"Robert is dead." says to Durran, Robert's younger brother and Stannis' older brother. "You know what that means right?" Durran exhales and looks king's landing appearing in his view. The battle of the Trident was won but it came at a cost, Robert succumbed to his wounds after killing Rhaegar and hearing Eddard Stark tell him that Lyanna died was rhe the final straw.
"It means I'm the new king of Westeros,I must sit on that ugly chair and worst of all, live in this cease pit of vipers. Everyone in Westeros will be plotting aming at me now. Since I'm unmarried I bet they'll send their daughters to court and when I am off the market then they'll go Stannis . Poor Stannis I can already see his face scowling at the prospect of maiden's chaising after him." Jon laughed at the young man's antics.
Out of all the Baratheon brothers Durran was the one who spent most of his life in King's Landing and probably the one with the sharpest mind. His father lord Steffon Baratheon sent him to squire lord Tywin when the lord of Casterly Rock served as hand of the king to the mad king Aerys. Steffon and Tywin were childhood friends and he felt that since Robert went to the Vale perhaps he could send his brother to the Capital to complement his brother who was known to be reckless.
Being in the capital gave the opportunity to learn under great knights who were serving in the kingsguard such as The Bull Ser Gerold Hightower, Sword of the Morning Ser Arthur Dayne and The Bold Ser Barristan Selmy. When he picked up the sword, he took to it like a fish learnig how to swim. He was excellent with the blade but his greatest weapon was his mind. He was a strategist and tactician no one in Westeros had ever seen before.
Durran was the brains behind the fall of the Targaryen dynasty. He came up with strategies and Jon would confirm or work around them. Durran excelled in tactics, economics, geography, Tactical Warfare and planning. But most importantly how the Game Of Thrones was played thanks to endless lessons and lectures personally from Lord Tywin Lannister himself.
Durran was balance between his brothers Stannis and Robert . He was charismatic and could easily make friends with anyone he wished but he was firm like Stannis when he needed to put his foot down. He learnt from the old lion that when you're in charge you don't have to bark for people to acknowledge you. 'Actions speak louder than words.' Those were the words Durran lived by. He was firends with Rhaegar but when the man disappeared with Robert's betrothed, the said friendship ended.
"Surely you jest, Stannis seemed like a good lad what I saw." Durran nods and says "Good lad, aye. But my brother never smiles. Father even brought Patchface all the way from the narrow sea just to make him smile and it didn't work." They arrive the Capital and they are greeted with Tywins men who had secured the city and are led the Red Keep. There they find lord Tywin's men who had killed Elia and her children. Once Lord of Casterly Rock has sworn his oath, he proposes a match between his daughter and Durran something which makes Durran narrow his eyes as he sees the move Tywin was trying to pull.
Jon Arryn urges him to accept , Durran closes him eyes without uttering a word and rests his hand on his face and says " My lord I understand that the realm needs a Queen to stabilise however I have just lost my brother and I'm still grieving." He then closes his eyes before exhaling his breath and opening his eyes sharply " I cannot dive head first into marriage that is a recipe for disaster and I don't wish to be in a loveless marriage like the previous Queen and King. Look how that turned out, I will however ask you to send your daughter to court along with other single ladies who will be coming to capital so I may court her properly. Should the courtship yield fruitful results I'll write to you asking to marry her. As a good gesture of faith I'll also release your son from his vows and let take his place by your side as your heir since I'm sure all of king's landing will be pleased to know why he killed the Mad King." Tywin was shocked at the response, perhaps he taught this boy way too much. But no matter he now has Jamie back and his daughter wasn't outright denied he just has to make sure she succeds in winning Durran over . He bowed his head and said "Thank you Your Grace, I'll immediately send a raven to Casterly Rock." Durran simply looked at Tywin his face blank of emotions as he stopped the older man from leaving " However your men killed an innocent woman and children to secure my rule something which I will not tolerate and must be punished. I want both bandits calling themselves knights Amory Lorch and Gregor Clegane in chairs and ready to be sent to Sunspear by the time your daughter arrives to King's Landing. You willl personally write an apology to the Martells for failing to keep your men in check my lord. You're dismissed."
Tywin got up and left the room he was definitely pissed and everyone present saw it. Tywin did as was ordered as by the time Cersei arrived both bandits as King Durran called them were in chains. Jon Arry took the letter of apology with Lord Tywin's personal seal, Gregor Clegane, Amory Lorch, ashes of Elia,Prince erwin's and headed to Sunspear to try and repair relations with Dorne. Jon was successful as Dorne felt they got justice for their fallen kin and pledged themselves to King Durran.
When Duran saw Cersei for the first time he thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. The rumours of her beauty didn't do her justice. She deserved to be called the light of the Westeros not the west. However once he started conversing with her he didn't like what came out f her mouth. She was prideful, spiteful and believed everyone to less than her. She kept trying to hide herself behind trying to impress him by being fake, acting like she was interested in tales of the war.
Durran immediately told her that the next day he wants to meet Cersei Laninister , the real woman not the one who was hungry for power something he knew was Tywin's doing. It took a period of three moons for Durran and Cersei to actually enjoy each other's company and they got married much to the disappointment of a few ladies who had come to court to wooe the king. Stannis also married Mina Tyrell, after that he left for Dragonstone where found the Queen giving birth to Daenerys while prince Viserys escaped with Ser William Darry.
Upon Stannis's return to the capital Durran appointed him Lord Paramount of The Stormlands and Storm's End. Lord Hoster Tully, Lord Paramour of The Trident and the Riverlands. The houses Stark and Arryn were raised to be Prince houses. Jon served as hand of the King, Varys master of whispers, Stannis Master of ships, Lord Tarly of Horn Hill as master of Laws. He asked the Citadel for a new Grandmaester and made Pycelle retire. A younger maester from the the Citadel, Axell took his place as Grandmaester.
Durran also decided to raise Mya Stone, Robert's now Mya Durradon himself with young Daenerys as he wanted to win their trust with the hope that they'll marry his sons and end a potential succession battle in the future. Tywin was worried about the plan backfiring like most of his advisors on the small council. When he explained his reasoning behind his decisions Cersei accepted them and promised to raise them to be worthy ladies for her perfect sons.
The Queen assured her father that she'd raise the little girls to be loyal to her, her husband and the rest of the ruling family. The relationship between Durran and his Queen got really good after they got married They slept in the same chambers every night. During the day they take walks around the garden and always have breakfast together. He got her a seat on the small council and always seeks her counsel much to her delight.
They were falling for each other and when she gave birth their first son Daveth, their love grew and was blossoming. In the coming years she'd give birth to twin boys Edwyn and Martyn. Myrcella was born before the Ironborn rebellion, where Durran wiped house Greyjoy out, Pyke burnt to ashes and lay in ruin to remind all the Ironborn houses what the price for treason was.Lord Rodrick Harlow as the new Paramount Lord of the Iron Isles.
The Queen later gave brith to another Prince Erwin and princess Cassana was born a year after. The King and Queen agreed that they had done their duty to the realm and were done giving birth any more children. But what did they expect when they were spending a lot of their time in their chambers like newly married couple? The Queen would later give birth to another prince named Tommen.
