Chapter 5: Training for strength
When Kami died, the lookout was abandoned for years and had fallen to ruin. Gohan, an older and far less powerful version of himself, pushed past the broken gates and gazed up to the desolate landmark. He was aware of the fact that his power had diminished when his mentor had passed, and he wanted to restore it to its former glory.
Gohan smiled somberly as he steadied himself with his crutches, knowing it was the only thing linking him to his former strength. He was still disabled from the injuries he had sustained during battle, but he was determined to not let that stop , he saw his best friend, Trunks, standing behind him with a solemn expression on his face. Gohan could almost sense the sadness and sorrow that was emanating off him as they shared a look.
'Hey Trunks,' Gohan said. 'We're going to head to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and start training. Are you up for it?'
Trunks nodded slowly, his gaze still trained on the lookout.
'Yes, I'll do my best to make sure you become as strong as you used to be,' he replied with determination in his voice.
Gohan gave him a brief smile of gratitude before making his way to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. As they entered, Trunks was taken aback by the bleached white walls and eerie quietness that filled the air. He had heard tales of the chamber but never expected it to look this bad.
Gohan noticed his expression and tried to ease his worries.
'It may not look like much now,' he said. 'But you should know that for every day in the real world, a year passes in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. It's how I plan to restore my strength and why we are here.'
Intrigued, Trunks asked how that was possible.
'Simple,' Gohan replied. 'In the Hyperbolic Time Chamber our bodies are constantly exposed to intense physical and mental training, so the immense amount of time we spend here allows us to upgrade and strengthen our current level of power.'
'I understand,' Trunks said, before hesitantly asking, 'What about Super Saiyan?'
Gohan smiled, remembering the power he had wielded before his injuries.
'That's why we're going to put in extra effort to achieve it,' he said. 'First, we will need to control our Ki and then, over time, our power and speed will increase exponentially. Are you ready to begin?'
Trunks gave a determined nod and the two began to train.
