Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom or Overlord
Ok, this was one of the Danny Phantom Fics I mentioned was in the works in my "Wings of a Shinobi" fic. This does not mean I stopped working on the five fics I mention in there as well
Unexpected Spirit - Danny Phantom x Teen Titans -chapter uploaded
Naruto: Heir of the Digital Catalyst - Naruto X Digimon - 35%
Something hidden - Naruto AU - 20%
Crown on a Maelstrom - Naruto x Mario - 20%
Fox Gaurdian - Naruto Shippuden - 50%
These are rough guesses on their completion as they could be longer or shorter depending on how the scenes go.
There are still two other Danny Phantom pilot chapters I am working on as well (Danny Phantom X Chibi Vampire Karin, and a Danny Phantom AU), not to mention my artwork. (and real-life work) so….yeah
This was supposed to be just around 4K words. How the hell did it become 13K?!
Important
There are what can be considered tiny bits of convoluted actions but I tried my best.
Please know that this is my fic. I am sure that there are those that read this who will not like how I did things but being rude about it will get you nothing. And if you don't like it, you don't have to read the rest and are free to write your own. (I'm writing this cause I got a bunch of complaints on the other Overlord crossover I did.)
Request: please do not leave a review here about another of my fics, like "What about the character from 'the other fic'? I want you to update ******** and to talk about ******". Please don't do this
Now onto the story
Chapter 1: A New Type of….game?
Danny Fenton, a fifteen-year-old high school student, youngest of the weirdest family in Amity Park…
And unknown to 99% of the town, Ghost hero: Danny Phantom.
Though there are times when he wished that he didn't have this kind of life, he did enjoy being the hero of the town, but the downsides get to him at times.
His parents constantly make inventions that were made with the sole purpose of destroying him.
Valerie has a vendetta against him despite his many attempts telling her that Cujo wasn't his dog and he was trying to stop whatever the dog was doing. But no matter how much he told her, she would not listen and continued to try and kill him.
The GIW continuously aiming to catch him and, in their own words, "subject him to painful and unusual experimentation". Despite their incompetence, they are still a threat and always cause damage to the surrounding area and blame it all on him.
Then there is the majority of the town hating him for just being a ghost and bringing the ghosts into town so he could fight them and do damage to the town. Sure, there are some adults that don't hate him, and many of the teens are his fans, but most of the adults call him a menace and that he should take his ghost troubles somewhere that would want him.
Then there are the ghosts that appear at any time of the day to make his life harder. It's because of them that he started failing in class, he is almost always tired when he gets to school, and he started to forget what sleeping was like.
Then there was Vlad Masters, the other half ghost that seemed to make his life miserable just because he wanted to. The man is obsessed with things that he thinks he deserves but doesn't understand that people will never get everything they want. There will always be something that will be beyond reach. Trying to get it is fine, but if it comes at the cost of others' happiness and livelihood, is it worth it? Vlad didn't care about how others felt about things as long as he gets what he wanted. And the things he wants the most are to marry Danny's mother, kill his father, and take Danny as his son/apprentice.
Not gonna happen if Danny has any say in it
He wished that his life would be different, maybe to change things up or to make it better, but he was not going to say it out loud, especially since the words "I wish" would be very dangerous if Desiree was anywhere around.
Despite all of the negatives that took up his life, he did have a couple of good outlets.
Right now, he was in the middle of one of them.
"Watch it, Tucker; there're a few players heading your way!"
{I got it!}
(Relax, I got them.}
{Thanks, Sam}
He was in the middle of playing Doom with his friends, as it was the weekend, and there were no ghosts out at the moment. He and his friends were at the final level, and getting the last of the silver keys needed to beat the whole thing, but they weren't the only ones.
He moved his character to hide behind a rock as another player was shooting at him. When he got a moment, he moved from behind the rock and shot back at the player. It was a direct hit, and the other player disappeared as his HP was depleted. Danny smirked at the victory before he saw that Tucker was being chased by another one. He stretched out his hand, closed one of his eyes, and stuck out his tongue as he aimed. Once he got a clear shot, he blasted the player, causing him to disappear as well.
Friar Tuck, Tucker's avatar name, looked behind him and smiled at seeing he was in the clear. He waved at Dany in gratitude. {Thanks, Phantom Knight.}
Danny's avatar nodded in response. Danny's avatar hadn't changed at all, but he did rename himself because it sounded cooler. He moved his avatar from his cover and ran to rejoin Friar Tuck. He had to crouch to avoid a few shots that were aimed at him but made it without losing any HP. "How we doing?"
Friar Tuck looked to Phantom Knight and gave a thumbs up. {we only have three players left. Should be easy.}
Danny gave a flat look to the screen as he responded. "Dude, you're only saying that 'cause your partners have ultimate cheat codes."
Friar Tuck slumped. {How come I don't have anything cool?}
Chaos stomped to stand over them as she shot toward the other players. {You just don't have enough luck to find any of the cheats in here.} She continued blasting before looking down at the two. {You want to finish this, or are you fine sitting there?}
Danny smirked as he moved his avatar to look over his cover and throw a disk toward the other players. He stood there and waited for the result.
{*Boom*}
He smirked, seeing the notification telling him that the other players were taken out.
Chaos looked at Phantom Knight with a nod. {you've gotten good at this game.}
Danny leaned back in his seat as he spoke into his headphone. "After playing this for a long time, it only makes sense I would get good." 'Not to mention that fighting ghosts helps me think of things I can do in the game.'
Friar Tuck stood up and brushed himself off before heading to grab the keys needed to win the game. {what about me?}
{...you've gotten better?}
{Hey! Why does it sound like a question?! I've gotten good too!}
Chaos turned to look at him. {Can you beat the game on your own?} Was her snarky question.
The silence from him was telling.
Danny smiled as he saw their avatars open the door once more. This was actually the eighth time they had beaten Doomed, and sadly, he was starting to think that the game was becoming dull. Though, it's only natural since the game hasn't really changed since it first came out.
They each got the congratulatory "you win" screen along with the in-game currency prize they could spend on upgrades and powerups. Yet, thanks to them beating the game multiple times, there was no need for them to buy anything else since they already had the best gear and the highest power-ups their characters could have. They do, on occasion, buy something that sounds like it would be fun to use, but overall, they hold onto the winnings.
Except for Tucker, who keeps using it for random in-game events.
Their team has gained a reputation in the Doomed community, calling them the best in the game, and other players started to see them as the real final boss. Especially when the team has "The Specter" in place of the Phantom Knight, Danny's avatar when he jumps in the game to take over his avatar.
They closed out of the game and went onto video chat.
Sam stretched her arms above her before speaking. {so, what are you guys doing tomorrow?}
"You mean in an hour?" Danny looked at the clock to see that it was 11:14 PM. "Well, so far, there haven't been any ghosts out today, so I'm thinking of just doing whatever. Maybe sleep."
