At exactly 1800 there was a knock on the door. Jack opened an let Teal'c and Daniel with their hands full of pizza in.
"Hey guys, come on in. Sam's in the living room."
"Hey Sam! " Daniel greeted her.
"Major Carter, it is pleasent to see you." Teal'c stated.
"Hey Daniel, hey Teal'c. Good to see you two."
On his way downstairs Jack grabbed a beer for Daniel an himself, an orange juice got Teal'c and a water for Sam.
Daniel put the pizza box onto the coffeetable and opened them to see which one belongs tho whom.
"Ah, double cheese - this is yours, Teal'c. Pepperoni for Jack, and ham with mushrooms for you, Sam," Daniel declared, handing her the pizza.
Unfortunately, the scent of the hot mushrooms proved to be too much for Sam's stomach, causing her to sprint towards the nearby restroom feeling nauseous.
Jack let out a quiet sigh before murmuring, "I'll be right back," as he followed Sam towards the bathroom.
Daniel and Teal'c shared a concerned look.
"Sam, you're allright?"
Jack heard the toilet flush and took Sam in his arms as she opened the door.
He smiled, "I think we owe them their explanation now."
"I wasn't trying to avoid it." Sam giggled.
"Ok, come on."
Daniel and Teal'c had taken their seats, and as they awaited Jack and Sam's return, they noticed the unexpected entwining of their hands as they walked into the living room. This unusual sight piqued Daniel's curiosity, and he finally decided to confront them. "Okay, guys, what's going on here?" He demanded, unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
"It's what we were going to tell you before you held the pizza under my nose.. So,..ehm.." Sam was lost for words and Jack got impatient so he just spit out: "Sam's pregnant! We're going to have a baby!"
Silence.
The news was greeted by stunned silence, and it was Daniel who managed to find his voice first.
"What???," he exclaimed, unable to believe what he had just heard.
"Jack," Sam shoutet, "we were trying to break the news to them carefully."
"You lost your voice, you weren't going to tell them anything. Why not just spit it out, short and painless?!"
Sam rolled her eyes while they sat across from their teammates.
"So this is true? No joke?" Daniel asked again.
"No joke Daniel" Sam replied.
"I think congratulations are appropriate. I whish you well Major Carter, O'Neill!" It was Teal'c who warmly congratulated them.
"Thank you T!" Jack smiled.
"Care to share this story with us?" Daniel asked.
"That's why you two are here. Because this will affect all of us. But we hope you can understand and will be happy for us." Sam said. "Effective immediately I will take over the scientific department on base and report directly to General Vidrine. So Jack will no longer be my commanding officer, what allows us to foster a personal relationship. SG-1 is going to get a fourth member so you can still travel through the gate."
Daniel's mouth still open "Oh wow, you have me stunned. Congratulations you two. I'm really happy for you! It's about damn time."
Sam and Jack both exhaled a deep breath, a sense of relief washing over them, as they finally let go of the tension they hadn't even been aware of holding.
"Now that we know the result of all of this, I'm really interested in the 'how?'"
Realizing what he just said Daniel had to lough out loud.
"Sorry, that came out wrong. What I'm trying to ask is, now you're able to be together but surely you weren't when Sam conceived."
"No we weren't" Sam confirmed "but we were under alien influence. Remember the ice planet? Our minds were stamped. Our memories erased, but not our feelings. We had those feelings and didn't know that there was anything wrong about ist, so that's when it happened."
Daniel's smile grew wider "Than this is a lucky coincidence I would say. And what are you going to do now?"
"Thanks Dannyboy. This is all we got so far. We haven't discussed anything else yet. Just that we're really happy and looking forward to having your little one.We don't know where we'll live or anything, we hadn't time to discuss something because we wanted you to be the first ones to know and we will go from here and figure things out."
"We really appreciate it and if there is anything we can be of assistance, please let us know."
"Thank you T, that we will do. And now that the cat's out of the bag, what movie did you bring?"
"As it was a long time ago since we have seen Star Wars I brought the entire collection to start again with."
Sam snuggled deeper into Jack's embrace on the couch.
"That's great Teal'c, put the first one on."
