"You yourself made him understand that he needed someone else."
Her eyes that had traveled the world as feet the earth had witnessed fortunes and misfortunes, justice and injustice. each new thought was a new challenge that Violet's heart experienced and each job, each letter, each letter written for others began to shape in her sensations that Claudia and those around her realized made her more and more human.
Violet felt the pain of a death foretold when she was forced to write letters from a dying mother, the terrible pain of seeing a daughter suffer for the inattention of a mother, a daughter who would realize a little too late the great love of her mother, the helplessness of a doll like Violet not being able to do anything but put on paper the feelings of her client.
she discovered that in times of war love can also overcome everything when she wrote a letter of confession from a dying soldier to his eternal beloved one. she learned about the misfortunes of a young and mischievous love in a capricious and insecure princess.
her eyes filled with tears at the letter from her youngest client, who, stricken by illness, asked her to write a letter to his family.
love in violet's world could make you wish you were dead, who could stand such a kind of work as a little girl?
her memory would only be as fragile and small as a stamp on a letter preserved for the eternity of immense and virtuous generations.
"The eyes do not know how to keep secrets"
And indeed, with time and under Dietfried's watch, Violet's look had changed, her body had grown, she was no longer the little girl Gilbert had once abandoned in that burnt bastille.
his eyes ran over her trying to recognize her, and he felt he was losing his sanity every time he had her near and ashamed of himself he avoided his brother's watchful gaze, shame was eating at his insides and he preferred the whole world to think he was crazy and so he acted like a madman.
Breaking dishes, pulling out his IVs, spitting senselessly from his mouth. But that only brought Violet closer, and he didn't notice that yet, but Dietfried did.
when calmness left him asleep violet would sneak out and clean the tear wounds from when he removed the IVs, Dietfried through the corner of the ajar door and like a thief watched them, jealousy and fear invaded him, even when he was carrying the winning flag.
That night he decided to let things take their course, that day he promised himself not to let fear and uncertainty and damn jealousy stop him from loving violet. He closed the door gently and headed for his study, finding refuge in front of the fire and a good book.
"And eventually it all connects..."
Violet went downstairs and drawn by the thundering fire she peeked into the study and saw Dietfried stoking the fire and sitting back down, she could pay attention to the shape of his body, a body as immense as a mountain, smiling she could erase the bad memories of how they met, now she could only remember the softness of his gaze each time his eyes roamed hers like a flock of migrating birds.
as her thoughts hunted her without even realizing it, she had walked to the fireplace next to Dietrfried and her hand had been caught by that huge hand, their eyes met, there was urgency in his gaze she could feel it. her glove slipped from her hands leaving bare the metal that replaced her flesh.
Violet caressed his cheek as Dietfried slid his lips against hers, tugging her hand lightly to draw her closer.
A storm of feelings and sensations broke out inside her, Dietfried sat up and wrapped her around his waist and pulled her close to his body, Violet's cheeks were soaked with tears, Dietfried, disturbed by this, separated a little from her without releasing her from his arms, with his fingers he cleaned her cheeks from the tears, blushing she could not take her eyes off his lips and eyes, those eyes that confused him eternally.
she didn't know if it was love, but she had let herself be made on his shores as a consolation to the mourning of the loss of what she once had and had lost, and today that she was found, she didn't recognize it, today that she found she didn't understand what was happening inside her chest, when her body was only attracted to dietfried, but at the same time she was getting closer to Gilbert.
Her cold fingers lacking warmth caressed Dietfried's lips and leaning against his chest she continued to sob, while Dietfried returned to his seat and took her in his arms to accompany her in her pain, whatever it was.
"It was over, and somehow her heart found a way to keep beating."