Tucker shrugged. {I've still got energy to spare, so I'm thinking of playing another game. Just don't know which.}
'Wonder if there are any other games we could play.' Was Danny's thoughts as he stared up at the ceiling. It was then he remembered something that he learned from an old comic he had been reading recently. "Hey, guys, did you hear about this game from overseas?" He saw them both give him a look of expectation.
Sam crossed her arms as she was curious about where he was going with this. {You gonna tell us, or are you gonna keep us in suspense?}
Danny felt sheepish as he realized that his question was so vague and broad that there was no way they would know what he was talking about. "Sorry, I was talking about an online game that is really popular in Japan. I read about it in a comic I got from the bookstore."
Sam looked at him with a raised eyebrow. {You went to a bookstore?}
This got Tucker to laugh.
Danny glared at the screen at his two friends. "Anyway~!" was his annoyed response as he waited for his two friends to stop their snickering before he brought up his point. "I read about a game that was very popular. It's a fantasy game with monsters, knights, magic, and all sorts of different creatures. I figured that we could check it out since we already beat Doomed so many times. You know, something different."
Tucker scratched his head as he thought about it. {I don't mind trying out a new game but…. Japan? None of us know how to read or speak it. How would we be able to play it if we don't even know what we are putting on our character?}
Danny shrugged. "We could wing it. It's not like we need to become the best like in Doomed, but we could just play for the fun of it."
Sam thought about it and nodded in agreement. Being the best in one game was enough for her, so just playing another game for kicks was something she could do. {does the game have a name?}
Danny got up from his seat and went over to his bed to grab the comic he was reading. He then sat back down and opened it up to the page he saw the advertisement. He looked at the name of it and began to read it out. "Yugdazel …eegdrizzil..?"
This confused the other two before the female of them asked. {why don't you spell it out? Oh, and that isn't a comic; it's a manga. That's what they call the comics in Japan.}
Danny nodded as he didn't know about that. He just picked up the "manga" because the front image looked cool. Took him a minute to learn that he had to read it in reverse to the way he was used to, but the story so far was interesting. Getting back to the real topic, he figured that taking her advice was better than butchering the word. "Y-g-g-d-r-a-s-i-l-l."
{Yggdrasill? Is it based on Norse mythology's sacred tree, which can also be considered the world tree, where the gods would assemble to discuss their underlings' actions?}
The two males blinked at her in confusion, as they had no idea what she was talking about.
Sam rolled her eyes. {I know about these things. Anyway, from what you said, it adds up that it would be called that with all the magic and stuff that mythology tends to have.}
Tucker had no knowledge about mythology, but the game sounded interesting. {Well, maybe we should try it. Sounds like fun.}
Sam was in agreement. {Got the site?} Was her question to Danny.
Danny looked back to the manga and saw the website name, and gave it to his friends.
Just like they had assumed, they couldn't read anything on the webpage but it looked cool, with the image of everything that Danny had told them about. They went over the page with a bunch of links about events or special features the game had.
The more they saw, the more excited Danny got and he was starting to get impatient, especially with how long it was taking. They stumbled through the sign-up portion but they had gotten through it to the character customization. There were so many options in it and Danny finally decided that he should…take a shortcut.
He did promise to never cheat on something again and he held onto that promise, but this was just him using his "fast-pass" to get further in. "Hey, guys, I'm gonna head inside the game and check it out."
Sam looked at him with a raised eyebrow. {You finished your setup already?}
Danny shook his head. "Naw, I'm heading in…. Myself."
Tucker stopped typing in something for his character and looked at him. {hey, that's not fair! You're skipping all the stuff we gotta go through.} He glared at his screen and the text box he didn't even know what was for.}
Danny shrugged. "Hey, I have this ultimate cheat. Why not use it? Besides, I'm just going to look around. Not gonna do any quests or tasks or whatever."
Sam rolled her eyes as she clicked on one of the options for her avatar's look. {You better not. I didn't use any cheats when I started to get ahead, so you better not do that.}
Danny chuckled. "Come on, guys, I'm just going to look around for a bit. We can go exploring together when we meet up tomorrow." He saw his friends give a shrug and he took that as a go-ahead. He stood up and transformed into his alter ego: Danny Phantom.
A ring of white light appeared around his waist before splitting, with one ring going up, while the other goes down. His clothing changed from his white shirt with a red oval on it and blue jeans, into a hazmat suit that was mostly black with his collar, gloves, and boots becoming pure white, and his emblem appearing on his chest. His eyes changed from baby blue to glowing neon green, and his hair changed from pitch black to pure snow white.
Once his transformation was done, he floated off the ground and looked at the screen where the video window showed his friends. "I'll see you guys inside." His eyes then shifted to the other window that had the game. Without waiting for his friend's response, turned intangible, and flew into the game.
The two were still on the video call, showing Tucker grumbling about how unfair Danny was being. As he was still doing his character, he asked Sam something that was bothering him. {Hey, Sam?}
{hmm?}
{got any idea what that timer is for?}
Sam's eyes went to the timer that could be seen on the side of the window. {No clue. Might be for some event that they are going to do.}
On the side of the site was a countdown. One that showed it would reach zero soon.
Danny found himself flying through, what looked like, a tunnel of electrical swirling energy and if it wasn't for his enhanced senses, he would have missed them. Though, he felt a bit unsettled since he wasn't in control of his flight and instead, it was almost like he was being sucked through the beam of the Fenton thermos. "I don't remember this happening the last time I tried thi~~~~~S!" After a time he couldn't even tell, he found himself landing in a crouch. "Ow." He stood up and looked around to gain his bearings.
He found himself standing on a golden platform that was in the middle of a black void.
"Ok….. this is new." He spun around to see if he could find anything. It was as he was doing this that he saw a few screens on one side, but something was off about them. "Huh?"
The screens were glitching out with the words on them being unreadable since the letters were scrolling randomly.
Danny had never seen something like this before but his mind concluded that since this was a game in a new country, this might be how things were in the setup. He crossed his arm and tapped his foot as he waited for anything to happen to allow him to enter the full game. He knew he could just dive deeper into the room but he knew that this was the character creation section and one thing he was looking forward to was at least setting up his name. After another minute of waiting, he thought that maybe he was supposed to do something, so he reached up to the screen.
The second his finger touched the screen, it finally stopped its random actions, revealing the setting up portion was already set.
Danny was about to read what the screen said so he could adjust it to the things he would want, but suddenly his body was enveloped in light, causing him to look down in shock.
The light only enveloped everything under his neck and soon began to take shape. After a few seconds, the light dispersed to reveal another set of clothes on Danny.
He was now wearing a silver chest plate and pauldrons, a light blue undershirt, beige pants with silver armor plating over his thighs and silver boots, and armor bracers over his arms. The last thing added was a blue cape that reached his feet. Overall, he looked like a knight.
Danny looked at his new attire and twisted his body to look at the cape. "Why a knight? I mean, yeah, they are cool, but I don't think…"
Suddenly, the platform he was standing on disappeared and he found himself falling.
