Meanwhile at the Fraiser household, Janet was called in because of an emergency. Daniel and Cassie sat on the couch and were reading as Daniel closed his book and looked at her.

"Cassie, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, what do you want?"

"I would like to know what you think of if I would ask your mother to marry me?"

"Honestly, that was what I expected the last time you two told me you had news. I wasn't expecting the baby thing, but I'm happy with both. Go ahead and ask her, for sure she'll say yes."

He let out the breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Daniel?"

"Yes Cassie?"

"When you marry Mom and the baby is born will they have your last name?"

"Probably, I'm not sure your mother will take it or will have a double name. Why?"

"Just thinking, then I will be the only one who is named Fraiser." she let her statement linger for a while.

"Cassandra are you asking me if I want to adopt you?"

Looking him straight in the eyes.

"Sort of. I'm not sure if that is something you would want, so it's just a thought."

"Sweetie, I would like nothing more than for you to become legally my daughter. I would be honored. So lets make sure your Mom accept my proposal and then we'll make you my daughter."

With tears in her eyes she scooted closer to him "Thank you Dad!"

A few weeks later Sam had a day off as she reduced her working hours a bit. She went to the mall and started to buy some baby stuff like clothing, bedding, a few books to prepare for the birth and what comes after that as she exited the baby store and collided with a woman passing by.

"Sorry!"

"I'm sorry..." both women started to apologize.

"Sam?"

"Oh Sara, hi, sorry I didn't see you."

Sara took a look at the shop Sam came from. "So, your preparing for the baby to arrive?" she asked friendly.

"Yeah, just a few things. I know it's maybe still a bit early, but I like to be ready and prepared. This must be the scientist in me." Sam smirked.

"Not just the scientist Sam, that what mother's do. I don't know if you think it's a bit weird, but I was wondering since I know your pregnant. I've still got a few things from Charlie as he was a baby and then a toddler. I was keeping it for sentimental reasons but I'll never get to use it anymore and I wanted to ask if you would want to have those things. It would be a nice thought that his halfbrother or -sister would use it. It's just a few clothing, books, stuffed animals and I think there might me a trycile. I can clearly understand if you don't want it... "

"Sara, I would be honored! If Jack will let me we will tell him or her everything about it's big brother."

"Thank you Sam, thank you for don't let him be forgotten." Sam gave her a reassuring smile and squeezed her hand.

"I have all the stuff packed at home because I had to pack when I moved in with Tom, I can bring them around whenever you like. In fact I'm free for the day if you're home later I can drop it off."

"I was about to head home, feel free to come around. I moved in with Jack so I think you know the address?"

"Yes I do. So, see you later?"

"See you later Sara."

On her drive home Sam's thoughts went to Jack. Would he want Charlie's old stuff around? Would he want their child to wear his clothes and would he want to read the books he read Charlie? But Sam came to the conclusion that as hard as it might me it's a perfect way to remember him, and that what good for Jack even if he doesn't see it that way yet.

Not long after Sam arrived home Sara parked the car in their driveway. She took a moment to record the view.

Sam opened the door for Sara who was carrying a big box what seems to be heavy.

"Hey, where should I put these?"

"You can put them in the nursery, next door on the right or just put it here if it's to heavy."

"No it's ok, I put it in the nursery, there is more to come."

"Thanks, do you need help?"

"No Sam you shouldn't carry this heavy anyway, I'm fine." Sara said as she entered the baby's room. "Wow that's nice. Oh I think I have just the right thing in this box." she opened the box and rummaged for a second bevor pulling out a little dinosaur in excat the same green like the walls. As Sam saw this her eyes filled with water. "That's perfect."

Sara placed it in the cot, it fitted perfectly in the scene of the room. It was an emotional moment for both women which only connected them even more.

Sara brought three more boxes, a tricycle and Charlie's old baseball bat and glove.

"I'm not sure how to thank you for this Sara."

"You thank me for it when you put it at good use."

"That I will do. You want to have a drink with me in the backyard? Or is this to weird for you."

"Actually I would love to, I doesn't feel weird at all to me. Is this crazy?"

"Maybe, but I'm used to crazy, so let's go outside."

Sam grabbed a bottle of water and two glasses.

As Sam settled down onto the chair, a sharp intake of breath escaped her lips, followed by an audible "ouch". Concern instantly flooded Sara's expression as she asked, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing," replied Sam, trying to alleviate Sara's worries. "The baby is just really active today and keeps kicking my ribs."

"I remember it well," she said with a smile. "Charlie's foot was often so low in my pelvis that I couldn't even sit comfortably or sit at all."

