"What Was/ What Should Have Been"
(Spencer's Honesty Version)
Spencer and Trina entered the bar where she and Joss had gone months ago to try to get evidence that Esme had purchased a burner phone there. Moments later, Joss and Dex came in to join Spencer and Trina. Unfortunately, once the two couples started having a conversation, things went south quickly. Spencer was not happy to learn that Trina had told Joss about the fake evidence. As a result, that meant that Dex, someone Spencer could barely tolerate, knew about the fake evidence as well. Trina, on the other hand, was not happy to learn that Spencer had not destroyed the fake evidence, as he said he would. Those revelations, along with insults for Dex from Spencer, punches thrown, and a serious tongue-lashing from Trina to Spencer led to a disappointing evening. By the time it was over, Spencer was bruised, shirt-less, and alone in his room with his ex and Trina was unforgiving and at GH with her mother, who she doesn't know is plotting against her fragile relationship.
That's how it happened. But how about this?
Shortly after arriving at the bar, Spencer and Trina were joined by Joss and Dex. Spencer tried to hide his displeasure at seeing, not only Dex but, Joss, as well-for Trina's sake. "Not this dude, again. He's everywhere lately," Spencer thought to himself. "Joss isn't even the same anymore since she started hanging out with Dex. I can't believe she dumped Cam for this jerk. The more I think about it, I can't do this!" Spencer suddenly realized.
"Hi, Joss, Dex," Spencer greeted them as cordially as he could.
They return the pleasantries.
"Um, if you could excuse us for a moment, I need to talk to Trina about something I just remembered," Spencer said to Joss and Dex, whild Trina looked oddly puzzled. Joss and Dex nodded and said that they would grab a table for them.
Spencer and Trina walked outside, where Trina immediately wanted to know what was going on.
"What did you need to tell me?" Trina asked brusquely.
"Trina, you know that I've been trying to be a better man, not just for you but, for myself," Spencer started. Trina nodded her head in agreement.
"So, in an effort to continue along that path, I have to be honest with you about something," Trina looked concerned.
"I don't like Dex. Period. Whether valid or not, I don't like the guy. Whenever we're in the same space, he triggers something in me. So, in my effort to continue being a better man, I can't stay," Spencer said as matter-of-factly as he could.
He saw the scowl that had crept on Trina's face, along with a furrowed brow. If he didn't act quickly, he knew that World War Three was going to commence.
"Before you say anything Trina, please consider what I've said. I'm begging you to understand. I'm trying to do the right thing and be honest about my feelings," Spencer said.
The more Spencer talked and explained himself, Trina began to soften.
"Thank you for your honesty, Spencer. I will accept that. You've told me on numerous occasions that you don't like Dex. And instead of being understanding, I question your reasons and continue to put you in a position where you do not like to be. So, I'm going to take a page from your book and try to do better. But, what can we tell them without being rude?" Trina asked.
"How about...How about we tell them that you forgot that I had planned something special for us tonight to make up for the mess that I made of the date night that you brought to me?" Spencer suggested.
"So, it's going to be my fault, huh?" Trina chuckled. "Because we are a team, this is one that I'll take for the team," she said and smiled.
After Spencer and Trina informed Joss and Dex about the previously made plans, they decided to go to their comfortable place-Kelly's.
Joss and Dex would stay at the bar to see if they could uncover anything about Esme and the phone.
Spencer and Trina shared a hot fudge sundae, good conversation (including one about Spencer having not destroyed the fake evidence-since Joss had alluded to that when they were at the pool, Trina had already subconsciously prepared herself for that revelation), and a lot of smiles and laughs. After a while, Spencer looked as though a light had gone off in his head.
"What is it, Spencer?" Trina questioned him.
"Do you realize that we could call this our first date?" Spencer asked Trina. "You know, as an official couple?"
"You're absolutely right," Trina replied.
"So, no date should end this early. What else can we do on this date night?" Spencer wondered.
"How about we go to an actual movie theater and see whatever blockbuster is out?" Trina suggested.
"Sounds like a plan. Let's go," Spencer said, as he put money down on the table for the sundae and got up to get Trina's chair for her. Trina smiled.
As they walked out, hand-in-hand, they both thought to themselves, "How lucky did I get?"