"waaaaaaAAAAAHHH~"
"Oomph!" Danny landed on the concrete ground of a town that looked like a medieval fantasy. He picked himself off the ground and looked around to get his bearings. He was impressed at the fantasy feel the place had, especially since he saw a few beastmen, knights, and "villagers" walking the street. "Damn, they went all out on this game." He continued to look around, not realizing that he started walking down the street. However, since he wasn't paying attention, he bumped into someone and fell to the ground again. 'I'm getting tired of falling.' He looked up to see it was one of the knights he had bumped into. "Sorry. I wasn't paying attention." He got up and looked at the knight expecting some sort of retort but all he got was a blank stare. Dany waited for a few more seconds till it started to feel awkward. He rubbed the back of his neck as he gave a nervous chuckle. He lowered his head as he tried to explain himself. "Well, I'm new here and I just thought the place looked amazing and I wanted to make sure I got everything in view and I…. um…" He looked back up only to see the same blank stare. This confused Danny and he wondered if something about him was causing the guy to stare. "Is….. is there something wrong with my avatar?" He looked himself over again and didn't see anything that would be so shocking about it.
Yet the knight would still not change his expression.
Danny started to get grumpy at this and crossed his arms. "Hey, are you gonna say something?" Still not getting anything, he decided to just leave the guy since it was just some random stranger. He turned to the side and began to walk away, but as he did this, he noticed the guy began to walk. He glared over his shoulder at the sight of the guy continuing to walk. "I know people can be rude but there should be a limit." He let out a huff and decided to continue his exploration of the town. As he looked up, he noticed that his hair was white. He pulled it down and realized he was in his phantom form. Looking down at himself, he could not help but think that his knight outfit didn't suit his phantom look. Wondering if he could change it, he moved over to an empty alley. Despite being in a video game from another country, he made sure there was no one else around. "Hope this works." He summoned his transformation rings again and tried to focus on the clothing he had on. Much to his satisfaction, it worked.
The rusty metal that took up his armor changed into pitch black with a sheen to it making it seem like brand new, the blue underclothing he had turned into a neon green, his boots and bracers turned into pure white silver, and his cape became a dark green with small neon green flames on the hem. The final addition was his logo showing up on his chest plate.
He looked at himself and thought that the look was much better for Phantom. Once he was done appreciating the upgraded look, he walked out of the alley and began to walk around the town, this time making sure that he didn't bump into anyone else.
Danny walked around the town since he wanted to start out the way anyone else would. It is a new game so he wanted to get a better feel for it, especially since it was more open-world than Doomed is.
After a bit, he found himself standing at the window of an armor shop and looking at the type of clothing they had on display. He couldn't help but think that his friends would like what they had.
One of the pieces of clothing was a dark purple and black garb that looked like a witch would wear. Obviously, Sam would like this one.
The other one was a full set of armor that was bulky and had a large shield that came with it. Its helmet even had a red feather on it which would probably appeal to Tucker who likes to keep some of his real-life features in his game.
As he looked, a window popped up that he figured showed the price. It was then he remembered that he would not be able to read anything in this game since it was in Japan. He was reminded about this since the description of the items were in Japanese. The price was the only thing he could understand.
As Danny was looking at the pieces of armor, he noticed someone standing to his left and seemed to be staring at him. He turned his head to the woman and asked. "Something you need?"
….
Danny was getting a sense of deja vu as the woman just stood there with a blank stare. "Ok, seriously, is this some sort of race thing?"
The woman still did nothing.
Danny stared at her for a second before he began to walk backward, away from her.
It was after he was a few feet away from her that she began to walk again.
He felt uncomfortable with her following him and stopped to confront her, only for her to stop again with the same dead look. Raising an eyebrow, he chose to move again and turn while still moving in reverse to keep her in sight. He grew confused when she just kept walking, acting like he wasn't even there. Thinking about what happened with the knight before and this woman, he looked around before choosing someone at random. "Hey!"
No response
Danny, getting an inkling, moved to stand in front of the person, causing said person to stop. After a second, he stepped aside, and then the person continued walking. "Wait." He did it again for another two people with him waving his hand in front of their faces. "Are these NPCs?" He figured that would be the case since none of the people seemed to even acknowledge him. "That's weird, I read that this was an MMORPG. Shouldn't that mean there should be a lot of players here?" He looked around and figured that everyone there were NPCs since they were just walking around. "Weird, maybe there is some event or something that got all of them to leave town. But there's gotta be someone around her that might be able to tell me something about the game.
Danny spent a good amount of time looking for any other player but after going around the whole town, there was no one. He thought it was weird about the town being empty of any players but his previous thought about an event that was happening, emptying out the town seemed to be the most prominent. Now that he had looked all around town, he figured that he should get a better view of the world and he had the best cheat to do that. Gaining a smirk, he looked into the sky before he flew up to be far above the town. When he finally stopped, he saw that the world was massive and he couldn't see any end to it. "Woah, this place is huge!"
The game world had many different types of areas, from forests, oceans, swamp lands, ruins, and it even looked like there was some sort of land in the sky.
Danny felt his curiosity getting to him and he really wanted to explore more. He thought about his friends and wondered if he should wait for them to pop in. But he remembered that they would most likely go out tomorrow when they have the time, so it wouldn't hurt if he just kept going. He could spot areas that he could come back to later with them with him. Picking a direction, he flew off at top speed so he could get as much of a layout of the game world as he could.
Danny had no idea how long he had been flying but one thing he knew was that this world was absolutely huge and there was so much to explore.
He made sure not to go anywhere too deep so that he wouldn't get a head start. He already flew over most of the areas and now he was heading toward the swamplands. "Pretty sure we won't head this way when we play but you never know. There might be a quest or something that takes us here so it's best I get an idea of it." He saw that he was coming up on the land and pushed his speed to get there faster.
However, when he was about to arrive at the Swampland's airspace, his face impacted something. But it wasn't like he hit something hard like a wall, but instead, it was like he ran into clear rubber.
He flailed in the air as it flung him back but he caught himself in the air before putting a hand on his head and shaking it. "The hell?" he looked to where he impacted it and slowly flew back. Reaching out a hand, he soon felt something blocking his way. "Is this a boundary wall?" He pushed it a bit harder before his face scrunched up in concentration. "No, it's not."
Pushing a little harder, he soon learned what it was.
Gaining a look of interest, he brought his other hand to it and grabbed it with both hands. Using his strength, he pulled something down and it looked like he ripped a hole in reality. "I was right, it's sealed-up content."
Something He had learned he could do in games is, that if he runs into a wall that feels like elastic or rubber, it means that he has reached a part of the game where something was supposed to be but was cut from the final product.
A lot of the time, when developers cut content out of games, they leave the code in the game for one reason or another but it is never accessible through normal means.
Danny though, can reach the content by finding the area and pulling back the wall to block it off. Like he did with Technus and Level Zero in Doomed.
