldier wielding a rifle, emblazoned with the title, and above that, a name. A very familiar name. Midoriya's name.

"Deku… made music?" Ururaka blinked.

"Seems so…" Ashido blinked, looking in the box. "There's a ton more too, but their plane - sharpee only."

"Is this one… published?" Kaminari asked.

"Yeah, it's got all the details on the back," Jiro said, squinting. "It's due to come out next week."

"Ah, so he got a preview copy," Yaoyorozu nodded.

Iida frowned. "This feels like we are encroaching on Midoriya's personal property."

"Loosen up, Iida!" Ashido grinned. "Come on, let's have a listen."

"Have a listen to what?"

The class stiffened, turning to face the tired looking visage of their teacher, Aizawa.

"Uh…" Ashida said, sweating. "Midori's music?"

Aizawa blinked. "Problem Child makes music?"

"Seems that way," Jiro said. "He left a box behind full of a bunch of CDs, and a full on album with his name on it."

"Huh," Aizawa murmured. "Eh, why not."

"Sensei!" Iida protested.

"Shut up Iida," Aizawa muttered. "Now, put it on, will you?"

UA

Moments later, the entirety of Class 1-A were settled in the living room, Jiro's speaker taking centre stage as she carefully placed the CD into its tray.

"Okay, I'm going to press play in three… two… one…"

An ominous tone filled the room, steadily rising, before a burst of sound erupted, shocking the room.

"Not what I was expecting from the Cinnamon Bun!" Ashido blinked.

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

Kaminari blinked at the harsh sound of their classmate's voice. "Is that really Midori?"

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

"Sounds a bit like a rally to war," Hagakure commented.

"So violent," Iida shuddered.

MANY MANY YEARS AGO

WHEN PERSIA CAME ASHORE

HEEDING LEONIDAS CALL

THE SPARTANS WENT TO WAR!

The class blinked once again at Midoriya's gravelly tone as a guitar pierced the gap between verses.

"So it's about that old movie, what was it, 300?" Sero asked.

"The Battle of Thermopylae," Yaoyorozu said. "Where three hundred spartans laid down their lives to delay the Persian army to allow the rest to escape."

JOINED BY THEIR BROTHERS

A FEW AGAINST THE FATEFUL HORDE

HELLENIC HEARTS ARE SET AFLAME

THE HOT GATE CALLS THEIR NAME!

"I was not expecting Deku's songs to be about such violent topics," Ururaka said.

"The loser was always obsessed with History in middle school, especially pre-Quirk wars," Bakugo spat. "Ain't no surprise there."

A FINAL STAND

STOP THE PERSIANS, SPEAR IN HAND

FORM A WALL

LIVE TO FALL, AND LIVE FOREVER!

"This songs manly as hell!" Kirishima grinned. "You can really picture the strength of these Spartans!"

"The Spartans died, Kirishima," Ojiro said.

"Oh."

SPARTA!

HELLAS!

"Whoa!" Kaminari grinned. "And I thought he was harsh before!"

THEN, AND AGAIN, SING OF THREE HUNDRED MEN!

"Whoa, that was fast!" Ashido blinked.

"I knew it was about 300," Sero said, giving Yaororozu a smug look.

"300's based on that battle of Themothingy," Sato said, giving his friend a flat stare.

"Huh."

SLAUGHTER!

PERSIANS!

GLORY, AND DEATH, SPARTANS WILL NEVER SURRENDER!

"Is it just me, or is hearing Midori sing about stuff like this a bit disturbing?" Hagakure asked.

"Yeah, he's a total cinnamon bun!"

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

"He did it again!" Ururaka squealed.

"We can hear that," Aizawa drawled.

MORNING HAS BROKEN

TODAY THEY'RE FIGHTING IN THE SHADE

WHEN ARROWS BLOCKED THE SUN THEY FELL

TONIGHT THEY DINE IN HELL!

"Is it possible to block out the sun with arrows?" Kaminari asked.

"No, but it was a famous claim made at the battle though," Yaoyorozu explained.

"Hella manly though," Kirishima grinned.

BY TRAITOR'S HAND

SECRET PASSAGE TO THEIR LAND

KNOW HIS NAME

KNOW HIS SHAME WILL LAST FOREVER!

Kirishima shook his head as he wiped stray tears from his eyes. "So unmanly…"

"Dude, this literally happened thousands of years ago," Ojiro said.

"THAT'S HOW UNMANLY IT WAS!"

SPARTA!

HELLAS!

THEN, AND AGAIN, SING OF THREE HUNDRED MEN!

"I have to admit, this bit has grown on me," Hagakure said. "I can even pretend the cinnamon bun isn't singing about bloodshed."

SLAUGHTER!

PERSIANS!

GLORY, AND DEATH, SPARTANS WILL NEVER SURRENDER!

The verse changed into a clashing of thunderous sounds, quickly collapsing into a rapid guitar solo, shocking those listening.

"Midoriya's really good on that guitar," Jiro said in awe.

"Really good," Aizawa mumbled.

"This bit is fire!" Kaminari grinned

"Really embodies the manliness of those Spartans," Kirishima grinned.

SPARTA!

HELLAS!

THEN, AND AGAIN, SING OF THREE HUNDRED MEN!

SLAUGHTER!

PERSIANS!

GLORY, AND DEATH, SPARTANS WILL NEVER SURRENDER!

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

HOO, HA! HOO, HA! HOO, HA!

The song fell into silence as Jiro quickly paused just before the next song.

"That was…" Iida murmured, eyes twitching.

"Manly as hell," Kirishima nodded.

"Well, that was Sparta," Jiro grinned. "Who knew that Midoriya was a metalhead like me?"

"Jackhead, you're the expert," Bakugo spat. "How's it compared?"

"Brilliant!" Jiro grinned. "I'd love to add this to my playlist!"

"Tsk," Bakugo shook his head. "Tone deaf."

"Anyway, that's just the first song!" Jiro said. "The next song in the album is called…"

A/N: Welcome to chappy number 1 of my new fic, My Musical Academia! It's, quite clearly, a songfic, inspired by the brilliant fic, Cinnamon Bun's Music by Pixel's Fanbook. Like that fic, this Izuku has been a secret musician for a while, and has a plethora of songs for his classmates to stumble over. Unlike that fic, not all the female characters will be lusting after Izuku, and the genres of the songs will stay pretty much within the realms of rock.

All the songs featured will be real songs, though some might have altered lyrics and titles, though the albums are fictional, with songs compiled thematically. The first song was, of course Sparta by Sabaton from the album The Last Stand. Expect a lot of Sabaton, especially for the *Spoiler* three war based albums.

Welp, please fave follow and review, perhaps even give some song requests. And yes, I know, bit of an asshole move, but you have to wait till next week to find out the next song!

Bye!