"It's nice to be able to talk to someone who has experienced it before," Sam said.

"Have none of your friends had children yet?" asked Sara, surprised.

"To be honest, I don't have many female friends. Most of them are men, and I work with almost all of them. We don't have a lot of free time in our job," replied Sam.

"I see, feel free to ask if you want to know something. I know Jack might remember the most of it but sometimes it's a bit awkward to discuss this with men, even if it's your husband. Sorry, your partner I wanted to say."

Sam blushed "Actually it's fiancé now. And thank you for the offer."

"Congratulations, I knew he would ask sooner rather than later. I haven't seen this sparkle in his eyes for a long time. Only when he talked about you. When is the big day?"

"Hopefully before the baby is born, but we're not sure yet. I still have two month to go and we don't want a big wedding. Just ja few friends in our backyard. I think we'll manage that. Where did you meet your husband?"

"We met in a grief group. He had lost his wife early and was raising their daughter alone, while I joined the group some time after Charlie's death. He has a great daughter, we connected instantly. It's my opportunity to be a parent again and I appreciate it every day."

"That's lovely, I'm very happy for you Sara."

"Speaking of the daughter I'm supposed to pick up in ten minutes, oh boy I'm going to be late. I have to go Sam, but it was a nice afternoon. We should do that again, here's my phone number," she said handing Sam her business card "Call me if you need someone to talk to or just want to go for a coffee."

They hugged each other and Sam waved goodbye to her as she drove away.

As Jack arrived home, the sun was just setting. He walked up the steps to the front door and noticed a small red tricycle on the front terrace that seemed familiar to him for some reason.

He walked into the house in search of Sam, knowing that she had the day off today and was probably bored all day. Because, to be honest, Samantha Carter without her work was like the Earth without gravity.

He found her sitting in the rocking chair in the nursery, with her eyes closed and gently stroking her belly as she swayed back and forth. He thought she looked beautiful and wanted to just soak in the moment. Suddenly, his eyes fell upon the dinosaur in the baby crib next to Sam, which also seemed familiar to him.

And then he saw the baseball bat and glove on the dresser, unmistakably Charlie's. In front of them were three boxes labeled 'baby stuff'.

Suddenly, Sam felt his presence and opened her eyes. "Hi," she greeted him.

"Hi," He turned towards her "Sam what's all this?" he asked, gesturing around the room.

She got up from the rocking chair and walked towards him, visibly nervous because she knew he recognized Charlie's belongings.

"I ran into Sara at the mall today. She had been thinking about it for a while, and she wanted us to have Charlie's belongings for his brother or sister. I think it's a wonderful idea and hope you agree," she said.

Jack's heart swelled with emotion as he hugged Sam tightly. Tears streaming down his face.

"I love it. It's such a big gesture of her, I haven't thought about his things at all. I didn't know she kept them." suddenly he felt silent for a moment. "Are you sure you're ok with that, Sam? I mean, this is very emotional stuff for me and it shouldn't be your concern."

"Oh Jack, I'm so thankful that this baby gets to have all this stuff from its big brother. It's a connection for them and for us a great opportunity to remember your son every day in a good way."

"You have no idea what this means to me." He said while kissing her deeply in the middle of the nursery.

"So you bumped into her in the mall and she brought the things here?"

"In fact we had a great afternoon together, I hope that's okay for you. We sat in the backyard and chattet for a while. It was nice to be able to talk to someone who has been pregnant. I don't have much opportunities for this. Do you mind?"

"No, I don't think so. Although it is a bit weird you can choose your friends on your own and if it happens to be my ex wife, so be it. She's a great person, I should know that. And if you two don't have a problem with this than it shouldn't bother me at all." She looked satisfied and happy that Jack accepted her friendship with his ex-wife.

"Now let's go to bed, it's been a long day."

"Yeah what took you so long? I thought you would be here earlier."

"If you're looking for someone to blame, then complain to your Dad. He came by to tell us more about the ruins but couldn't stay long. He sends his love and hugs for you. However, he's coming back in three weeks and will be able to stay for a while. I thought maybe three weeks is long enough to plan our wedding. What do you think?" he said with a smile.

"I think we have some planning to do. I should talk to my brother tomorrow. Maybe he and his family can manage to be there."

"I love you Samantha Carter - soon to be O'Neill."

"I love you Jonathan O'Neill. So when I'm Mrs. O'Neill you'll stop calling me Carter?"

"No way, as much as I love for you to be Mrs. O'Neill, you'll always be Carter to me." he said and smiled into the next kiss.