Noticing that Sam isn't touching her Pizza Daniel asked "Should I have brought something else for you, Sam?"
"No, it's ok Daniel. I still haven't figured out what I can eat and what to avoid. Lovely morning sickness... Funny that you call it that when it can happen at any time of the day. I'll nibble some of the edge of the pizza. Don't bother."
They slowly felt into their team night routine again. Eating, drinking, watching movies and talking until Sam fell asleep on Jack.
"O'Neill, we will head back to the mountain, Daniel Jackson and I have an early start in the morning. We can let us out ourselves. Have a good night."
"You too. And thank you so much for your understanding. You're our family and we want you all to be happy."
"That we are, Jack! Just one thing, can we be present when youre going to tell Jacob?"
Daniel silently laughed at seeing how pale Jack suddenly had become.
As Daniel and Teal'c drove back to base Jack lay awake for some time, trying to figuring out how to break the news to Jacob. The man, whom he promised to take care of his daughter.
Knowing this wasn't the way that promise was meant to be.
The week passes quickly and on Monday Sam found herself at her first meeting with her new team.
"Good morning everyone. I think you must have heard by now that I'm now responsible for the science department. I'm really looking forward to working with you guys. Please feel free to ask everything you want to know. We used to work together occasionally and had always lots of fun, this shouldn't change just because I'm Head of Science now."
Her team smiled, they all admired her work and behavior and were eagerly looking forward to having her here permanently.
"Major, can I ask you what made you give up your position on a front line team to work in a lab everyday? I thought you were quite fond of going out in the field and exploring." a scientist asked her.
Sam smiled, a honest smile: "Sure you can ask Ben, I think I owe you the truth as you're going to hear the news anyway soon. I'm pregnant! And because of this I wouldn't be allowed to go on missions even if I wanted to."
"Oh wow, congratulations Major Carter, we weren't aware you were seeing someone. This is great news."
"And to stop all the rumors I'm going to tell you all of it..."
In the last week she and Jack were discussing how to handle their situation and what to tell whom. They came to the conclusion that it's best to stick with the truth. General Hammond and the president himself were ok with their relationship, so why conceal it.
"...I think you all heard about SG-1s mission where we got our minds stamped, we didn't know who we were. But it accidentally let Colonel O'Neill and me to pursue a personal relationship. We were ready to ignore it when we came back, but that apparently didn't work out."
Sam laughed and glanced up to her team, only to look in their smiling faces.
"It's about damn time, if it's ok to say this ma'am. We're very happy for you. And if you need something, please don't hasitate to ask."
"Thank you all! I'll really enjoy working with you. So let's get startet. I'll be in my lab if you need me."
All the scientist headed of to their projects. Only Siler stopped by Sam's side to talk to her. Through years of working together - not only at the SGC, but also occasionally on their motorcycles - they had become close friends.
He gave her a hug and whisperd: "Congratulations Sam, that are really good news. I'm glad it worked out for you two! And if you ever feel you need a break in your work or looking for some help you know where to find me."
Sam's face lit up with a broad smile as she felt grateful for the true friendship she had found in Siler.
"Thank you Dan, I appreciate that and will let you know when I need something. "
She went to her lab to start her work, she was actually looking forward to working on the many projects an items she never had the time to work on during her position on SG-1.
In the afternoon Jack found her in her lab knee-deep in work.
"Hey there" Jacks voice startled Sam as she had been so focused on her work that she didn't hear him enter. "You know you have all the time in the world, right? You don't have to figure everything out in one day!"
She looked up from her table, smiling at him.
"Are you hungry? I was on my way to the cafeteria to grab a bite. Wanna come with me? Or better, let's go home and eat there."
"You know that sounds great, I'm starving. Hopefully it will stay inside, I still haven't found something to eat what your child is willing to let me keep."
Jack leaned down to kiss her on her hair, placing his arm around her shoulder he led her to the door, while Sam was hooking her fingers into his waistband.
"What the hell? Will you guys care to explain to me what's going on here? What is it I just witnessed?"
They stopped dead in their tracks and only one word came out of both their mouth simultaneously: "DAD!"
