The next weekend they managed to bring over all of Sam's stuff she wanted to keep and by the day Jacob returned from his trip she had moved in with Jack completely.
The evening before Jacob had to go back to join the Tok'ra he sat down beside his daughter.
"You should call your brother, you know. He was very surprised as I mentioned the change in your life."
"This I can well imagine. I will call him I promise, Dad. What do you think, how long will it take for you to come back. Any chance that I'll see you a bit more regularly around?"
"I'm not sure Sam, I do hope so. I really don't want to miss you growing that little life within you." As he looked at his daughter's still flat belly, placing a hand where his grandchild was safe. He couldn't believe how time had flown by. It seemed like just yesterday she was a little girl that they brought home frome the hospital, and now she was going to be a mother herself. His heart swelled with pride and joy.
"I always loved watching your mother carrying you and your brother. She was so beautiful with her big, round belly. And you do look a lot like her these days. I would love to see you this pregnant. And I promise I will try everything to be here more often."
A bit overwhelmed by her father's words she had to fight back the tears. Thinking about her mother always hurts a little, but especially now. She would have loved to talk about the pregnancy with her mother.
To ask her all the questions a girl would ask her mother during pregnancy. Getting advices and just to share some special moments.
This was a very emotional topic for her and with her hormones messing around right now she couldn't prevent the tears from falling.
"I'm so sorry, Sam." her father said, also tears glistening in his eyes "if it wasn't for me she would still be around to enjoy this with you."
"Oh no Dad, don't say this. It wasn't your fault. I stopped blaming you for this a long time ago. It was a horrible accident and that's all it was. Do you hear me? Not. Your. Fault." she answered hugging him tightly. "Yes I would love to share this all with Mom, but I've got you and Jack and Daniel, Teal'c, Janet and Cassie to share it with. Your all my family and that's all I need." she kissed him on his cheeks, telling him she's ok the way it is.
By the time Jack got home she had fallen asleep on her father's shoulders.
Jack kneeled next to Jacob, whispering to make sure not to wake up Sam.
"Hey."
"Hi Jack."
"Just let me quickly carry her to bed. Why don't you open up two beers for us and we'll meet outside. It's such a nice evening."
"Ok, you need anything to eat? I could make you something."
"No thank you, Dad. I've eaten at the mess hall."
He stood up, putting his left arm under her knees, his right arm around her back and lifts her up. Before heading off to the bedroom, he noticed the sly grin on Jacob's face and shot him a quizzical look, silently asking what was causing his amusement.
"Enjoy it while you can do it. In a few month you will not lift her up as easy as it is now."
Only thinking about it made Jacks heart filled with joy.
When he puts her down on their bed Sam stirred and opened up her eyes a little, murmuring a soft hello.
"Hi, just keep on sleeping, your tired and need the sleep. I'll just drink a beer with your Dad, chatting a little before he has to leave tomorrow and then I'll join you."
He leaned in towards her, a soft smile gracing his features as he gently brushed his lips against hers. It was a tender gesture, filled with love and affection. As she settled into the blankets, he carefully tucked them in around her, ensuring that she was warm and comfortable.
Looking down at her, he felt a sense of gratitude and contentment wash over him. There was something undeniably special about being close to her. And as he leaned in to give her one more gentle kiss, he knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be.
Outside he found Jacob sitting on the bench at the end of the garden, staring up at the stars.
"Looking forward to being up there again?"
"For the first time I'm not. I'm afraid I will miss so much of Sam growing my grandchild."
"I will keep them safe, I promise."
"I know you will Jack, of that I have no doubt. I'm glad she's got you."
They smiled at each other and drank their beer in silence.
Next morning Jack awoke by the flush of the toilett. 0530 in the morning, as every morning since Sam experiences morning sickness. He took the cup of water from his nightstand and headed towards the bathroom.
Carefully opening the door he saw her sitting in front of the toilett, her back leaning at the bathtub and she hat let her head fall back, eyes closed.
He thought she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
"Good morning." he approached her, handing her the water.
"Morning, and thank you."
"How are you?"
"I'm getting used to it, but really looking forward to when it will stop."
Sliding next to her his knees protested a little, but for her he would ignore his knees at every time.
She laid her head on his shoulders and suddenly remembered their time under the ice. How they used to sit like that. It felt great.
"So, coming back to bed or what?"
"Yeah, let's try to sleep for another hour and then we'll have to go to see Dad off."
As he stood up, he reached out his hand to her. With a gentle smile, he offered her his hand, ready to help her up and support her back to bed.
Their fingers intertwined and with his strong grip, he helped her to her feet, his eyes locked onto hers in a silent message of love and support.
Curled up in bed, he slipped behind her, holding her close with an arm draped over her, his hand gently cradling her head.
With his other hand, he gently rested it on her stomach, feeling the gentle rise and fall as she breathed.
