"Time is the thief of memories".
in every corner of every room, in every corridor and in every window of that place, she found the memories of the Major throbbing and painful, reminding her that life had decided to erase him from the world.
she was suffocating in that room, in that house, she felt she had to get out of there or she would go crazy, she ran through the corridors looking for the exit until she escaped to the huge bouganvillea garden, entering the most beautiful labyrinths of the village with a heavy heart.
at the end of the endless garden, she found a tombstone with the name Gilbert bouganvillea engraved on it, she could not cry, the tears would not come out, she fell on her knees holding the brooch in her hands.
She felt on his shoulders the warm embrace of the coat, dietfried tucked her in and holding her by the shoulders helped her to stand up, but he said nothing, he took her again through that huge garden but turned in another direction, the sun was about to set through the mountains, and the show was beginning.
"All of them have your name for him" Gilbert had sent to plant a garden with the flowers of the name he had given her and Dietfried had taken his first step towards an unknown goodness.
violet looked up at the field of violets and the last rays of sunlight bathed the place, turning her countenance into a smile, she looked back down at her treasured brooch and looked up at Dietfried.
"She wasn't ready yet, but she was brave, and the universe listens to those who are brave.
even if their eyes were exactly the same color, even if their faces and features were alike, she could tell the differences, but living in that place where the Major's life once made its way, it was too much for her.
But Dietfried thought it was the best way to deal with the loss, almost like facing your fears every day and constantly like a bloody nightmare.
it wasn't easy to see his face in every place, to feel that at any moment through that door he would walk in again, like a resurrection.
Dietfried walked with her, while the sky became dark and tinged with red, still holding her by the shoulders, violet felt the warmth of the captain's body, his hands were bigger and he was also taller, the perfume he gave off from his long hair taken in a sloppy braid was peculiar and unique, impossible to forget.
she looked up analyzing every faction of that face, the one she had seen too many times, but today that countenance was distinctive, the war had not passed in vain, his look was not another one she could not recognize or have seen before. it was the face of a warrior, one that did not know humanity. she had trapped it and pulled it out to keep it in a corner where no one could ever find it.
by the time she realized it, Dietfried's eyes were fixed on hers, wide open. the universe was hidden in their gaze and it was as if all her thoughts were being laid bare before her eyes.
The wind blew warmly lifting the coat that Dietfried had used to cover her but he prevented it from flying, their eyes were still fixed and their faces were too close, so close that violet for an instant forgot the hatred that the captain had for her, his hands caressed her face "you are a good boy" and the captain's countenance changed completely, his pupils dilated and with a jolt he escaped from her.
"There is nothing more terrifying than finding yourself."
