"Everyone has a dark side, if they want to consider themselves a whole."
His eyes orbited around the brooch that hung elegantly among Violet's clothes and she, noticing its sight, with an impressive distrust covered it far away, because it was hers, because that was her most precious memory, that was her best kept secret.
Dietfried received her at the door with the housekeeper, a sea of sensations that we will call memories flooded Violet's mind, her eyes filled with tears, it was the first time she knew what pain was, but a non-physical pain, she felt as if all her bones were broken inside, but she could continue walking falsely, as if she were walking on eggshells.
wounds that even though they don't bleed they hurt, wounds that are much harder to heal than a physical one. she could hear him calling her name in those corridors. as the captain guided her to her new room. that from that night on would be her new designated home.
the door creaked open, she entered the room, and at the window she could see him smiling, she ran and just before she could call out his name, she realized that it was not who she thought it was, but someone who looked like him, it was the captain who was greeting her.
Dietfried could feel from the moment he had entered the house that she had frozen, completely paralyzed, it was the first time he had seen her like that, so carefully watching her reactions.
And clearly he himself felt that something in himself she had moved, as if he had found the key to her immovable heart and thrown coldly and cruelly into the world of sensations and feelings he had tried to hide for too long.
"And just like the moon, he had shadows, a place where not even the stars shine. he was so cold that not even the sun could melt him."
violet wiped her eyes with her hands, returning to reality, reality where there was only one Bouganvillea, one who clearly before her and though today there was kindness and welcome, for her it was only the obligation to the word and wishes of the Major.
"You must be tired, we'll let you settle in, rest for a moment" Dietfried crossed the room as he left, violet couldn't help but confuse them, inevitably they were twin brothers and although Dietfried had chosen the navy and always dressed smartly in white and long black boots, and although he had grown his hair long, his eyes, his voice were remarkably the same as the Major.
And she compared them, her human mind and heart thundering with every glance and sound of voice, it was impossible for her not to believe that death had taken the Major from her.
the door closed, leaving behind a bitter taste, violet sat down on the bed, opened her luggage, it was the first time she had such a large room, with a closet, a dresser and a mirror.
She placed her typewriter on the desk in front of the window overlooking the bouganvillea's huge garden.
she was exchanging the hospital and the military life for a home.
