Logan hated hearing what he heard every night, every shift those…filth…had free. What they did to Rogue in the cell next to him had set his animal rage on edge. She tried to fight back, gave it as good as she got it for as long as she could, until they threatened Madelyne. And him. And then the poison in his system took him out of action, diminishing him with every passing hour, every day.

He was getting weaker and weaker. Logan couldn't do anything, each time he tried to, he was beaten within an inch of his life, making him even more susceptible to the poison in his blood.

The door jangled open, the two latest comrades in assault exited her cell, and Logan tried to keep the curse from his lips. Rogue wasn't crying. She was quiet. That meant she was going cataonic; he had to do something. He had to find a way to get to her, keep her sane, and keep her hope alive.

That meant he had to risk dying for her. How many times had she done so for them? For the entire team?

"Well lookee here, we're gonna hafta clean her off before we take our turn. Darden; get the hose!"

This wasn't good. He was going to have to make a move, and fast.

The sudden sound of shocked, choked off cries, sparked his attention, but he was so weak that he could hardly keep his consciousness. Was she freeing herself? A gray blanket fell over his vision and his ears. He couldn't hear a thing.

It seemed hours later - something he would forever insist on for the rest of his life - but he felt a firm hand on his shoulder, shoving him awake. "Wake up, Logan. Can't carry you outta here."

Impossible. He knew that voice. "Carol?"

"Yeah. The kid 'n decided to switch it up right now. Logan…she's…" Rogue's face, with Carol's blue eyes shifted away to look for a way to say what she needed to. "Rogue's still a kid, and what they did to her…no adult should ever consider having to go through. We're gonna fix this."

"I know." That was all he had to say, and it was hard to speak as it was. It was a good thing the two of them knew one another so well that little had to be said. They knew exactly what they were going to do without saying a thing. "Don't let her come out, if you can. She don't need to see all the details."

Carol nodded and helped him to his feet. "Old man, been skipping too many workouts?" she huffed, as they worked together to escape with as little notice as possible. They had changed into the guard uniforms, and were already leaving the wing. They'd look for Maddie, they needed to find her, whatever they did to Rogue…they could've done even worse to her.

The two, no three, comrades made their way through the heart of the regime, intent on bringing the entire country down on their way out.