Danny poked his head inside to get a look at what was inside. To his shock, it was character models that were just standing in the middle of a village. From what he could tell from the distance he was, they looked like lizard people. He couldn't get full details about them but yeah, they were lizard people. "Looks like the developers cut out a whole race, or maybe just this tribe." He wanted to get a closer look but he knew that if he let go of the hole, he would be stuck in this small pit for who knows how long. Most likely thirty minutes to an hour. All he had to do was find the hole but since he had to be precise, it could take some time. Figuring he could come back to it later, he let go of the wall and closed it.
Feeling proud of finding a hidden secret, he looked around to find somewhere else he could explore. That was when his eyes caught sight of a structure in the distance, surrounded by a dark eerie forest. "That looks interesting." He looked the place over and thought about the aesthetic. From what he had seen in other games he had played, it screamed dungeon. The place players aimed to explore. However, the forest just gave it the feeling of a high-level area full of dark creatures. "If this wasn't a game, I would stay away from it. Looks like something a 'big bad' would live in." Feeling confident in his abilities and how he wasn't planning to actually take on whatever was inside, he nodded to himself and flew off to check it out.
Danny looked down at the dead forest he was flying over and could see that there were some weird animals or monsters, roaming through the trees. He was even sure that there were some massive bugs attacking something, and he was sure he would not know the name unless he got to it. He saw that he had arrived at the end of the forest and into what looked like a dirt plane. With the massive structure not that far away, he chose to land and at least walk to the front door. He looked up at the structure and was impressed by its size. The overall area was a bit white but its main building looked like a small temple. "Looks like something from Pandora's realm. Sam would probably love this place." He began to make his way toward it.
However, after he got a certain distance from the main entrance, the dirt began to crack before things began to burst out.
Danny yelped at the sight and he saw that skeletons were rising from the grave, all of which had decaying weapons and armor.
This might have intimidated others who never experienced something like this. However, Danny had seen and dealt with things more intimidating than this. As such, he was able to activate his invisibility to avoid them.
Danny's invisibility was the ultimate stealth in games as it hid him from the view of anyone regardless of skill.
'Thank you, Ultimate cheat code.' He began to walk past the skeletons that seemed to be on standby, most likely waiting to see the enemy. Danny waved his hand in front of the face of one of them and covered his mouth, to muffle his laughter. 'Sorry, bonehead, I'm just scouting, not here for a fight.' He kept moving, having to twist his body in order to not touch any of them and soon he found himself at the entrance, which turned out to be a set of stairs. He paused as he thought that maybe he had gone far enough and he had no idea how long he had been in the game. There wasn't any clock that could tell him how long he had been playing but if he had to guess, it was a couple hours.
He did explore the town and flew across a lot of land.
Looking up into the sky, wondering if he should call it a day. But his curiosity had him looking down the stairs.
The way for him to exit a game, he has to fly up till he hit the game's limit and phase through the wall. That was how he would exit out
'Welp, I got here, might as well finish it.' He walked down the stairs as he told himself. 'Besides, this will be the last thing I do.' Walking down the stairs, he saw that he was entering a large stone area that was perfect for a fight. Danny knew that if a player enters a room like this, it was obvious that it was a boss room. Something he wasn't going to do without his friends. He stopped a few steps from the bottom and looked to the other side to see that there was an exit.
Looking down at the floor, he figured that the fight would start if he stepped foot on the arena, so he floated in the air and flew over to the other side. He smirked at the fact that nothing happened.
As he flew past them, he confirmed that they were NPCs and they might even be what players had to fight. After he made that mental note, he flew past them and saw that there was another set of stairs. He flew down the stairs this time to avoid any traps that might show up since he was sure that there would be some after doing the first boss.
He came out of the staircase to see that he was now in a graveyard. "More skeletons or zombies. Sam might have a blast with this area." He flew over the area in a straight line as he figured that the exit would be on the other side. He soon made it to the exit of the room and down the stairs. He paused when he reached the next level and saw what it was. 'Another graveyard? Man, zombies are gonna be a pain if it takes too long to take out.' He did the same as before and headed toward the exit of this level. Something he noticed was that in the middle of the graveyard was a girl with silver hair, wearing some sort of fancy dress. 'She must be either some sort of helper or the boss.' He ignored her and continued his journey.
Much to his dismay, the third level was also a graveyard.
Danny slumped in the air at the sight. "If the whole place is just a graveyard, we are gonna need some sort of holy magic or something." With that he flew faster out of the area, hoping it would change at some point.
The next floor was a large underground lake. "Finally!" He felt relief that the graveyard finally ended and appreciated the lake underneath him. He floated there for a minute before he chose to keep going.
The next floor turned out to be his favorite. It was a room completely made of ice. His ice core appreciated the temperature and Danny took in a deep breath as if he was smelling fresh air. Though, he frowned as he couldn't smell anything really. Sure it felt cold but the air he breathed in didn't feel cold. It took him a second to remember that he was in a video game. "Oh, right." He continued on and much like the graveyard, he saw that there was a figure standing in the middle of the area. It was a large blue-beetle-like creature holding a large weapon in one of its hands, and Danny wasn't sure but it looked like there was an ice swirl around it. 'An Ice Beatle, fire attacks then.'
The next floor was a forest, which caught Danny off guard cause he thought that he might have ended up outside, somehow. But he remembered that outside of this dungeon was a dark swamp-like area. Not to mention that the floors above him had their own area type so he assumed that this one was just like them. He found a coliseum in the middle of the forest and this time, he saw that there were two figures. Kids from what he could tell and twins at that. 'Who came up with the bosses for this dungeon?'
The next level, Danny was sure he hated. Well, "hate" may be too strong a word but he really really didn't like it. It was a room filled with lava, almost as if he had entered a volcano. "Whatever is here, I seriously don't want to see it!" He had pushed his flight to get out of the room faster, causing his legs to morph into his ghostly tail. He did see a man wearing a red suit standing on a small rock in the middle of the lava river as he flew. 'You do you, I'm out of here. I can't stand the heat, even if this is a video game.'
The next was only slightly better in Danny's opinion. It looked like a barren wasteland with a few rock ridges seen in the distance. It might not be as hot as the last level but it was still warm, and Danny didn't enjoy the feeling. Though the difference between the lava and this was like he entered an Air conditioned room. The figure in this room was something Danny wasn't sure what to call. It was pink, that much he was certain of, but he didn't know what it was supposed to be. 'If I ever get the chance, I gotta look up info about this game's bosses so I can figure out what the hell that was supposed to be.'
As he was closing in on the exit of the room, he thought about what he had seen. 'Ok, so the first two floors….wait! No, three floors, are graveyard-like areas. I'm guessing full of undead monsters so we would need holy magic or light magic, or whatever is good against those types. If I had to guess, Sam is going to go for a dark-mage type of character. That kind of magic might not be possible for her, and even if it was she would not like to use that kind of thing. If Tucker chooses a paladin, maybe he could use something like it but I don't know what could learn what.' He shrugged at that as this was still a new game for him. 'We can find out later on. The floor after that must be water monsters or fish monsters. Sam will be able to handle that since she would most likely have lightning magic as a default. If there are elemental weapons, that can help too. Next floor we would need fire. That should be easy enough since fire stuff is typical for all games.' He crossed his arms as he thought about the next floor. 'Not sure about that one. I think it would be basic so all we have to do is use all of our skill to beat it and come up with tactics as we go along.' He frowned as he thought about the lava floor. 'I might have to go phantom for that one and use my ice power for it. Though if we can find a way to do it fairly, we can try it out that way first. Barren land means water-type attacks should be best.'
Danny soon found himself flying in a long hallway, which got him to sigh in relief as that meant that this could be the end or the midway point. 'If I'm only halfway, we are really gonna have to grind in order to get anywhere in this dungeon.' He paused when he saw there were doors lining both sides of the hall. Feeling curious, he turned intangible and poked his head into each of the rooms he moved passed. He was starting to think he was in a mall, what with all the types of shops this place had
Large communal baths, cafeterias, beauty salons, clothing stores, grocery stores, fitness salons, nail salons, and many more types of shops were found on this floor. (1)
Danny scratched his head as it just seemed so out of place with how the rest of this dungeon felt like. 'I guess whoever made this place wanted this to obviously be a rest area for those who made it this far.' still being wary in case there were booby traps, he continued to fly down the hall to check out the rest of what the floor had, maintaining his invisibility up just in case.
Momonga, a lich-like being that wore a dark robe line with gold and purple hemming and large skeletal pointed pauldrons that had red orbs on his shoulders, was sitting in the round table room where the members of Ainz Ooal Gown met. His skeletal face turned as he looked around at the pristine room and was a little disheartened at how the forty seats that took up the large table were all empty. "I guess it's to be expected. With how late it is, and how the server will be going down in the next hour and a half, the others must have already accepted the end." He laid his hands on the table thinking back to what he and the rest of the members of the guild went through to make the Tomb of Nazarick. He thought fondly about how they had put their very livelihood on the line in order to build not only this tomb, but the floor guardians, weapons, and treasure.
So much had been put into this dungeon that it had become a second home for the members. As such, they made sure to defend it from other players that had attempted to conquer it. Up to the very end, no one has ever gotten close to reaching the end of the whole thing.
One of the members even joked that if anyone were to ever reach the end, then they should consider….
Momonga was brought out of his thoughts when he saw a notification pop up, alerting him that another had logged in. He looked up to see that one of the seats was now occupied by another. "This is a surprise, it's good to see you, Herohero."
Herohero was a blue-like slime creature that seemed to be consistently oozing, yet there were places where his eyes and mouth should be that the ooze does not cover, giving him a face of sorts.
Herohero raised a hand to the other occupant of the room. "Hey, Momonga, I see you wanted to be here for the end too."
Momonga nodded. "Yeah. it just felt right to be here for the server's end."
"I hear ya. With how much we put into it, being here is how we should cast off."
Momonga lowered his head in sadness at that thought. He knows it's happening but it still hurts to hear it.
Herohero noticed this and quickly apologized for what he said. "Sorry, I know you love this place and don't want to see it go."
Momonga shook his head. "No, it's not your fault. I am going to be sad losing this place, I guess….. I hate having to accept it."
The two sat in silence for a few moments till Herohero continued.
"Yeah. it almost feels like we are losing a kid. Well….maybe not that drastic but ….yeah."
Momonga nodded. To him, it was like losing a kid. He loved this place. It was his home. Almost his real home.
Herohero looked around and could not help but admire the state of the tomb. "I gotta say, you've done a great job keeping this place running."
"Huh?"
Herohero pointed at the room in general. "Well, look at how this place is still shining as if it was still brand new. The aging feature of the game only gives you about ten days till the walls change to look older. But here, it's still as white and well-polished as it was when we first started. Being guild master suited you."
Momonga rubbed his head in embarrassment. "Well, as you said, I loved the place. I wanted to keep it pristine for as long as I could. Not only that, I defended it from anyone that would try and take it."
Herohero chuckled. "And from what I can tell, no one has ever made it far enough." He let out a sigh as he thought about something that was said long ago. "I know you won't like what I say here, but it's almost disappointing that no one has ever made it to this level." seeing a confused face icon next to Momonga's head, he elaborated. "I mean, other dungeons and tombs were beaten already. This one was the only tomb that has never been beaten. The farthest any other player has gotten was level four. I guess what I'm saying is that I had hoped, on some level, there would be someone that could reach us here." He stayed silent for a few seconds. "I guess I'm just letting the gamer in me out in wanting a challenge."
Momonga nodded. "I guess I understand. We might have made the defenses a little too tough for anyone to get past."
"Are you two players?"
Momonga and Herohero jumped at the sudden voice and turned toward the door to see an unfamiliar face, one that was only a head on the door.
Danny was still going through the rooms to see what they had. The last room in the hall was this white pristine room with a lot of chairs to a big round table with only two other beings in it. He was about to leave the room, thinking they were just NPCs till he heard them talking (2). He was relieved to actually see other players and could not help himself but ask. "Are you two players?" Seeing them react to his words, he phased into the room with a smile on his face. "Finally! I've been going through this whole game trying to find anyone else."
Herohero was the first to ask with a bit of confusion but maintained his casual demeanor. "How did you get here?" No one had ever reached this far into the tomb so to see another player…. Was baffling.
Danny threw a thumb over his shoulder. "I came through the door." He let out a chuckle from his snarky comment before clearing his throat as no one else was laughing. "Sorry, I made my way through each of the floors to check this place out."
Momonga was the next to speak. "But, how did you get here without us knowing? Battling all the floor guardians should have alerted us to your presence. Not only that, you were able to defeat them all."
Danny rubbed the back of his neck as his ghost tail flicked a bit more in nervousness. "Well….. You could say that I have… the ultimate stealth skill." It was the best thing he could come up with: The Ultimate stealth skill. He and Tucker had called it that and now every time he goes into games, he calls it that in case anyone caught him using it. These guys didn't catch him using it but their questions kinda cornered him.
Herohero looked at his mini-map and saw the red dot that showed this new guy's position.
Normally, other players would be blue, with friends and teammates being green. It was red right now cause he was not a member of the guild and trespassing on their territory. This still confused him as they should have been alerted the second he stepped inside. Turning to face this white-haired….. Floating?... knight, he asked. "What do you mean 'ultimate stealth skill'?"
'Crap!' he and his friends never came up with a way to show it off. If he just went invisible, it would be too weird since there were no skills, that he knew of, that didn't need some sort of item or command. Sure he didn't know this game but he really didn't want others finding out about it, or asking how he got it. 'Ok, Fenton, think! What can I do to make it look like a skill?' He racked his brain to come up with something quick so as to not take too long. His mind came up with something and he went with it. Thankful to already be floating, he used a bit of his body manipulation, swung his arm around him, swirled his body on one point, and turned himself invisible.
Herohero looked back to his Mini-map and saw that he had disappeared from there as well. "Did he teleport?"
"No, I'm still here." He reappeared behind the other two, shocking them.
Momonga was in awe as there was no skill he knew of that could do that. There are some skills that could make a player harder to see but what this player did removed him from the map as well. That was something that no one had ever seen. "That is amazing. How did you get it? What are the prerequisites?" Normally he would have started a confrontation with this player but his curiosity in learning this new skill got the better of him. Not to mention that this guy wasn't showing the sort of haughty attitude invaders tend to have.
Danny chuckled nervously as he rubbed the back of his head. "Actually I started out with this skill. It was some sort of perk I got when I made my character." He mentally patted himself on the back for coming up with that on the spot. "Speaking of which…" he looked the other two over and couldn't help but comment. "Nice avatars. The slime thing was a bit surprising but it's still not the worst thing I've seen. And you…" He gave an appreciative look to the robbed skeleton. "My friend is gonna flip when she sees you. It's got that dark evil big bad look but you gotta appreciate the detail."
Momonga felt flattered at being praised for his avatar. He had never gotten any sort of compliment about it from any other player apart from some passing comment from his guild members. Other players tend not to have enough time to say anything before they are destroyed by their defenses. Remembering where they were and what he was supposed to do, he cleared his throat and moved to stand closer to the player. He let out a dark aura to get into character and defend his dungeon. "And you decided to use this skill to invade our tomb."
Dany panicked as he took a few steps back. "Woah, easy!" He wasn't expecting to be in a PvP with the first player he met in this new game but it shouldn't be too surprising. Lots of veteran players tend to attack newbies, not giving them a chance to fully enjoy the game. Sure he had been here a few hours but he hasn't even leveled up his character yet.
"Momonga, take it easy."
Said skeleton player looked at the slime as he lowered his aura.
Herohero moved to stand next to Momonga and spoke to his friend. "If anything, you have to give him praise for being able to get here. No one else has ever reached this level, and if it weren't for the fact that he spoke up, he could have reached the throne room without any of us knowing."
Momonga gave a confused Icon as he turned to the new player. "Yeah, why did you speak up? Didn't you know that we are the ones who own this tomb?"
Danny shook his head. "How would I have known? I've only played this game for the last few hours. I was just exploring and felt like checking this place out."
This shocked the two. The way he said it made it sound like he was a new player to the game of Yggdrasill. But that didn't make any sense. Even seasoned players at levels 60 to 80 weren't able to get this far. Yet here, some suggested newbie got past all of their defenses.
Herohero got out of his surprise first and asked. "Can you show us your status and level?"
Danny scratched his head. "How do I do that?"
Momonga brought a hand up and did the hand movement to show his status without actually doing it. "You press in the air directly in front of you." 'Is he really a noob? He doesn't even know about the status window?'
Danny followed his movements and pressed the air in front of him. Instantly a window showed up that showed his stats.
Momonga and Herohero looked at the stats and were shocked at how high they were, especially since right above it clearly showed "Lvl 1".
Momonga let out a shocked gasp. "Geh, how in the world is that even possible?" As he looked at the stats, he finally looked at the name and species that it had. 'D…danny… F… Fenton?' He had a bit of trouble reading it since it was in English lettering. It was the only thing in English as the rest of it was in Japanese. He was again surprised to see that his species didn't say "human", it said "Spirit halfbreed". He was confused about this since he had never heard of that class/species before. 'He has to be a noob since no veteran player would put their real name for everyone to see.'
Danny for his part, couldn't read anything that was shown on the stats window. Sure he could read the numbers but the letters, he had no clue. But he knew that from the start since this was a Japanese game so it was going to have Japanese lettering. The only thing he could read was his name. His name! 'Ah, crap! Why the hell is my real name there?!' That was when something else clicked in his mind. 'Wait, that's right! I'm playing a game that was only in Japan, how the hell can I understand them?' He tried to make sense of that till he thought of something. 'They must be speaking it for my sake. Nice guys.'
Truthfully, it was one of his ghostly powers. All ghosts that have a certain level of intelligence gain the ability to understand other languages and with a bit of ecto energy focused on their speech, can speak it. Danny was doing it subconsciously since he always focuses his ecto energy through his body. He just never realized he could understand other languages since he never had the chance to test it. This did not mean they could read or write the language.
Herohero laughed as he thought it was ironic that a level 1 player was able to get through all of the defenses they had made. And when he himself made a comment not too long ago about someone reaching this far. 'It's almost poetic. At the end of the game's life, someone finally has the chance to beat the dungeon that has remained unconquered all this time.'
Danny waved his hand on the screen in order to get rid of it. "At least I know how to bring that up." He also hoped that they didn't see his name cause he didn't want it to be seen, despite him being in another country where no one would know about him.
Momonga looked to Herohero and asked. "So, what should we do? With what little time is left, I don't think we have time for a battle and It wouldn't be fair for us to beat him if this was his first time playing." He then placed a hand on his chin as he thought. 'Though, why would he sign up for a game that is about to end? Does he know about it?' He looked toward Danny. 'And from his name, he seems like a foreigner. He might not know about the server shutting down or maybe he does and is checking it out before he loses the chance.'
Herohero stood there, thinking about the question Momonga asked him. It was a loaded question. Whatever the reason this noob was here, there was little to no time for them to fight this new guy and for a newbie to make it to a place no one else has. Herohero felt that something should be done. Potentially as their last task for the Tomb of Nazarick. "Momonga, I think I have an idea."
Momonga looked to Herohero to listen to his idea.
Herohero gestured to the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown. "Take the staff and let's head to the throne room."
Momonga was a little confused as to why they would need to head to the throne room, but he trusted his friend. Moving over to the staff that floated in a little nook, he grabbed the staff before moving to stand next to his friend.
Herohero gestured at Danny. "Mind following us?"
Danny tilted his head in confusion. "Uh….why?"
Herohero brought up a smiling icon before he gestured for the guy to follow. "Don't worry. Think of this as a sort of congratulations."
Danny looked up at Momongo and gave him a questioning look. All he got was a shrugging icon.
The group moved out of the room and walked toward the throne room.
Danny looked at the skeleton player and asked. "So what's your name?"
Momonga looked down at Danny and introduced himself. "I'm Momonga, the guild leader of Ainz Ooal Gown."
Danny smiled at Momonga. "Wow, so you're the leader of this place, nice name by the way. My name is….uh…" He paused as he tried to think of something to call himself, hoping that they didn't see his real name. He was about to call himself "Phantom Knight" like he was named in Doomed but he was interrupted by Herohero.
"Danny, we know. Just a tip: don't use your real name in a game. It gives everyone an impression of you being a noob."
Danny slumped as his hopes that they didn't see were dashed. "I know. I think I put my name on the character name spot when it was asking for a character name." 'even though I didn't even have the chance to actually put it.'
Herohero laughed before waving his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. In the end, it doesn't really matter anymore."
Danny was about to ask why but they stopped at the bottom of the stairs as there was a group of people standing to the side. He looked the people over and saw that they looked like servants. One butler and the rest are maids, with the maids wearing armored maid outfits.
The butler was an elderly man that had a serious look on his face.
One was a girl with dark skin and had her red hair in two braids that reach her hips. The thing he noticed about this girl was that her hat looked like she had cat ears under it.
The next was a woman with pale skin, blue eyes, and long curly blond hair. One thing that made him blush was that her maid outfit showed off a lot. The skirt was really short and her top showed off a lot of her cleavage.
Then there was one that looked like a little girl that had purple hair that was set up in two buns and strands that almost looked like two antennae on her head. This one made Danny think something was wrong with her since her face looked fake. Like a mask covering her real appearance.
Next was a girl that had peach-colored hair that reached past her waist and an eyepatch over one of her eyes and a camo scarf around her neck. Danny couldn't help but think this girl looked like she would be the tough girl.
The next two were the older females of the maids.
One of the women had blue hair and had the most armor over her maid outfit. She gave off the feel of a stoic type. One that hid emotions behind a stoic expression.
The last maid looked like a librarian, with rimless glasses and this soft look to her. One of the features about her that caught Danny's attention were the large green gauntlets she had over her hands.
'...battle maids? I think that's what they would be called.' were Danny's thoughts as they got closer to them. He waited to see if they would do anything but they stood there, not moving. He got his answer on what they were when Momonga spoke to them, ordering them to follow. 'They must be NPCs too.'
The group continued to walk down the hall with Danny looking behind him at the new group.
Danny could not help but ask. "Who are these people?"
Momonga answered the inquiry. "These are the combat maids of the Pleiades. They are supposed to be the last line of defense of the tomb of Nazarick. Though, with your skill in being able to avoid all of the floor guardians, you would have been able to sneak past them regardless." He let out a sigh. "It's a little disheartening to know that there was a skill that could make all our effort useless."
Danny tilted his head as he looked up at Momonga. "What do you mean?"
Herohero was the one to speak up from here. "Everything you see in this tomb was made by the founding members of the guild." seeing Danny looked at him shocked, and he continued. "Many of us were programmers. Something that most of us had to do was put our real life on the line as we put in a lot of work in this place."
Danny just grew even more shocked. "What do you mean you put your real lives on the line."
Momonga stepped in. "We put in our real money and relations in the real world at risk to make sure we were dedicated to this." He lifted up the staff as an example. "This is considered a 'world item', something that could alter the very game world to what we like. Though it is limited to whatever is inside the tomb."
Danny ran a hand through his hair. "Woah, one thing I can say is that you are dedicated to this game if you put your social life on the line." He crossed his arms and thought about if he would ever be able to do such a thing. It only took him a second to realize that he would not be able to. "If I could do that, I might put in a lot of my time in a game I love so much but my….job requires me to be there no matter the cause."
Herohero turned to look at him. "Your job that important?"
Danny nodded. He didn't need to tell them what it really was and for all they knew, he could be an adult doing some sort of police work or firefighter. "Yeah, the people that need me at the job depend on me and if I don't do it, something might happen that I would regret."
Herohero shook his head. "Damn. I can only guess you are a doctor or something like that with how important you are saying it is. My job is just so damn boring and it drains me every single day."
Momonga nodded. "And you've shown your dedication to this guild with the amount of time you put into it."
Herohero gave a smiling icon. "Though, I wish I could have done more."
Momonga let out another sigh. "I suppose real life, in the end, takes up priority. Though, I wish it didn't."
Danny grimaced. "Maybe, but sometimes there are things that make it worth it."
Momonga was about to respond till he realized that they had arrived at the doors to the throne room. Opening the door, he led the group inside.
Danny looked at the room and made a comparison to the ones he had seen. Overall, this was almost the biggest one he had seen. Dora's kingdom was still bigger, but that might have been a given since she was a dragon. It was then that he saw there as a woman standing by a throne chair at the end of the chamber.
The woman had pale unblemished skin, long ebony hair, and a pure white dress that had gold lining. The shoulderless dress revealed a good amount of her cleavage and had slits on both sides of her hips, revealing more skin. Over her chest was a gold spiderweb-like necklace. She had a couple of extra features as she had horns that wrapped around the top of her head and coming out of her lower back were a pair of black wings.
As they got closer, Momonga explained who she was. "Albedo, she is the highest ranking NPC of the tomb of Nazarick and supervises the other guardians."
Danny stood in front of her, making sure not to look down at her breasts. She was slightly taller than him so it was easy to look her in the eye. "You said that the members of your guild made everything here. Does that mean you made these NPCs as well?" He looked at the other two as he threw his thumb at Albedo.
Herohero nodded. "That's right. Each of us made a floor guardian or functioning NPC that supervises the facilities." He then pointed at the banners that lined the chamber and named them. "Mine, Momonga's, Touch Me, Shizyuutensuzaku, Peroroncino, Ankoro Mocchi Mochi, Bukubukuchagama, Warrior Takemikazuchi, Variable Talisman, Genjiro."
Danny felt that his head was spinning by the names. 'Touch me? I don't even want to know.'
Momonga then got Herohero's attention. "Well, we arrived here. What was it you wanted us here for?"
Herohero looked to Momonga and brought up the idea he had. "Well, with how things are about to come to an end, I thought that maybe we should give Danny here ownership of the tomb of Nazarick."
Momonga let out a shout at that. "WHAT?! YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY OUR HOME TO SOME RANDOM STRANGERS THAT ONLY GOT LUCKY AND GOT HERE WITHOUT ANY REAL EFFORT!?"
Danny yelped as he moved to stand behind Albedo and hide behind her. 'Glad she is an NPC and won't make fun of me for hiding behind her.'
Herohero shook his head at Momonga's reaction. "Momonga, I know that we put a lot of work into this place but, I hate to say it, it's over." He let out a sigh as he continued. "You know that I loved this place as much as you do. And I want more than anything to keep doing things the way they were but….. It's over." He looked at the clock on his screen and saw that there were only about twenty minutes till the server shut down the game. "With the amount of time we have left, there isn't anything else we could do. We could sit here and just wait, or you could do one last act as the founding member of the guild. In essence, the last thing we could do with it."
Momonga was still not convinced. "But we put our virtual blood and sweat into this! How could you turn your back on it." Momonga thought about what he said and the points that Herohero brought up. '...he's right.'
Herohero looked at the hiding Danny before looking back at Momonga. "Many players thought this dungeon to be the ultimate challenge. A prize that they had to die for. And here at the end, a player finally made it. With things coming to an end, why not gift him the ultimate prize? Pass on what we made to someone that could potentially deserve it."
Momonga placed a hand over his face as he didn't want to let it go. Part of him thought it was like throwing away what they had made for nothing. But the other part…
"Think of it as a way to say goodbye to it. To actually let it go."
Momonga slumped as he still didn't feel like doing that.
Danny moved from behind Albedo and spoke up. "Um, you guys don't have to give me anything, really. And giving me this place for no reason other than just making it inside? Isn't that a bit too-"
"No, he's right."
Danny looked at Momonga in shock.
Momonga gestured for Danny to come closer to him. He saw that Danny was nervous about it but he chose to close the distance himself. "I don't want to, but there are a lot of things that we do that we don't want. And he is right. This could be the last thing I do for the guild and the Tomb of Nazarik." looking at the staff in his hand, he lifted it up and brought up a screen that had the settings of the tomb itself. He activated it, causing the screen to gain a red tint. 'Am I really going to do this? Am I willing to give it up?' His gaze went to the guy in front of him before it went to the clock. 'I don't want to but if I am going to do it, I might do it now.' He pressed a spot on the screen and spoke to Danny. "Please state your name."
Danny had no idea what was going on and wasn't sure how he was supposed to deny this. He didn't want to be given it but these two, or at least Herohero, were adamant about this. Going along with it and figuring he could just give it back later, he went along with it. "D-Danny Fenton." He clamped his hands over his mouth as he still didn't want to use his real name, but his nerves caused him to say it.
Momonga saw the name appear on the line he selected and brought his hand up to press "enter". He paused for a second before in a jolt action, pressed it, finalizing the action. Once that was done, the screen disappeared and he looked at Danny. Choosing to at least go out in honor, he spoke in a firm voice. "With this, my final act as the Guild master of the Tomb of Nazarik is to pass on what we have built and everything that comes with the title over to Danny Fenton." He held out the Staff for Danny to take and wanted him to take it fast before he pulled back to keep it.
Danny nervously rubbed the back of his neck at this whole ceremony type of thing and slowly brought his hand up to take the staff. It was taller than him but he chose to float in order to not bang it on the ground. He nervously chuckled as he looked at the other two. "Um… thanks?"
Herohero chuckled at that. "With that, we can finally say goodbye to the game."
Momonga nodded. "I guess so."
Danny looked at the staff in his hands. "Pretty interesting design." Not fully understanding the importance of the item, he gained an idea and looked to the other two. "Hey, um….. Mind if I try something with this staff?"
Herohero gestured to him. "Go ahead, but you better hurry." He looked at the clock and saw that there were only two minutes left. "Not much time left."
Danny wondered why they kept saying there wasn't much time left but he figured that they must be referring to when they had to exit the game and do something else. Gripping the staff in both hands, he focused his energy into his hands and smirked. A ring of white light appeared around his body before it split into two and moved in separate directions.
The staff changed color from gold to pitch black with the snakeheads turning white, leaving the gems the color they were.
The second it was over, a faint wave went throughout the whole area and seemed to seep into the tomb itself.
The world itself glitched for a split second but it went unnoticed by the players.
Momonga and Herohero looked at the staff in shock, with the former asking. "What did you do?"
Danny scratched his head as he gave a nervous chuckle. "It's a….another skill I have. It changes whatever I have equipped to look better with what I am wearing. Usually black and white with some green."
Herohero shook his head to get out of his shock. "Heh heh, you've shown us stuff that we have never seen throughout the whole time we have been here. I wanna thank you for that parting gift."
11:59:30
Herohero sighed as this was it. "Well, Momonga, it has been a pleasure playing with you all this time."
11:59:36
Momonga nodded. "It was a blast."
11:59:45
Herohero waved to Danny. "If they ever make a sequel, I hope we meet up and you become part of our guild."
Momonga nodded. "Yeah, I hope we meet again."
11:59:50
Herohero looked at Momonga. "Hey, you know about the cafe on the corner of…"
Danny watched as Herohero spoke about some cafe they could meet at and wondered why this seemed like a final goodbye.
11:59:55
The two guild members looked at Danny and waved. "Hope to see you in the sequel, Danny."
Danny couldn't help but shout. "Please don't use my real name."
Momonga laughed. "Back at ya."
11:59:59
Suddenly the two disappeared and a small pulse was sent out and knocked Danny onto the ground. Danny wasn't sure but something about that pulse made him feel weird and he suddenly felt lighter.
"Lord Danny, are you alright?"
Danny looked up to see Albedo giving him a look of concern. "Uh, yeah, I'm fine." Seeing her stretch out a hand, he took it and stood back up. Once on his feet, he rubbed his head and wondered what that pulse was. It was as he did this that he noticed that he was no longer wearing the armor. He looked down at himself to see that the armor was gone and he was now back in his Hazmat suit. "Where did my -*gasp*" He was interrupted as his ghost sense went off and he tensed up. "Is Technus here?!"
"Lord Danny?"
He turned to look at Albedo and saw that the others were now looking at him with something of concern. This caught him by surprise since just moments ago, they were emotionless and didn't respond to anything they did, now, they were saying his name and moving like normal people. He had to toss that thought aside as he remembered that his ghost sense went off. He spun around in order to find whoever it was that caused it but after a minute, there was no sign of them. Thinking of what it might mean, he figured that the best thing he could do was to find the ghost. Letting the staff go, which floated in the air, he flew upwards so he could phase through the walls and out of the tomb since the ghost might be just outside.
"Lord Danny, wait!"
The characters left behind grew serious as they moved toward the exit of the Chamber and make their way out.
Dany phased through the ceiling, floor after floor while keeping an eye out for any ghost that caused his sense to go off. He was sure it must be Technus as he was the only ghost that he knew that would be able to enter a video game like this. He finally came out of the Tomb but his flight halted when he saw the sky. The sky wasn't the gloomy purple that he had seen when he first entered the dungeon.
It was green.
A familiar green.
"But…..that doesn't make any sense!"
He looked back down and lowered himself to the entrance of the tomb but kept his gaze upward. "What the hell?!" He didn't know how long he stood there but he was shocked out of his confusion.
"Lord Danny, are you alright?"
Danny flinched at the sudden question and turned to see Albedo and the maids running toward him. His mind couldn't grasp what he was seeing and looked back up at the sky. "Why? Why are we here?"
The Tomb of Nazarick was floating on a massive rock in the middle of a green swirling expanse.
"How the hell did all this get to the ghost zone!"
End of chapter
(1) Apparently, this is an actual thing. I did not know that all these shops were in the Tomb of Nazarick till I looked up what was inside it.
(2) I don't know if they were actually talking or if they were using chat but with how the anime did their talks I went with it being voice chat.
While Danny was playing the game, I added the aspect of losing track of time. Don't tell me that you have ever played a game and never lost track of time.
One interesting thing I found out was that Albedo is only 5'7. Danny is 5'5 and Momonga is 7 feet.
Please note, that this isn't Ainz Ooal Gown, this is the player Momonga. Difference between the character and the player so he wasn't going to act like the tyrant he became from the anime.
Thinking of giving Danny new powers thanks to this new development.
There will be Character changes but hopefully not too drastic, just so you are warned
I'm not sure where I am going with this fic but hope you enjoy what I come up with and what comes later on.
I am sure there are errors in this chapter (what with the damn length) I will come back and fix them as I reread the chapter myself.
Flames will be ignored.
